As an exchange student I learned that it's just easier to hang out with other exchange students- you're always getting put together for one thing, and for another, all of the... "locals"? Already have their friends and their routines and it's really hard to break into those groups. Even if you join a club or something, you'll likely spend most of the time in the corner.
Whenever I see an exchange student or like, new residents, I'm going to go out of my way to reach out to them cuz I get it now.

There was a kid who went to our school from France. He was in our French class for like, half of a year. His accent when he was trying to pronounce English words was so adorable that the girls (including me don't tell my fiance) would giggle and go "aw!" which made him embarrassed, which just made the girls' squealing louder.
