Thanks John, like you a lot of my work is in the paddock which is why I was interested in the flux core. I reckon Unimig should put you on contract. It looks like I'll be trading my old machine in on a 185
Just watched your videos on the 185 viper. Your spot on with power settings and wire speed. It's surprising the manufacturer is so far off the mark. For what it's worth I get a lot better weld pulling instead of pushing with flux core.
Can I use the standard .8 roller V type for flux core or do I need a different type of .8 roller.. I'm using .8 wire..Thankyou for your videos , very helpful.
Hey John I see they list that UniMig Hypermig wire as Single Pass wire . So even though it is classed as single pass wire I take it you can still do multiple passes as you did with that 10mm/12mm joint? Just I see some wires like the Michigan wire lists as multi pass and others list as single pass.
Yeah I know lots of blokes who use it all the time. I will only use it if I have to. Because of my background in manufacturing and aircraft welding I strive for the best looking strong finished job with as little clean up as possible Flux cored welds are strong and look ok but a bit more cleaning up required slag and spatter. On a farm no one would ever notice but I am just a bit fussy when it comes to welding. John
For me it depends on circumstance. Generally I don't use either in the shed If I go out in the paddock I may use either stick if its a smaller job because its easy light and portable, the mig with inershield for bigger jobs. John
sound's like a great allrounder john.i think it would be perfect for me .thank's for posting .stay safe . gary
Thanks Gary had no internet for a while. Hope things are going well. John
Im very late to this party but just wanted to say i highly appreciate this review you've done on thr 185, very extensive, thanks alot mate !
Thanks for watching and commenting. John
Thanks John for doing the gasless mug wire video. I found it helpful
Thats good glad it was helpful. John
Great review and demos throughout including beating the bejeevers out of things to test the integrity. Thanks for the efforts..
Yeah I like to know if things will break, better to find out in the shed than out in the paddock HaHa. Thank you for watching. John

My 185 is going strong never missed a beat. John
You should try to welding the vice to the table
I have it so I can turn it around. I need to be able to for some of my art projects. John

Thanks for watching. I wouldn't like to be a new welder and trying to learn with the settings recommended. John

Yes you can do more than one pass. John
I am surprised you don't use flux core much. I'd have thought its perfect for welding on farm gates or implements outside?

Why choose Flux Core over Stick?
