    IMHO _by far_ the most compelling argument to have your ACU at the front at the t1 stage: An ACU can deal up to 100 DPS (before OC). that means it can kill one ~50 mass tank every 3 seconds. That's almost 17 mass/second it can kill if it were to be used most optimally. An equivalent of denying your opponent more than eight t1 mexes! If you can keep it at the front and keep it shooting enemy tanks as much as possible, you'll be crushing a ton of enemy mass. So never let a small army run into enemy ACU and keep your ACU shooting enemy tanks as much as possible.
    You could also see it this way, it has 10-12K HP. If it takes 5000 damage, that means it has saved 15-20 t1 tanks' lives. Those tanks will live on to raid mexes and kill engineers and destabilize your opponent :D

      The early veterancy gains are huge as well. I've won a considerable number of mid-game pushes with my ACU and a small escort, with TMLs sniping, just because my ACU was so much more combat effective than my opponent's own ACU.

    For me, "playing alone forever" isn't a mistake, it's a choice I made after getting burned out by competitive RTS gaming in the Starcraft 2 days. If playing solo is a "mistake", then I don't want to be right.

      If you’re a retired competitive gamer, don’t worry about it! But it is fun to play some casual games with friends as well if you ever feel the itch again!

      NO SERIOUSLY. Playing with randoms is so damn taxing. I only watch these tutorials because FA is WAY less beginner friendly than most rts games so I gotta figure out how to not get absolutely demolished by normal AI but that's about it

      Casual Play against BOTS is the KEY ... If you want Real Players with Strange Plays go for it but you are Strong or Weak against them mostly Weak because Veterans who did 10+ Years have the OVERHAND.

    I would add one other key bit.
    INTEL.
    It doesn't matter if it's land scouts, mech marines, or just a tank.
    Park it on a flank, and give yourself an early warning system set up.
    Radar's are good, but if you are truly new to the game. You will often power-stall and get blindsided by a force you never saw.
    Land scouts early on and scattered around are invaluable.
    If you make it into late game. Don't ignore the usefulness of just quickly building a T1 air factory to just constantly build T1 spy planes to throw into your enemies base.
    They will still give quite a bit of information even upon their death. And in the late game. Real-time visual data is equally invaluable against lots of stealth.

    I just started playing this game. While almost 30 years in experience with any RTS. I have to say, this one has an unique resource system. I really love the reclaim mechanic.
    And I used it in the 4th mission on the forests. Which begs the question; "How much mass is a portion of forest worth?"
    That Ctrl + Shift will sure come in handy.

    If you're feeling overwhelmed practicing against AI, tick down the game speed. It's very helpful to give yourself time to react and plan, especially against M27/M28 AI that are actually decent opponents, and full pausing has a lot of annoying little traits that make it hard to build.

    Oh you can't even imagine how much of a problem overturtling is! I still do it, my friends done/did it, I think it's just our brain not used to the game - means facing inknown with way too many variables, and due to that it becomes extremely defensive. Playing more RTS really helps me even in normal everyday life to grow more confident so you can say games help in life as well :D

    very good advices! I think these things are, what seperates the players below and above the 1000 mark, although the longer the game goes on the more players will make these mistakes.
    Could you make a video for advanced move orders? I feel like most players don't get how many move orders there actually are and how useful they are for specific units i.E.: the attack move on the asylum

    • @kiljupullo
      @kiljupullo 11 месяцев назад +1

      Tactics. You need to use t1 and t3 scouts all time and counter enemies with recon data. Like if enemy doesnt have any air, use bombers and harass with units. If enemy has just air, push very hard on land. etc. Destoying all radar, destreoying enemy e-storage and pgens.,

    Playing campaign and vs ai can help battlefield performance dramatically, as long as you dont play it all the time. The new campaigns on faf are quite challenging.

    • @TheGreenSquier
      @TheGreenSquier  11 месяцев назад +3

      Definitely! Although, there's potential to learn some bad habits in the campaign, like turtling super hard before meeting the objective. In multiplayer, you'll give up a lot of the map control if you take the same approach. Still really helpful for learning the basics though!

  • @julianfacius310

    This game deserves a (real) successor so much! I played this game so vanilla much in the past and was only able to play vs AI, that teaches you all the wrong lessons about the game (that is, turtling with point defense and defending your commander). Even though the community has done such an amazing job keeping the game alive with FAF, outside of the community I think the few people that are willing to touch an almost 20 year old game will not search for a whole seperat & modded installement. A simple treatment as Sins 2 is for Sins of the solar Empire, that up the grafics a bit and enables multi-core processing & performance could be a great re-entrance into the rts genre and would be an instant buy for me. Kinda sad, that devs only look for the big titles and self proclaimed "Starcraft killers" and overlook easy money in such obvious places :(
    Sorry for the rant :D

    Noob mistakes: Doing any form of micro instead of making 100 tanks a second.

  • @anachronity9002

    3:51 I've always heard that using the commander on the front lines is a bad idea precisely *because* of how long it takes to walk it over there. You're far better off using its building power than using it for nothing at all as it slow-trots over to the other side of the map. Maybe that's just a Planetary Annihilation thing that doesn't hold true in FAF?

    • @TheGreenSquier
      @TheGreenSquier  4 месяца назад

      There are some cases when you would not want to walk you commander, for instance if you're on a 20x20 map and you're on the outskirts, but most of the time you'll want to walk him. Especially on smaller 1v1 maps, you'll lose if you don't use your commander as a tank and your opponent does, simply because of how much stronger he is as a tank in the beginning of the game
      I'd highly recommend watching some Gyle Casts, he's really entertaining and you can get a sense for how openings typically play out. His most recent 3v3 cast is a good example:
      ruclips.net/video/KXN0yiHCTD0/видео.html
      www.youtube.com/@GyleCast.
      You do want to build out some of your base before moving him though, I have a video on Build Orders which go over the best practices for the first 10 mins of a game:

    Hardest thing for me is Sorian AIX, tier 3 battleships by 12 mins while also spamming everything under the sun is annoying. if its just land I can hold and beat it thinking not enough free t1 Engineer on auto mass reclaim to help push economy to beat AIX Income

    Putting the commander at the front also carries a risk. My opponent once was surprise by a little army and lost his commander 10 minutes into the game.

    • @TheGreenSquier
      @TheGreenSquier  4 месяца назад

      It's definitely a risk! But a calculated one- it's virtually certain defeat if your opponent walks their commander on a small 1v1 and you don't
      I highly recommend checking out some Gyle Cast videos to get a sense of how to use the commander on the front lines, his most recent 3v3 cast is a good example:

    Slightly bothersome that point defenses are so meh purely in terms of cost. The allure of point defenses is you don't need to babysit them and they just do their own thing automatically blasting at anything that gets in range. Tanks meanwhile seem to need constant babysitting or they get turned to toast. With limited time and attention to divert to dealing with things, it's nice getting to take a breather with something. With how long matches are it's extremely exhausting to have to deal with a million and a half things at once.

    • @TheGreenSquier
      @TheGreenSquier  2 месяца назад

      Point Defense definitely have their purpose, but it’s probably better to just use tanks until you’re have some more experience and can identify when PD would be preferred.
      And yes there definitely is an art to micro’ing tanks, but when you’re first starting, you’ll probably win simply by having a better economy (and more tanks) than your opponent

    Playing against others depends on who ur playing i found this game a few months ago ive played a few games and got destroyed id prefer to try and get better then play and get smashed after 2 minutes and its hard for me to remember everything i need to do its the multitasking that i need to practice , i wonder will i be the first FAF player to get to negative 2000 points .What is it Pro and joe and for me MONGO

    • @olivierlaborde7887
      @olivierlaborde7887 Год назад +3

      The quickest way to not get destroyed immediqtely is build order. Theres some great videos on build order that helped me out of your exact situation. I lost every match I played, until I learned build order and was able to harrass the enemy into a win (like they were doing to me previously)

      Yeah that's a good point, it never feels great to get wrecked. If you want to keep playing solo for a while, look up the M27 AI on the Mods menu in FAF. It's extremely competent, roughly 800-1000 elo, so once you're able to beat that you can definitely hold your own in multiplayer

      If you have FAF try checking out "non standard games" tab, idk how its called in english. There is bunch of large 5v5 maps being hosted and some are specifically for noobs. Playing with team is always better you will get tips and observe how others play.
      There may be some salt but ignore that.
