At the off road park at Disney Oklahoma with the 2024 Tacoma TRD Off Road. Testing ground clearance and stock tire traction.
If you’re new to the channel, RCI skid plates and 1” or 2.54 cm lift in the front to recover lost ground clearance. Homemade rear differential skid plate and rock sliders installed. After the trip, don’t see any signs anything under the vehicle touched anything, so don’t know what was caught on video.
Nothing spectacular, but very dry and loose, couldn’t hardly walk without slipping. On the trail head that takes you to the trails thru the woods. Didn’t get on the trails as unexpected rain cut the trip short.
Surprised at how well the factory tires did. Can’t tell you how steep it climbed because the display only goes to 30°. In 4 low, no locker, no terrain select, and no crawl control.
Stock BFG Trail Terrain T/A tires have 4 belts in the treads that runs up into the side wall lugs. Rest of sidewall has only 2 belts which gives a lot of flex when aired down to 25 PSI. Don’t want to risk sidewall damage by going lower and wondering if more tire pressure is needed.
As usual have the winch, traction boards, and sand ladders in the bed because it’s not if, it’s when you’ll get stuck.
Need to find a 4WD group to go with as there’s many trails I’d like to do, but not alone.
I need your help on tire suggestions to improve off road capability, minimize impact on fuel economy, and have decent tread life. Don’t want to go above 33” tires and the tires need to stay within the wheel wells. Please leave a comment on what you use and fuel economy.
