- This week’s video features Petersburg Campground in Appling, Georgia. This COE campground is located on the shores of the J. Strom Thurmond Reservoir.
We love Army Corps of Engineers (COE) campgrounds. They all feature waterfront locations, and are priced super reasonable! PLUS if you have a National Park Pass, you can get your campsite for HALF PRICE! We have paid as little as $12 for a full service site, that including water, 50A electric, AND sewer!

Have you ever stayed at a COE park? Did you know there are none in Michigan?
My wife just got a couple egg rings for our new stove which has a griddle in the middle - she loves them. Loved the bonus kitty content!

We are going with a small electric griddle instead of the larger propane powered one. Still work outside using an exterior power outlet and our big lithium bank if no power pedestal.

Hi guys! Great campground! Thanks for sharing. 👏 We are headed through Georgia next year on our way to Florida so we will keep this place in mind. We have stayed at several COE’s before, but we kinda forget about them and how nice they are. Thanks for the reminder! We have to get those egg rings!! Seems like they work great! Hi Ronda & Stan! Yes, COE's are kinda forgotten. ( But maybe that's good because we can get a site! lol.) There are so many across the country, except for Michigan. Which I don't understand. The egg rings work really nicely and are fun too! It is hard to know who to trust with your hair while traveling! - Michelle

Beautiful drive. Oh that looks like a great campsite. We love COE's too! That and state parks are our go to's. I love those sites by the lake! I'm always up for a nice lake view. We were just in Georgia in April (vids yet to be released), but we stayed at state parks in the areas we wanted to explore. I'll have to keep this place in mind should we ever return.

Super cool video! We stayed at the other C.O.E. Campground on J Strom Thurmond Lake for the solar eclipse. It was called Ridge Road and looked very similar. Our site was amazing. We consider C.O.E. campgrounds to be our #1 choice. Vermont has 1 more than Michigan but it is closed for the year due to the catastrophic floods in 2023.
Thanks so much. We stayed at Ridge Road this April, and it was just as nice as Petersburg. Love COE Parks. Best deal around. It's my understanding that the Michigan DNR and the Michigan State Waterways Commission don't support dams and other structures, plus none of the rivers in Michigan are large enough for a COE project. Take care, we hope to get back to beautiful Vermont someday. - Jim

Hey guys…we enjoyed this video. That COE park was beautiful…are they big rig friendly? That’s our issue with some parks. You have even encouraged us to cook our bacon on the blackstone this morning.
Many COE parks are big rig friendly, but you really need to pay close attention when booking on recreation.gov. I'll try to remember to PM a recommendation to you for a COE park that is very big rig friendly. Enjoy your bacon! 🥓 - Jim
