Hi Jean-Pierre - fantastic creativity, thanks for sharing! I'd love to know the fill/stoke settings you applied to create the triangle shape you show around the 11 min 15 second mark in your video.
Hello, here's a breakdown of how I created the spiral triangle in this video: ruclips.net/video/Vs4hrs1qQXI/видео.html To achieve the outline effect start with triangles that have a thick stroke and no fill, between 5-10 pt, and expand the final result after the transforms are applied (the expanded triangles will have the fill of the stroke color used, with no stroke color). Switch the fill to a 1 pt stroke to create the outline of the triangles, then select the entire design and use the Live Paint Bucket tool ("k" hotkey) to fill the gaps between each triangle. Hopefully that's not too confusing and it helps!
+Whispers Around A Tree Thank you very much! The symbol in the box was created using a calligraphic brush preset I created for font design. The calligraphic brush preset is 145º angle, 10% roundness and the size is 45, and all other options are fixed in the calligraphic brush palette. Hopefully that will help!
+Zoltán Roncsek Thank you for your interest! I created the spiral triangle in illustrator by rotating triangles and experimenting with the stroke value to achieve the desired result.
***** Hey Zoltán, I think the best way to help would be to make a video :) Soon I will post a quick video on how I create some of my spiral triangle designs. Hopefully that will help! That will be an amazing piece when you get it designed and tattooed! I know you're excited to get started!
HI J-P, I am learning to make vector objects. Your vids are so helpful with nice step by step directions and a vast amount of inspiration! Oh, and your voice is easy on the ears. Thank you, also, for not adding background sounds (music). Many (A.D.D.) peeps, like me, find some music detrimental to our comprehension. I listen to my own music, softly set (Try: Chris Rice). Smiles from Prescott, AZ, Constance
Thank you Constance, I'm very glad you found the tutorial helpful, and thank you for the complements! I hope you'll have lots of fun working with this feature in Illustrator. Happy New Year!
Hi! First of all, thank you for sharing this and other Illustrator tutorials; your videos are very informative and inspiring :) I've watched your videos on triangles and pattern variations a couple of times now and have successfully applied the techniques that you covered. However, there is one particular bit that I'm trying to recreate but can't - the triangle base that you used for the pattern variation in this video (around 11:19). I've experimented with various angles of rotation (around 4 degrees) and scaling (around 90%) but can't seem to get the triangles to make that nice sharp inner curve. Is there any chance you'd shed some light on that? Cheers!
I'm so glad you enjoyed my videos, thank you so much! I would suggest you try creating a line segment with the curve that you want for the inner overlap (you could trace the inner curve from the triangle from the video if it helps) make three of them within a circle (rotated 120º) and then alter each individual triangle's scale and rotation, attempting to match the overlap with the line segments. That's actually similar to how I created the triangle you see. Each triangle is slightly varied, yet are around the values I used within the Spiral Triangles video. Hopefully that helps, please let me know if you need any other pointers, and I'll save some space for addressing them in future videos!
Whoa! It really did turn out great! It's sort of surreal seeing the design in a totally different pattern, and I'm so happy you (hopefully) achieved the result you wanted!!
Hey PapaGeorgio1337, check out my Spiral Triangles video to learn how I created the triangle design, then arrange the finished triangle in a zig-zag like pattern. It should look like one triangle with one point facing up (looks similar to the letter "A"), and the other horizontally flipped, so the triangles should look like "AV" next to one another. Cut the first triangle in half, and take the left half and move it to the other side of the second triangle - then select all of the design and convert into a pattern brush. The more you experiment, the more you'll find interesting patterns to work with.
Hey, the designs from the psd were personal art, but check out my $1 design pack available on deviant art jpssullivan.deviantart.com/art/Magic-Monday-Image-Pack-571337478 I also made a video on how you might want to make the most of the designs on my channel, just check out my Magic Monday Tutorial. Thanks Aman!
Hi! This tutorial seems to be exactly what I'm looking for, but whenever I click create a new pattern brush, the only box that contains my original image is the side tile box, the others just have red diagonal lines. Why is that?

just draw a shape you need, select it go to effects - transform panel - select angle you need - make more copies and twist it - fill or stroke color your choice. thats it.
Hahaha, not at all, my webcam was picking up audio from my clicks and keystrokes. I typically record the audio and video simultaneously because it's quicker, but in future videos I will record audio separately to avoid the interference.
I've been doing graphics for 15 years....you just blew my mind! Thank you!
Ryan Campbell Thanks Ryan, definitely watch the other videos for more inspiration!
That's awesome! Your tutorial are very clear and easy to execute for someone how's new with patterns in Illustrator. Thanks :)
This was really interesting. Thank you 😀
Cool video and great explanations on how the tilling works. Thanks!
Thanks Kris! Glad you found the video helpful!
This is amazing. Glad I found it.
This is dope!! is it possible to get the template still? link seems to be outdated
Awesome tutorial. I've just started to learn Ai, and found this video. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, Jean. Keep up good job!

Jean-Pierre Sullivan Yeah man, go for it!!! I'm putting you on my Notifications.
Awesome, you rock! Thanks!
That is just quite brilliant. Thanks a million.
this is fantastically fabulous!!
Felix Tao Thanks Felix, glad you enjoyed the video
Masha Allah. Stay blessed.
how did you make the triangle with light shapes, best regards
great tutorial. In the second triangle set, how did you make the first symbol in the box?
+Whispers Around A Tree Thank you very much!
The symbol in the box was created using a calligraphic brush preset I created for font design. The calligraphic brush preset is 145º angle, 10% roundness and the size is 45, and all other options are fixed in the calligraphic brush palette.
Hopefully that will help!
Jean-Pierre Sullivan thanks friend. I will give it a try and see what I come up with. Sure helped a lot in understanding.
Wonderful, glad I could help!

I live in Russia, and i dont understand you, but it is so interesting process
Where are you getting the Photoshop patterns from. Good Stuff!!
Kem McNair Thanks! I draw the designs in photoshop or design them in illustrator.
11:22 how to make this kind of shape. if you suggest any tutorial

This is really neat, I was wondering if someone doesn't have Illustrator cc and only have Illustrator CS5 can they do this as well?
Thanks! The auto generated corner tile feature is a new feature only available for CC. Definitely download a trial to experience the awesomeness!
I'm trying to get a result like the patterns you got at 11:26. What sort of shape did you use for the pattern?
Hey PapaGeorgio1337, check out my Spiral Triangles video to learn how I created the triangle design, then arrange the finished triangle in a zig-zag like pattern. would you please add tutorial how to draw shape in 11:12 Jean, thank you very much
Here's the tutorial: ruclips.net/video/Mx6FitOcYkw/видео.html I hope it helps!
Where can i get the psd file which you showed in the video , from you used the pattern. i need that.
Hey, the designs from the psd were personal art, but check out my $1 design pack available on deviant art jpssullivan.deviantart.com/art/Magic-Monday-Image-Pack-571337478
I also made a video on how you might want to make the most of the designs on my channel, just check out my Magic Monday Tutorial. Thanks Aman!
If you could mail me that psd it would be a very big help. Kindly send.

Had you already made the corner tiles before?
From what I gather Illustrator CC automatically generates them (I'm using CS6)
Hey Larnie, the auto-generated corner tile feature was introduced in the CC update, unfortunately in CS6 you have to create the corner tile manually.
How did you create the one triangle shape which is in the bottom right corner of the thumbnail?
And also the upper left circle?
Hey Aiva, check out my Spiral Triangles video to learn how I created the triangle design, then arrange the finished triangle in a zig-zag like pattern. It should look like one triangle with one point facing up (looks similar to the letter "A"), and the other horizontally flipped, so the triangles should look like "AV" next to one another. +Jean-Pierre Sullivan Thank you very much!
Amazing
do u mind telling me how could you make original symbol on 11:15?
just draw a shape you need, select it go to effects - transform panel - select angle you need - make more copies and twist it - fill or stroke color your choice. thats it.
one word...wow...
Were you chewing gum?
