Step 1: Set video playback speed to 50% Step 2: Laugh uncontrollably for minute or two because Nathaniel now magically sounds hammered Step 3: Follow along with ease as he is now moving at the speed of a normal, mortal human (Great tutorial, thanks man!)
Great tutorial. I always admire people who can speak this fast. They make youtube tutorials so engaging. Although it also makes me need to pause and rewind sometimes to follow your instruction.
Thank you Nick for explaining everything. I'm watching another teacher on RUclips but he/she just shows us what he's/she's doing but it's so nice to be able to hear what is going on. thank you, these videos mean a lot.
Wow amazing! I have no idea how you completed all of those steps in 20 minutes. But I much prefer your concise way of teaching than some other tutorials. And fortunately there is a pause and rewind button.
Great video! If you wanna save loading time though, make a pattern out of it instead of copying it over and over. Like this, you can also use the pattern in other files! :)
Really cool shapes! I feel like it would be helpful for you to utilize certain tricks for aligning the shapes together, such as 1) Outline Mode, 2) selecting a shape with the Selection Tool, then dragging one anchor point with the Direct Selection Tool to get it to snap exactly to another anchor point, 3) basic keyboard shortcuts like [Cmd/Ctrl]+C, +F, +B, +G, +D, etc. Really handy to know these tricks to take the guess work out of a method like this.
Hey Nathaniel. I had some problems with the blur values and film grain amount. they turned out different results then in your video. Turns out you are working at 300dpi and I'm on 72dpi. But you don't show that at the document creation at the start of your video. Maybe a tip for future videos.
I love usually love the tutorials because I can always do them after I watch the video and I can see how it's mostly done before the video, but the pattern / shadow elements are hard to develop by myself without having the measurements for how much shadow, or where to put the gradient with the gradient tool. Any tips for how you designed the shadows on the individual segment before seeing the final product? did you have a reference image or is it just eyeballing?
Nice video! I would like to add a piece of advice if you allow me to. Whatch out using so many effects in a pattern. This makes the whole artwork file too big and hard to work with especially for print. Make sure that you keep the pattern is on separate linked file and rasterize it before submit it to the printer.
Hi, just wondering if there is a reason you didn't use the pattern tool or create a pattern swatch ? like does it not function properly in this scenario or is it just how you work .. ps. great tutorial & thanks
So cool!, it looks really sharp and clean! Good design idea and as always great tut, your cool charismatic nature makes it fun and interesting to watch. you should do an Illu tut on making an acoustic or electric guitar. maybe a PRS. that would be good for a course, i can see how many of the tools in Illustrator would come into play.
Great tutorial, thanks! Although for the final part, it's easier to turn the shape into a pattern instead. Resize the tile to fit, and choose "Hex by Row" in tile type. and if you want to make changes, edit the final shape and that will effect the rest of pattern.
I debated doing do this, but didn't take the time to sort out how I would convert it to a pattern and make it all work. You're probably 100% right, though. It would only make sense that a pattern would be more efficient than me copy and pasting 100x, haha Thanks for the comment!!
New to Illustrator here, but I've seen the Transform effect be used to quickly duplicate lines a certain distance / rotation away. Would this have also worked for these objects? Why / why not? Thanks for the great tut!
My attention span is usually crap and I lose interest quite easily BUT because you were talking so fast for some reason I didn't drift off into space like usual lol This was awesome man thank you! lol If I could go back in time and tell my teachers why I didnt learn from them, its because they were talking too slow bhahahah (or maybe they just sucked at teaching! :s) AWESOME video!! Keep it up!!!
Excellent tutorial, thank you. I do have a question, is there a way to "optimize" this file? Optimize may be the wrong word, but my situation is this, I save the final result as an Illustrator 3 file so that I can import into ezcad, the problem is when I do this, it bogs down ezcad badly. Granted I'm on an engineering laptop with an Nvida Quadro a 48GB of RAM, and an i7 cpu with dual nvme ssd's in a raid config for performance, so working with the end result of this files PC impact should be minimal at best.
Awesome tutorial. although you should mention that it's beginner aimed as it's super detailed. Also you have an interesting (different) workflow and thought process.
if it goes to fast for you, than lower the speed of the video. like 0.75 or 0.5 .. and you can click on subtitles, so you can read what is said. - it works
couldn't you make a repeating pattern swatch instead of copy pasting a bunch of times, or is there something in the effects you made that prevents it from being a truly seamless pattern?
Lol, mine looks nothing like this. I tried going back and redoing shapes and it just keeps coming out super ugly. I got the shapes in the right spots but the shadows -- especially the grains! -- look terrible! And I made sure to put in the exact numbers. Also for the triangle shadow groups, if I did what you suggested the shadows were completely gone. I had to go down to a 20% shadow in order for them to appear. Are my settings just all wrong?
Dude - You rock big time, this is absolutely crazy good.. Did you know, that Now people can make their own Decals for Gran Turismo Sport. But limit is 15kb svg's .. any thoughts and ideas for easy making small sized decals/Banners for GTS .
Great tut, but I can't get the pen tool to display "anchor" when hovering over the guides. (±3:28 in the video). Illustrator CC2017. Smart guides checked. Any idea?

(Great tutorial, thanks man!)
75%
1.75x is the most efficient
This is so true xD
Thanks for the tip, I always feel like he's too fast to follow
I can't stop laughing at how accurate this is! He sounds absolutely hammered at 50% speed

Thanks for watching, Gierlang Bhakti Putra

That was awesome! I thought I did a pretty good similar shape, but that one blew mine away! Thanks for sharing.
Amazing WorkS!! took me 3 hours to completed!! it is super helpful for what your explanations. thank you a lot!
This is great! If you want to make a pattern of this, you set the pixels at 444 wide, and 384 vertical.
Wow done it at last thanks tut can't do without my daily tut tut
Your VECTOR DESIGN really AweSOme

Bahh, I usually try to remember to include that info. My mistake on this one.
Glad you sorted out the issue on your end, though! 👌
Wow! Realistic Pattern.

Utterly agree with you, you should have a very performed machine to resume and finish the illustration.
Great video! Thanks a lot!

it works
I’m surprised that you did not use Illustrator’s built-in pattern making facility to create the final pattern.
Awesome 👌👌
couldn't you make a repeating pattern swatch instead of copy pasting a bunch of times, or is there something in the effects you made that prevents it from being a truly seamless pattern?
Oh, my God! ow does it appear so smooth in his videos? I double judged by Adobe Illustrator for not doing it as Tutvid asks.
Pretty cool!
Glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks! 👌
TY for your tutorials! :)
wow! i did it!!!!

Thanks a bunch for the kind words! I'll look into reducing the size of an SVG, that's a good question.
first time i watch, plzzzzz dark mode

شكرا صديقي :)
Nice tutorials! You can also push Ctrl+D for fast copy fragments in previous distance;) Thank you!
Ooooh, that's a good point. Thanks for leaving the comment and the great tip!
Thank you for your channel! Dub at Selected Anchors - nice script. I'm trying it;)
Impressive tutorial! you've earned my subscribe.
Wish you best of luck.
@tutvid Thankyou SIr.. I made this really Amazing
ty
I have done everything as per your guidance, but my results are nowhere near the accuracy as your result. What can be the reason?
Great sir.
Thanks! 🍻
How do I get my illustrator properties tabs to look like that and show the layers at the same time?
It is hard but awesom ! ))
Glad you liked!
god this guy is good
good!
Great tut, but I can't get the pen tool to display "anchor" when hovering over the guides. (±3:28 in the video).
Illustrator CC2017. Smart guides checked.
Any idea?
Same Problem here bro!
Go to View and uncheck Snap to Pixel.
yay my laptop is 1440p so this is like the only tutorial that i can follow 1:1
21:19 when you zoomed in I just thought that was a specular line, that could have worked lol
yea same it looks more realistic like that !
Hey man, You just killed me!!!
20:15 Try using Cmd + D on Mac or Ctrl + D on Windows.
he definetly should have already known that command, probably doesn't use it for the tutorials though, easier to understand for some i guess
great!
Thank you very much 😃
Neat.. thank you...
Thanks!
crazy nice
Thanks!
