In this video, we’ll learn all about Fontself which is an extension that allows you to convert raw artwork to fonts. You can save these fonts and share them just like any other font that you download online. It’s a very cool tool and something that I think any graphic designer or logo designer would like quite a bit!

Good lord I had been hand-writing, aligning, and spacing every letter and every word. That took forever. Being able to make your own font quickly like this is like a miracle compared to that laborious process. Thank you!
I did that once for a film project- spent 4 hours making the typography and aligning it, etc. ... just to find out there's already a downloadable file for the font online 😭

If you use the Image Trace window you can tell it to ignore white during the process and get only the solid black. Just makes it a tad bit easier.

You just sold me on this! I did some work for 1C Game Studios. I have to make 130+ WWII RAF Badges (Squadron Emblems). Vectoring out every character for ALL of them was grueling. Now I can take my file and just make it type-able.

That funky "y" notwithstanding... I actually kind of like the funky "y", although maybe not so much in that specific application. Looks like a cool extension. I may need to try out Illustrator again.

can you use your custom font outside adobe apps?
If you have a surface pro, you can just begin by writing directly into Photoshop??
If I want to make very dramatic fonts with really big ascenders and descenders can I still do this in Fontself? :/ I'm a bit off put by the way the y in the font in this video is considered too long for the program

Hey Guys, what Is the de facto way to make a font? What have you tried? I haven't tried Fontself or Calligraphr, but would be super interested in finding out more options.

If you use Illustrator, Fontself is really the easiest and fastest way to go since you don't have to learn a new tool, and get a pretty powerful set of features for a cool price.
