      @@emmabennett7699 Sometimes less is more when it comes to visual mediums like movies. You can literally sum up what you said here in the book, in that scene alone. Her kid told another kid to die, based on his looks. She downplayed the situation as a kid hurting a kid's feelings and even that context makes it sound worse than she was trying to make it like. Then she admits to creating the photo that started the mess in the first place, as well as makes her bullying kid look like the victim, in turn making herself look like the victim, showing exactly what kind of cruel person she is that the book describes her to be. A cruel prejudiced sociopath who cares more about her self image than she does about the wellbeing, behavior and education of her son. I didn't even have to read this comment to know that. I just knew because I seen this stuff at my own school when I was young.

      I think another issue is that his parents were a bad influence together because part of me wonders if the mother actually reflects some of the actions that both she and her son took. Kids see what their parents do and think it's OK to do the same thing when his mother treated them like the kid didn't exist by taking him out of the photos. Part of me wishes that they had another scene where the mother saw that they took his son out of the photo to kind of make her realize her actions a little bit. But I have to say I've never experienced bullying but I have experienced isolation because of both parents and children when I was little and I respect teachers to show that it's OK to be different and to make other kids realize that that's what makes the world better not be in the same

In my own school years ago someone in my year was bullied to the point of feeling physically ill and stayed home for a week. The teachers got wind of it and suspended the bully and his parents were in the same day to complain saying the other boy needed to “grow a thicker skin”. Parental love can be amazing, but blind faith and support while overlooking their own child’s faults just lets them get away with anything

      I taught middle school. When kids turned 11 or 12, they start to change drastically. They start moving into "tribes". This is the period in life where kids are trying to make a name for themselves in middle school. Unfortunately, that involves a level of bullying other kids, or clowning them for the clothes they wear, or how much money they have, etc. Kindergartners are still innocent. They don't know themselves as well as middle schoolers. After middle school though, once kids reach high school, they are still judgmental but not so much. Teasing and bullying is not as intense.

    • @Kara-de5cz
      @Kara-de5cz 3 года назад

      And that scene pissed me off too.
      Because the principal did something against bullying, and the mother was like "taht's not how the real world works, you can't care about everyone's feelings, blah blah blah". What she says is basically "lmao you really trying to solve problems ? The world is what it is."
      And it pisses me off because that's the same type of response we get when we try to fight racism, sexism, LGBTQ+phobia, fatphobia, etc etc. Basically people do not care about others' feelings, they are too selfish and have too much ego to admit they are wrong.
      So that's why the world can not change. Because of the mentality of this mother. Because of the mentality of so many people.

      Hayden Graczyk they’re not brain dead. They just don’t think their child deserves getting punished for this so they try to act like it’s a little thing which is why she says they’re just a “couple of notes” and then tries to make it seem like a normal thing you can’t help since in the real world you get insulted all the time, and then they say they’ve done so much for the school because of the money they have along with the many friends in the school board as if they are important people that can take his job. These are all different ways of manipulation. So they seem to be somewhat smart in that regard, and not brain dead. Brain dead would be genuinely seeing nothing wrong in this whole thing and thinking their child is perfect. The parents know it’s wrong which is why the mom initially takes part of the blame in the beginning

      It made me think of how a lot of people like Julian's parents did not grow up with the experience of meeting different people with genetic mutations. I think this movie was set at a public school. Rich people have much less power over a public school. They lied about the nightmares and the money they put into the school. In the Public school world they don't care much about the financial power of a students family.

    • @albozz4350
      @albozz4350 3 года назад +1

      @Brayden Pender really? From my experience they handle things better, as kids at private schools have similar backgrounds, and the schools have more power. Since private schools have better facilities the school is much more aware, which you know, is kind of unfair to everyone else

    • @datefig8606
      @datefig8606 3 года назад +2

      @@albozz4350 in my experience, as a student at a private school, with parents who are teachers at a private school- parents have power over everything. we've had cases where students were aggressive, or even went as far as to hurt staff, but the teachers were still blamed because the parents complained. in private schools, (as said above) money = power and control

  • @DragonessTiger
    @DragonessTiger 10 месяцев назад +22

    One of the best scenes of the movie. We see things not just from Auggie’s perspective, but also Julian’s. He realises the mistake he’s made & genuinely feels bad about it. We’re shown that Julian isn’t really a bad kid, but that he’s simply doing what he thought was normal having never known any other way thanks to his pompous & shortsighted parents.
    It’s Mr Tushman who is true MVP in this scenario. He can see that it isn’t Julian’s fault the way he is, being gentle & soft spoken in reprimanding him. Even when Julian’s parents try to turn the tables to make their son look like the victim, he outwits them both with his both wise & witty words. Tushman remains calm despite the parents threatening him or when they degrade Auggie. It takes a great deal of strength for an adult not to lash out when a child is hurt, Tushman held it together incredibly well.

    That Mom is so royally screwed up that by the time Julian is old enough to go to college he's never going to leave home because his parents will do everything for him and Julian is going to look his mother say I hate you because of everything that she put him through when he was just a kid. And the mom talking about Julian having nightmares think about ogie and how many times he's had to have surgery to fix his face and wake up in pain. I won’t spoil it, but while he’s visiting his grandma in France he really reflects on his actions and even tells his mom off and says he was in the wrong. He does a good job coming back around, if I remember correctly he makes amends with Auggie too.
