13 Months Living In An Abandoned Ghost Town!

- It's been 13 months up here at Cerro Gordo now! It's almost impossible for me to believe. I remember the craziest idea ever would be one year alone up here. Now, I'm a month past that and it's made me think more about my future up here and the projects I want to focus on.
This month I completed a few building renovation projects I've been wanting to clear up, took some epic explorations, and continued some ongoing projects.
I really, really appreciate everyone who has taken the time to check out this channel. It's made these past 13 months the best 13 months of my life. THANK YOU!

Thank you all so much!
WHO ELSE THINKS BRENT'S CAMERA WORK IS AWESOME ?
Seriously, his filming skills don't get enough credit!
Thank you! Trying to get better each week...
It’s looking very professional. I love it. I can’t wait till I get the opportunity to go see this place.
Fun to watch the progress. Feels like the birth of a re-birth.
The way he put this content together from the narration to the content and musical score was epic. Truly award winning. He needs to be recognized.
More attraction ideas for Cerro Gordo:
1. Invite relatives of the miners to tell the tales of their ancestors
2. Get a school for film makers to make a bunch of amateur western short films in the mining town and have a premiere and award show of the films in the theatre
3. Run a drone filming workshop and film the land
Great ideas! Thumbs up.
two is a great idea! i'd love to see that
3. Get running water before 1 above
Wow. Very talented ideas.
WOW! You gave him some EXCELLENT IDEAS!!!👍😀😁😇 I LOVE. WHEN I read comments and can just feel the Kind 💕 hearts...in people like you!😁👍❤
Johnny is as nimble as a mountain goat, he always runs up the slopes so fast. Please name the next goat you adopt after him! :D
Brent, the only person in history to buy an abandoned mining town and build a mini-golf course in one of the old mines. I love it!
likely because every other mini golf business owner knew building a mini golf coarse in a mine is a lawsuit waiting to happen. just wait till lil timmy walks in to take his shot and 80 tons of stone come crashing down on top of him, or maybe he steps on a random half buried stick of dynamite that was missed in the cleanup process... or maybe he accidentally slips into a 300 foot deep hole... or maybe he gets bitten by a rattlesnake that happens to live in the mine which i hear is pretty common. way too many horrible possibilities when dealing with mines, this is why quite literally no one aside from miners makes a business out of them.
@@Smokey420Greenleaf I heard of a kid named Tommy Nokker, he use to tap his golf club 3 times before knocking the ball into the hidden dynamite at the end of the tunnel.
That was a really cool idea! Maybe add more to it later? Guests can enjoy 18 hole mini golf while they enjoy their stay at the American Hotel.

Brent, have you made yourself Mayor/Sherriff yet? I think you would win the vote from the residents if you stood!
Yes, with a big Cerro Gordo Silver Sherriff Star! Some forge smith person should make it happen. :)
He is owner and Mayor of Cerro Gordo hands down.
@@stephanieraebel8160 IIRC he might still need an election to become Mayor or Sheriff, so he needs to organise a poll of the residents.
He's got to respect democracy. He could do it before breakfast! lol!
Bret does have the goats (very entertaining) and cats (very playful). So he's not totally alone. Perhaps if he rescues a dog, he can be the mayor & Brent the Sheriff!
He needs a town drunk too, a resounding combination to be sure!
"The mine that built the town will quite literally build the town again" There's something poetically beautiful about those words. These videos are always an inspirational highlight for me.
He’s always contemplating and I love it!
Just found out last week my great great grandfather came from Hungary and mined in Pennsylvania. Died in a collapse with 3 other Hungarians. I knew I had miners in my family, but not to that extent! My grandfather built off his grandfather and
rose to Vice President of US Steel in Pittsburgh back in the 80s and early 90s. The history of your town has led me to look into more of my history personally!
Lindsey great story and adds so much as you noted to Brent's story. Both of you are great inspirations to others as many families have great stories of immigration and how they arrived to these lands.
such a happy and passionate man. this is what i call a rich man
The amount you've achieved in 13 months and I haven't finished decorating my bathroom in the same time
🤣
LOLOL
Hahahahahaha, I'm on day three stripping a Boston rocker.
Who else greatly appreciates Brent giving us a wonderful mini-vacation? My mood was turned around in 30 minutes.
I feel like a little piece of me is camped out there because of these awesome videos.
I seriously can't wait too see people come and stay here. This town is so interesting and definitely deserves to be saved
Honestly
Good day Brent; Found this, this morning and thought of you

@Anna omg... its him

Report, report, report.
@@juststeve5542 Thank you for letting me know! I reported.
Can't argue this one. Maybe I can get a haircut in the next 13 months haha
Yeah, he is beginning to look wild and wooly.
can we just take a minute to apriciate HOW FORKING GOOD HIS VIDEOS ARE EDITED!?!? SOOOOOOOO MUUUCH BEA-UTY! Agree?
Totally agree, I have said that many times and will repeat: It is a joy, entertaining to watch, dreaming of a visit or just dreaming (I watch on a relatively big screen.)
I mention this nearly every time i comment... it's just perfect!
And the sound is great. A lot of channels you have to strain to hear.
Like I've always said, this is one of the best RUclips vlogs based on the subject matter, the quality narration, the great video quality and the great editing. An entertaining and fascinating educational history lesson in each video.
I just commented about this. Yeah, I wonder if it is him or a team. Making all that footage and editing it all in a week sounds tough. Whoever it is, they're doing great work!
Had my Dad still been around, your channel would be his favorite. His uncle owned gold and silver mines in Nevada and he and my youngest brother, Danny, had a couple of mining claims in the Gardnerville/Minden, NV area. He always seemed to be happiest when he was researching the next mine that he and Danny would repel into. Since I have watched everyone of your videos, apparently some of his love of old mines has rubbed off on me. Be save and keep the videos coming!
Oh, Brent! My God! The music and the drone footage at the end of this video lifted me right up to the top of those majestic mountains. Unbelievable goosebumps! Thank you so much for sharing your enormous talent with us. You are truly gifted!
as a professional in the entertainment industry. your storytelling is phenomenal. your structure of the storyline is well done. your scripting of the narrations are great. its amazing you do this all on your own. ive shot worse things with a whole crew that played on discovery.
Thank you so much!
@@GhostTownLiving your welcome, I have been watching from the first one, since I have been enthralled with Cerro Gordo since I was a kid. I grew up in Bishop, and even though I live in LA, I still travel the eastern sierras with my family on a regular basis, its our favorite part of California and likely one of the most beautiful parts of the country. So I know that area well, and through my ghost town journeys all over the back side of the mountains (Keeler, panamint, masonic, etc), Cerro Gordo has always been the Unicorn I have never been able to get to becuase its always been private property. so I can't wait for you to open that place up. By the way, the reason the drone keeps crashing, is likely becuase your model drone doesnt have lateral sensors :) some do, some don't, based on how much you crash that thing, you should get one that does. :)
Really? it seems overwrought. We get it, Cerro Gordo, national treasure, historic landmark, we should all be enthralled. In truth, there is little that is left, and what is is from the last century and barely over 100 years old. He is obviously aware of this, and spends a lot on repetitive embellishment. But, I don't think he needs to do this, it interesting enough with out it.
If you read this Brent, keep doing what you do.
@@noleftturnunstoned I have only been here for a few weeks and was glad that this information was still told after a year. not everyone is there right from the start, or is maybe stumbling across one of the videos by accident, without having an overview of who he is and what Cerro Gordo was, you don't even know what's going on. So this will help new viewers that will come in the future too, to get to know all of this, we should appreciate this and hope a lot more people will come here and support him :)
@@noleftturnunstoned I agree. It’s really repetitive watching this in a chronological playlist like I am, from the very beginning until now as a new viewer. It’s annoying. But certainly I’d rather have this than not.
Can't wait to stay in the miner's cabin and wake up to a goat staring at me through the window.
Gost will say :: ur lazy as heck man I have travels the world in seconds dude
He needs a cabin with a goat door. I’d rent that cabin.
Have you ever seen Black Side Mountain
This guy took a social distancing idea to a whole new level
Shut up
You took original comments to a whole new level 😜
Lol
His youthful energy is infectious!
Not gonna lie, the longer hair makes you look like a mad scientist 😂
Kinda how I feel these days haha
How about building a barbers shop, get some clippers and shave it all off in there 👍🏻
he looks like a sesame street muppet but I still wanna know what's next hahaha
A Manbun would look great on you.
Brent I'm not sure what the threat of wildfire is up there in the high desert but maybe getting some sort of old fire truck or truck with a tank, and pump just in case. I can imagine you wouldn't be a man to evacuate so having some sort of plan could hopefully save the town. I've heard this is going to be the worst California wildfire season in modern history. At a minimum create some defensible space around each structure. Also if a campfire or anything else were to get out of control you could handle it before it spreads.
Good call. You can never be too prepared, specially with buildings made out of wood that have dried in the sun for decades. Would be a great idea to clear all the brush around as far as possible for the fire season. When spring comes. Have the goats 🐐 eat the surrounding vegetation to prepare for next years fire season.
Good idea, but given the age of the cabins and things I guess it hasn't been a problem in the last 100 years, however, that's not to say it won't be, and that being prepared for it is a bad idea.
It’s on the list
He mentions it in an earlier video
I imagine considering what happened a few months back at Cerro Gordo, Brent is very aware of and rightfully paranoid about fire safety.
The Death Valley side of the Owens Valley isn't as wildfire prone as the Sierra side. There's less fuel and no chaparral. The high desert doesn't burn as easily as the chaparral mountain environment.
Someone needs to make a movie about this place with your voice as the narrator.
I can sleep better at night knowing there's a VHS copy of the 1999 cinema masterpiece "The Mummy" in Cerro Gordo.
Every week I come looking for Levis Jeans, and I will continue returning until he finds them.
Whats the thing with thise Jeans?
I imagine an old rotten ppice of clothing?
Lol they are just such great jeans
@@yaykruser They are part of mining history, They found quite a few recently in one mine, all showing different designs, and they show the years they were made. The mine owners owned the jeans, and the workers would change into them when working, then change back to normal life clothing... some worth serious money too!
And I appreciate that. I too, will continue until I find some!
I want to sneak up there late at night and hide an old pair of 501s in a tunnel.
Except:
- He'd hear me
- I couldn't go up there without a few beers and to shake his hand!
- Modern 501s are different.
- I live in the UK!
I always appreciate that you keep in mind that this might be someone's first video they've ever seen of yours. It always feels so welcoming, even for those of us who've been here since the first month.
I appreciate that! I try to balance people coming for first time vs a while now. Thank you for sticking with it!
@@GhostTownLiving I came in at the first episode right after the hotel burned down. Your raw emotions clutched my heart, and made me cry. It made me feel, what if the Manor (a living history museum where I volunteer), burned down. Then, just two months later, we lost the Manor anyway, through greed, theft, and lies. At least it's still standing though, but unfortunately the new owner cut down the Native-American Signal Tree. :'( :'( :'(
It’s interesting it’s been months since I’ve checked out your channel. RUclips kept suggesting this video to me at
least 5 times today and man I’m glad I checked it out. You seem like you’re absolutely glowing with excitement and joy. Keep it up man, you’ve built something special between this town, the channel, and your personality. You were way more seemingly IMO shy when I first saw you on this channel and now you’ve blossomed
Thanks! Glad you checked it out
Brent I have been so sick this past week, and this video put a smile on my face. I appreciate your content so much :)
Brent is a ghost town necromancer. Hes literally taking a dead abandoned town and rebuilding it from the bones of it that were left in the dust.
Brent has REALLY big plans that he needs help with. me too! I'm IN! Bring water? Check. Gasoline? Check.
A Messiah of his own religion

The day Brent finds his Levi jeans I will forever refer to it as 'Levi Jeans' day.
Im down too
I’ll do it as well
It will have to become a Cerro Gordo town holiday!
And we’ll all celebrate it each year!
Hopefully he'll find um more than once. 🤞😃👍
I see you there, 92 years old and always happy to be there. What a gorgeous life!
I'm a 65 year old woman and wish I was 30 years old. What a cool adventure you are living will pray that God sends you a companion that understands and wants to heyou with your dreams.
Congrats... you brought LIFE back in Cerro Gordo... goats roaming the fields, working in the mines, converting them to a minigolf, rebuilding the village... you won't leave that place no more mate, the "ghost" approves you and your works and is your friend now... What a once in a lifetime adventure...
Thank you! Agreed, it is quite the adventure.

In 100+ years when someone is doing the same thing you’re doing they are gonna be super confused with the mini golf cours in a cave 😂
forreal hahaha they probably go into the mines expecting dynamite boxes and old crap but then they find a fucking golf course lmao. can totally imagine their "why the fuck" faces.
Mini golf courses and drones everywhere. Lol.
But, oh what fun!
Reminded me of when I worked at a mini golf course back in the 80's that started in a fake mine shaft with two holes underground before you finished above, oddly enough it was called "The Mine Shaft".
RUclips will have been archived and still available to everyone, exactly like our literature has been for centuries. they'll probably have known all about it before they even show up.
Thanks Brent. After this past year, I was feeling pretty uninspired. Finding your channel has really motivated me. I can't sit around anymore being worried about the rona. Time to knock the dust off and get busy living.
I'm getting interstellar vibes with the outro. I've been watching Ghost Town Living everyday for a week now and I'm really loving everything so far.
I love that Brent is looking more and more like a wild prospector.
His orange hair and beard add a flair.
A very subtle "thank you for subscribing" at the end. Doesn't ask for patreon sub, no BS sponsor, doesn't ask for us to click in like button. Much respect.
Thanks! I like to keep it subtle. I don't like the pressuring
I wouldn't mind compensating Brent for his work. I understand he probably gets some ad revenue but I feel like contributing to the building of cerro gordo for him and future custodians would be very neat. He can definitely rake in some money once covid chills out with tourism but getting the money now would help build it faster. I would see Brent more likely to make merch or have a patreon for cat/goat livestreams or something, a means where we feel we are gaining something rather than a third party.

Those final shots with the music, wow.
Brent you can maybe attach cameras to the goats and capture the footage on where do they wander around the property. It could be good footage because goats are good mountaineers.

I love coming back to rewatch these older videos. I find them very relaxing and almost nostalgia inducing. I didn’t grow up in the desert, but I grew up way out in the woods and my dad was always taking me exploring around the property in his scout or on 4 wheelers (it wasn’t nearly as big as the property Cerro Gordo sits on, but still pretty expansive). Anyway, I say all that to say, I hope he never stops making these videos and I sincerely hope to visit the town one day when it’s ready for guests.
