I love following brents work at cerro gordo, was really cool to see someone like you enjoy it so much. Im sure brent woulda been happy to shoot a short clip with you he seems like a chill guy. Would love to see you comment on some of his mine exploring videos on the things you can pick out. Maybe even one day theyd let you ride the lift down and you could make a great video about it
I would absolutely love to go into one of his underground mines. It would be such a thrill of a lifetime. Maybe someday.
Wow Elley, you know a lot about rock's or Geology and listening to you geek out about everything you find is great. If you and Brent joined your knowledge together the tour's that the both of you could provide. Cerro Gordo could become a Geology school of it's own. Not to mention the field trips would be awesome.
Been watching Brent's channel since he started it. It was interesting to get your take on the dreaded road .
Brent is quite emphatic about the difficulty of getting up to Cerro Gordo and after watching this video I now understand.
Didn't realize there were so many other little holes in the walls on the way up.
Good vid.
This is the content that youtube needs again.
These smaller channels need recognition. Educational videos should be the number one genre youtube recommends.
Awe thank you soo much !!!
Death valley and also just desert is just so beautiful and can be dangerous,I've always loved the desert
Wow. Too see someone with as much passion for the local geology as Brent; and to be willing to share some of your own knowledge with his team makes your visit to Cerro Gordo a win-win indeed. Thanks for sharing your geological road trip with us.
I'm so happy when I see some of my favorite youtubers doing collaborations! ❤
Watching you, a geologist, looking at rocks and their formation is like going someplace with me, a meteorologist looking at clouds.
Bret it is so cool you are the guy that’s bringing this town to life with help from others it’s not easy what you are doing but hopefully soon it will be like Virginia city where everyone can stay and eat and explore
It is awesome what they’re doing up there. I love Virginia city. I went to college in Reno. Virginia City was one of my favorite places to go and explore.
His name is Brent. Ugh. :Facepalm
My friend and I were there a few days ago. Loved the rock formations. Did not tour ,just signed the log in the museum. Loved it . Just too old to do much climbing. We are 69+....m.....
Thank you for bringing attention to the CCC. I appreciate that greatly.
Brent is such a good man, he made a video for our castle last year. I cant wait to goto Cerro Gordo one day, this is a beautifully made video.
My first time ever watching one of your videos , and I must say I’m impressed with your knowledge of rocks . My wife & I have been watching Brent’s videos about his town since the first episodes aired & he & his crew have been doing spectacular things up there . Glad you were able to meet him in person & really enjoyed watching this video . As a side note our second daughter just gave us the first Granddaughter ( we have 3 grandsons from our first ) and coincidentally our Granddaughter is also named Elizabeth ( Ellie for short ) and since our two girls are Red -Heads we are pretty sure Ellie will be as well . At only just barely 11 months old now she shows an inquisitive mind and I’m hoping she will become an outdoors person along with the rest of our family . Who knows, maybe she will become interested in geology as well & someday have her own adventure channel like you 😉😎👍
I’m so glad you enjoyed my video. Thank you for watching. It was great to meet Brent and chat with him about the mine. The area was awesome. Congratulations on your grand children. Start putting rocks next to her crib. Lol when she’s old enough get her a science kit, lol maybe she’ll get into geology that would be awesome. Have a wonderful day.
@@ElleyKnowsRocks Thanks for the reply back 😊. You have an Awesome day as well , and don’t worry , this 63 year old Grandpa is a desert rock hound here myself. It’s really amazing what rocks & our surroundings can tell us if we just slow down and take the time to look & understand 😉. Enjoy.👍
Thank you so much… Ur the best 💙💙
Very cool,as a kid I spent many summers in this area,my Grandfather was a Geologist And President of Vanderbilt Mining. He ran the Morningstar Mine in what is now the Mohave Preserve.Lots of interesting places in that desert,my grandfather had one of those prince Albert cans sitting on his shelf in his office very cool.Great video ty for taking the time to film and work in that dangerous area, always check the seat before you sit down😂
What a good adventure that is WELL PRESENTED. You could be a spokesperson for Brent !! Seriously. Would be neat to see you and Brent team up on an explore down the shaft there. Thx for a great video !!
You may not know this, but old adits (especially blind declines) with exposed sulfides (pyrite) the oxygen in the air may get depleted. All of a sudden you pass out, then die! My father (geologist) liked to use carbide lamps because in "dead air" the flame would go out, telling him to back out. (Similar to the story of canaries in a coal mine). In one instance, my father and a colleague were sampling an adit (decline) and they found a sharp boundary where the carbide lamps would repeatedly snuff out. Thx for the video!
This is exactly right. It can be a very unsafe thing to do. And even though I wasn’t exactly sure of the air quality. There was a lot of foot traffic that went in and out of this mine, this tells me that there had been a few people there before us. In general, if I know that I’m going to an area with a Bandan mines, I will bring my gas monitor. And that’s kind of one of the reasons I stopped and didn’t go all the way in.. thank you so much
Just take with you some canary's with you , they will die first giving you more time to get out !
Super cool.
This was my first video of yours to watch. It was so much fun! I will be watching more.❤
Awesome! You are the Rock Barbie! I love to be part of your adventures. Thank you for all your amazing work. Love you~!
Hey Ellen, being a Cerro Gordo freak you suggested me your video and am I glad that I clicked on that play button.
I am super impressed with your knowledge of the different types of rocks and sedimentary formations! My wife and I made it up there in our 2 wheel drive charger a year ago.
God I would love to be part of your adventures and learn the oodles of knowledge you have learnt.
Stay safe and enjoy these mystical adventures!!
Peace out 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
I think the road could be a different experience now, since the rains have washed it out twice in the past year.
@@ThinkFreely2012 I think Enterprise will need to sort us out something a bit more fitting in that case, we got lucky 🤙🏼
Love your geologic commentary. Good differentiation from other blogs. I have encountered Mississippian in the Nopah’s and with Tin Mountain strata.
OMGOSH! How can you walk around those areas without doing some rock hounding. I would be dying to even do some surface collecting. Great episode.
It is very difficult. I was so wanted to collect things. It’s like being a kid in a toy store. I just wanted everything.
Collecting is compulsion. It is good to resist thee desires. Be well.
I admire people of the past , and present, that can/ could work & explore these places, because it sure isn’t me.
That was fun
The last time I was up there the entrance to the mine was fully covered with chain link. It was neat you got a peak at the headframe. I have always had fun in that area. Another neat chariot for the queen. Keep having fun. See you on the next adventure! 😷⚒
The more you know the geology of the place the more special it is.
Yes!!! :)
3:07-4:00 Stan Jones was living in that cabin when he wrote "Ghost Riders in the Sky" in 1948.
Fun video. Thanks for showing the road, good to know what to expect!
Lots of awesome stuff in this video. Glad RUclips showed it to me Probably because i follow the mine adventures there! Great Channel
I have found so many channels thanks to Brent and Ghost Town Living. Glad to have found you!!
Goes all the way to the end.😊
Nice trip ...I bought an awesome shirt from Cerro Gordo mines ...Love it !
Thank you!! I should’ve bought a shirt, but I didn’t bring any cash with me
Wonder Hussey have some competition. Good job.
Great video. Big thumbs up.👍
A cute lady and a Geology, I love how excited she is seeing what I take for granted. I started exploring the deserts back in the late 70s and had to stop in 1999. Keep up the exploring young lady.
My Grandpa did time in Minnesota as a CCC worker
Wow amazing..
Thank you for what you have done at cg I really love watching every thing I'm a musician from Cincinnati Ohio hopefully I can get there in person and enjoy your beautiful town peace ✌️ and love 💞 my friend
Fantastic video Elley ! Really enjoyed the tour. I'm sure it's much warmer there now. LOL ! Thanks for sharing. 🤠
I came from Brent's channel, nice! TY!
It goes all the way back to the end.
I'm heading up there soon. I almost went in July when I was in Lone Pine. Ran right past the road up there about a year ago, not knowing at the time that it was THE road. Ugggf!
Nice vid thanks
2:06 looks like a painting. So pretty!
I would love to see water in that lake!
Well done video. It's cool to see your excitement and your knowledge is very impressive.
Awe thank you so much
Outstanding adventure. Loved this. 😊
Thank you
@@ElleyKnowsRocks most welcome 🤗
The first mine you go into, so far, I haven't seen it in Brent channel
Looks a more recent than the mines he usually shows. Wonder why don't get to see that one.
nice job, learned somethings I didn't know.
Thank you and that’s great
I’ve not seen the route you took up the mountain. Everyone seems to take the main road and we don’t get to see what you found. Very cool and ballsy
Great Video! Glad I finally happened across your channel! Well done!
I love that place. I hope to go there sometime!!
I hope you can too!
❤ it , 😊I love brents videos think he maybe one of the RUclipsrs I have been subscribed to since the start of his journey
Wonder why Brent has never shown us this mine? That tunnel is just begging to be explored more!
I've been watching brents channel since he first started making videos, if I ever travel to the u.s. I'll be asking brent somehow if there's anything I can help with or work to be done..
Being part of that ghost towns story would be amazing!
I bet you had a blast mate!
That caged in place might be where they stored the digging tools, it should have been your first thought
Subscribed love geology and your site.
Dude the making of the awesome Ring 💍 was touching,I really appreciate what you did peace ☮️ and love 💞 my friends
Hi Elley!! I am a geologist,, soft rocks and paelo interest, and I love the Death Valley, Darwin, Owen's Valley area. I'm guessing that you have taken geology classes, you very nicely describe all the lovely features that are part of your videos. Just discovered your videos and I look forward to watch more of them. Keep on rock'n!!
I would love to listen to her all the time. So intellegent about all the rock's, the mountain's, and how they were formed. Plus it dose not sound like a script that she is reading.
4:33 Sticks of TNT lining the bottom of that box? Now THAT'S an explosive Guest Book! 🧨🧨🔥🔥
This is the Estelle tunnel workings the goal was to connect the Estelle to the Union and Morning Star mines.
I had hoped you would walked back to the collapse so you could give name to the clay mix formation.
I wouldn’t walk back if I would’ve had more time., in my notes of research about this place I have all of the rock formations and I believe the formation you’re talking about is the chainman formations, they are undefined shells, and argillaceous rocks (Clastic sedimentary rock containing silt- or clay-sized particles) and some of the formation can still have soft clay pockets and visible clays throughout. Does that help?
@@ElleyKnowsRocks Thank You! Yes it does help.
Most of the collapse in the mines around Cerro Gordo are in the Chainman formations.
I found a lot info on the USGS.gov website. Brent has the book from the USGS
pubs.er.usgs.gov/publication/pp408#:~:text=The%20Inyo%20Mountains%20near%20Cerro,dacitic%20dikes%20of%20later%20age.
You need to check out the Escalante area in S. Utah...petrified wood, dino bones, uranium, sharks teeth, geodes and a lot of crazy rock formations...I found a raw diamond once.
Brent is doing the Lords work preserving Cerro Gordo.. Lots of ups and downs during his time there..
And so proud of how far he's come in his journey with Cerro Gordo..
And I'm with the other commenter that mentioned you being a rock hound and not grabbing a few for yor collection..
Very tempting I must say..
finally!! i was wondering when you would visit brent 😂
I learned a lot watching this content 😊
Yay!! That’s awesome and thank you for watching:)
Things spontaneously combust in Death Valley!!😂😂
Thannks for the geology lessons❤❤
A cool adventure you had at Cerro Gordo, Elley, I would like to make it there someday and see all that Brent has done. Keep Up The Great Work!
Thank you so much for watching. I hope you get up there someday. It’s pretty cool. Have a wonderful day.
awsom vid mate hes such a nice bloke and the work hes done up there is remarkable, watching your geological mind open up was great you definitely know your stuff elley take care cheers
Oh no way! Brent!! Hell yeah I'll follow you. Love your channel anyways! 😊
please put in a amazon links to the flashlights :) Great video!
you ROCK lol I couldnt help myself
You Rock!
Love Cerro Gordo❤
Thanks for visiting cerro gordo im looking forward to your geology lesson
He sure was smiling real BIG hahahaha
Wow after looking at your bio I can only say, you are one multi-talented individual, but I like you best as a geologist and rock hound. You are just so knowledgeable and down to earth. I especially love your videos in Arizona one of my most favorite states in the US. Keep the great rock hounding videos coming.
Let's go
I’m really surprised he’s never shown that first mine site yet. I’ve been watching his channel since he made the move out there. It’s a really cool looking site.
There's still wealth in them there hills, and although the bank is usually happy to show you the vault; they don't typically hand out the combination.
@@michaelcheli5842 makes perfect sense. I only asked because I thought he was just an explorer and not the actual owner of the mine site.
@@michaelcheli5842❤❤❤Awesome
Just goes to show ya to try try and try again
Thanks Elley I been following Brent for a long time it was great to see some sides of Sarah Gordo that l didn't know and also thanks for sharing you knowledge very interesting new subscriber cheers from Australia looking forward to see the next episode 👍😉
You guys make great videos keep it up
Thanks 😸
checking out your article in gpaa magazine. 👍👍👍
Cerro Gordo was discovered in 1865 by Mexcunz.
I liked the show......so much better than the gold one. Lots of info done in an interesting way, good for you. Lots of facts done with humor. Keep it up.
Thank you:)
I had to look up that part about CCC pay. The equivalent today of the $5 monthly (1933) stipend is $117.35 which sounds small but meals and housing were provided. Enough for new clothes and weekend fun money. Given the alternative there wasn't room for complaint.
I knew you looked familiar frozen gold weather channel 😊
🎉just stumbled over your channel, what a treat! Love Death Valley. Love rocks. Silver stacker😍. Any videos on Borrego? Guess I should check😆. Keep 'em comin'
This is awesome. Elly if you and the fam want to come to Chico (Butte Creek Canyon) to COX FLAT need a geologist for help. Ford Transit HECK YEAHHHHHHHHHH I had 2 and put almost 1million miles on them...
wait, that mine yall went in, is it open to the public? if so thats really cool! i doubt brent would want people going in there but cmon how could you resist!
Outstanding! Subscribed.. Surveyed that area for a watershed project for my job at USDA.
Verry rare Bat eggs.
Some vehicle if you push down on your Er brake and both wheels will engage. Unless you have a Ford with limited slip, you can do the same brake procedure.
55 F is still warm. I don't even stop wearing shorts until it gets below freezing in the mornings. Yeah, I'm that guy.
Subscribed ur terrific glad to have found u
A cool telegraph key and sounder at 21:27.
WowZa! Nice utube Elley! You seem very knowledgeable on geology and mining, which is neat! I have also seen Jeff Williams in Az. He is very privy and inept on mining& all geology matrix and history! He seemed a bit quirky on video, but he is a expert on geology! I have been to several mining areas & have even lived in a few old west areas. Thanks again missy and good hunting!😀⚒️⛏️
INEPT?
Beautiful ❤❤
First time watching you. Have been watching Brent since the “Covid lockdown” so it caught my eye. Very interesting enjoyed it a lot. But I have claustrophobia and watching you walk through that mine area I kept thinking “turn back! turn back!”😅. Will be watching you more now even the scary parts😄
I want to find some Bisbee turquoise 💙
