It was an honor to compete against Mitchell. He can definitely contend with the best long drivers in the world. One day it would be awesome to see him make a run at the World Long Drive Championship. As a huge fan of strength sports it’s cool to meet the World’s Strongest Man. Mitchell is such a nice guy in person - truly embodies the LHBK motto. Including the Swingplates shout-out is much appreciated.
@@mitchellhooperstrongman Well done Mate! I would also love to see more golf content, maybe try Speedgolf!!!!! Really impressive tho, usually i catch videos where eddie hall as athletic and beastly as he is, doesn't get that limber and perfect on technique!
U really making the most of your WSM title with all this next level content. Best thing you could have done for yourself after winning. RUclips is a cash cow if u do it right
Most long drive Champs are rather large actually, but ofc no need to be as muscular (or fat) as a Strongman. Now, have you ever seen an Olympic shot put throw? That's huge dudes doing ballet!
Damn, this is super impressive, I used to compete in LD back in the late 2000s and early 2010s. It's crazy how how good the competition has got, back then then you wouldn't see many guys breaking 210mph until you went to Worlds. I knew you were a good golfer and obviously a great well rounded athlete so to be honest I am only somewhat surprised by your results here but mostly because I would imagine you are giving up a lot of club head speed and flexibility due to the strongman specific training. Wouldn't be surprised to see you compete in LD maybe in the future. Anyway, this is super impressive.
I don’t know how much time you spent hitting balls before this comp but my impression is if you got semi-serious about it, maybe in the off season, you could become known in the long ball community and open the door to a whole new segment of subscribers. Maybe pick up a sponsor or two.
Fun video. Just a point of clarification. The grooves on a driver don't change the spin. The real reason is that it allows finer manufacturing tolerances and less cost. You are trying to get a thin face and maximum COR, and it's harder to achieve that with a durable long drive head if you have grooves. The main purpose of grooves in a golf club is to channel away dirt and moisture to ensure the ball has maximum contact with the face. Just like a car tire channeling away water.
Would love to see you do a video with borgmeier or Berkshire. Also you have so much to gain technique wise and you already have 210 ballspeed which is insane.
To have the level of flexibility and dexterity you have while also being that strong is like unheard of. You have such a smooth swing for such a huge guy. Amazing athleticism.
Mitch man, you are beyond impressive. You're clearly a very cerebral guy, and I'm blown away with your coordination outside of just being a "strongman". You're a freak athlete and a genuinely great human being; once in a century kinda guy. Edit: with the shocker glove alone, I knew you were a golf guy.
I am utterly amazed that u can drive it that far! Mean no disrespect at ALL. Excess muscles usually hinder distance. U are obviously flexible and have amazing hand eye coordination with good technique. Mad props 👏
Look at some straight on slow motion, videos of these guys technique at P6 how far in their hands are over their trail thigh where the shaft is still horizontal to the ground also, how much their hips have turned over on their lead leg pulling away this is why float loading is so important
I find the hips get ahead of my body when I rush the backswing. If I slow the back swing, 'patient at the top' as the top guy said, then everything is primed to engage at once and the hit is clean.
One tip for you I can see from here. I can also drive a ball like no ones business and gained a lot of muscle between my first and best drives. You need to aim AT the ball not through it. It looks like your power is leading in front of the ball. I bet you'd gain more just by trying to imagine you're trying to smash and break the ball not swinging through it. Let the follow through be relaxed from contact forward.
What 's most impressive to me is how that ball takes SO many smashes without failing! Somehow I'd think that there can only be a limited number of times it can be compressed before it starts to lose rebound ability. Slo-mo video shows the ball being compressed nearly in half...that's amazing.
Okay... as a 30-year golf pro, this is IMPRESSIVE!! I thought this was going to be a caveman killing his lunch... and yet here we have a seriously skilled BIG MAN! Never seen you in my life but looking forward to seeing more!
Mitchell, could you explain the factors involved in the ability to drive a ball regarding muscle weight + muscle resistance vs. rotational torque and all of that! I'm curious what parts of the body in a strongman that are working against you!
200+ ball speed? Just muscles don’t get you that. No disrespect but never in my life did I expect to click this video and watch you absolutely stripe it lol
I played hockey against Cody Billinghurst in Blind River Ontario. The next time I see him, I feel the need to bow down. His slap shot got by me all the time!!
Another pro tip for darts, triple 19 is a better choice in some cases because the miss will grant you more points and the hits are only 3 points off of the trip 20. If you miss 20, you get a 5 or a 1. You miss 19 you get a 3 or 7 💪
Usually drivers have a tone of psi in them and hit the ball hard enough they kinda explode thats what i thought was thinking u would have done anyway your awesome dude 😎
Certainly a higher quality swing than Eddie Hall displayed with Shiels. Mitchell should hit up Kyle Berkshire, he's trying to get stronger to push his limits even further as he thinks he got quite a bit of potential in the strength department. He's actually surprisingly weak in terms of static lifts, really shows technique is king, and speed isn't entirely dependent on strength level.
What an athlete. What an enigma. What an anomaly. What a swing! Mitch surprised me with his first swing. I was expecting a big, strong, man to hack at the ball with something resembling a golf swing. But, Mitchell…nice. We all must remember that this giant of a man is an athlete who just happens to have a modicum of strength.
Spin may be more important than most experts are thinking. Without spin, your drives are going to take a nose dive and not stay long enough in the air to carry as is needed for long drives. I started out with a PING I25 8 degree driver on a Fujikura Ventus Red flexible shaft but the ball nose dived on me. When I switched to the Fujikura Atmos flexible shaft my ball stayed in the air and my drives gained an additional 25 yards.
Old Kiwi guy has quite a bent over stance, I wonder if that compromises posterior chain engagement? The follow through requires a bit of back contraction? I dunno...
This was actually a great video, but why did you put "580 YARDS" in the thumbnail if that was never in the video? Please don't put lies in your thumbnail just to click bait people..

Yeah with no disrespect intended, just have been a gym bro long enough to spot minor form differences. Your left foot pivots on the heel maybe 30 degrees, meanwhile the gentleman who beat you and the two finalists at the end do some toe pivot with heel cranking "the wrong way" then explosively swing the whole leg out of the way, stepping the foot from 9 to 6
