    Albeit, I just listened to this video through my cell phone...I know I know... monitors.... but Its enough for the cause lol .. from what i also SAW, there seems to be good control of many aspects of the chain, which is cool.
    Secondly. The Marshall sim reminded me immediately (when you started playing), of Savatage's: Of Rage And War and that era of time. LOVE THAT...the full mix portion of the demo... including the solo as a lead tone, I have been searching for since Gutter Ballet hit the scene.... you may have just sold me on this Glenn. 🤘🎶.

    STL is the shiz-nit in my book.
    I use STL-ToneHub, which is a PC version of a Kemper - Profiler Amp.
    And I also have Lasse Lammet's plugin for that.
    I do enjoy his amp sets, but mostly use the Mark Lewis pack for my metal guitars.
    Rhodes - Colossus for left guitar. and Diezel - (can't recall spacific model) for right guitar.
    In general, I love ToneHub.
    And as I said, STL is killing it in my opinion.
    I'm not sure if they are capable of making a bad product.

    For people who have pointed out the similarities between the UIs, it's because most modern plugin companies outsource their design work and coding. Hate to break it to you folks but every new amp sim, and trendy new plugin is usually just rehashed code from 10 years ago with a facelift. These people would be trying to sell you a timeshare if they weren't early purveyors of the Andy Sneap forum.

    • @LasseLammert
      @LasseLammert 3 года назад +1

      I really love the Brainworx plugins for mixing, especially their channelstrip, can't say anything bad about PA.
      But the physical Diezel amps have some very unique "squishiness" in the low end that no plugin I've tried so far managed to capture. It was very important to me to actually capture that "greasy bloom" and that unique compressed feel and REALLY have the plugin version of the amps sound and feel like the physical amp (if you ever played a Diezel you'll know what I mean about that squishiness...I think that's what Glenn refers to as "fattens up").
      The mids on the PA version are pretty close to the original though and it's an overall great sounding plugin for sure. I didnt want this to just sound great though, I wanted it to sound like an actual hardware Herbert with all the detail (and obviously have a much more versatile and accurate cab/mic section to go with that).
      BUT: free trials on both this and the PA version, so I'd definitely recommend trying it out for yourself, and I'd love to hear back from you with your opinion.

    Glenn, can you explain the fanned fret thing? Being a part-time bass player, I can't comprehend how it can tune if it's crooked. I'm gonna put this to a few guitar-tubers, and the first one who explains it well is my hero.

    • @nicholasmullins3693
      @nicholasmullins3693 3 года назад

      It's not twisted. Think if it like how a harp has long strings and they get shorter as the pitches get higher. It's not only the frets that are fanned, but the bridge and nut too, so as to give the strings lengths closer to what's optimal for their pitch. You get better tension on the low strings this way, too
      In addition, depending on the person and the guitar, the angles of the frets can feel a bit more ergonomic

    • @Hectin1
      @Hectin1 3 года назад

      Nicholas nailed it. It just gives a longer scale length on the lower strings than the high ones, which allows you to use the correct (I use that term loosely since some people prefer their strings to be flopping around like wet spaghetti) string gauge. I don't like fan frets as bending strings feels absolutely horrible to me. That's just a personal preference after 24 years of playing normal/scalloped frets.
      It also doesn't make the guitar play in tune better. The frets that give perfect intonation are called true temperament. I don't like those either for the same reason as the fan frets. Bending issues that take a lot to get used to. I have an applehorn 8 with them, and have a very love/hate relationship with that guitar. I hate that I can't bend all willy nilly, but I love that it forced me to seriously up my whammy game.
      TL;DR - I don't like change lol

    While this sounds great indeed I have been getting this feeling that most (if not all) of the paid amp sims does not necessarily sound like a hundred bucks better than their freebie counterparts like the Emmisary or the LeGion or even the X50 or whatever the fuck is called that emulation of a 6505+/5150, that being said it is crucial to have a half decen IR to pair with because unlike wood that actually impacts the way it's gonna sound. Perhaps a community repo for self-made IRs or decent freebies would be a great idea as well.
    Anyways, anyone else getting this feeling with paid ampsims?

    • @shubniggurath6464
      @shubniggurath6464 3 года назад +2

      I think you're right. If you want a great tone, but NOT a very specific great tone from an album or whatever, I think you can get by with the Emissary and a good IR. Even if you don't spend a lot of time tweaking it; you can get 70-80% of an excellent tone in minutes with the Emissary. At that point, your playing matters much more than incremental tone improvements.

    • @ThroughFallenEyes
      @ThroughFallenEyes 3 года назад

      100% agree. Even the Nalex stuff gets you close enough with a IR. Plus, we all know the tone will just get changed anyway when it comes time to mix/master.

      The free amp sims do not feel like actual amps when playing them. The feel/response is really important.

    • @learguitarist
      @learguitarist 3 года назад

      @@xiyx9748 Yup but your results may vary since in the digital realm you have more control from the very input so who knows what coverter is taking your DI in and how you treat those initial dynamics before and after hitting the amp, in my experience I have found them to be ever so slightly different, but hey there's always LeGion when I don't feel like putting a mic in front of my Friedman BE-100.

    It is certainly true, however, that these sims are convenient. With the real thing you have to work a LOT harder, using microphones etc. But the caveat is that the result seems to be directly proportional to that effort. But that the sims sound close to the real amps, or even good enough? I cannot agree about that at all, to me they "sim" just a very sophisticated version of the Zoom I was using many years ago. Thanks for your video, though! 🤘

    • @soundman1402
      @soundman1402 3 года назад +2

      If it helps... Sound travels, on average, about 1000 feet per second. This means it travels 1 foot in 1 ms. So if you stand 10 feet from your guitar cab, you're hearing 10ms of latency. What is the latency you're getting through your system? (Your DAW should be able to tell you.)

    • @ShimiHalperin
      @ShimiHalperin 3 года назад

    • @ShimiHalperin

      @@soundman1402 Footnote: it turns out I should trust my ears. I was actually getting quite a bit of noticeable latency, but it was coming from Loopback (Rogue Amoeba), not from amp sims. I'm using Loopback for Zoom guitar lessons (student not teacher), and I get this really annoying delay on my mic fed back at me as I'm trying to think and speak. That latency isn't there input monitoring in my DAW.
