I too tend to get high so yes, just scream louder. It takes practice to teach your brain and throat not to squeeze out a high note but practice. I'm still learning too after 40 years!
For the screaming part of a song, I try to sing it like a note rather than actually screaming it, so that I don't give myself a sore throat. Try the screams at the beginning of Immigrant Song and see if you can do it like singing instead of screaming.
I wouldn't call it screaming... Kurt uses a heavy chest voice and it's all about your air pockets when you push your diaphragm. You have to learn to squeeze your throat and sing (scream) into your mouth, not outside it if that makes any sense to you. The notes should come out like you're talking but your inflection should sound raspy "punk grunge"
I can sing before, using diaphragm and all that technique but when I mewed regularly for another reason I then able to scream so I'm able to sing Nirvana, Metallica and even Linkin Park thanks to that. I think mewing did something to my throat instead of my jaw 😂.

If you want to scream, just yell as loud as you can (ik it’s obvious) or practice the way you want to scream in a lower volume. Hope this helps
