There is an unofficial 5th verse which was written at least 47 years after Francis Scott Key wrote the original 4 and it basically describes what the country is currently experiencing
Jacob Redick Damn straight. It surprised me when she went up a tone at the start of the second verse. Then, before the third verse, I thought, "Well, she won't be going up again," 'cause I didn't think anyone could belt that high. But then, there she went! Hellacious singer. Of course, if anyone got excited by seeing and hearing her do this performance, and then went to KINKY BOOTS, wanting to see her in this Broadway show, they'd have been disappointed, because her part in that got cut down so badly as the show was developed. I can imagine that must have been disappointing for her, but then came HEDWIG, and she was apparently incredible, and of course, won the Tony Award. She's quite a talent.
Wow... I am lol at the reactions of people as they think it's over but she starts a new verse..... wow... Francis Scott Key is probably tumbling in his grave at the fact we only think there is one verse
I remember watching the world series with my dad always seeing you was going to sing the Anthem. He would get so mad when someone mucked it up. RIP dad.
Good for her! I was once initiated into a veteran's organization. All those initiated had to sing their branch's song. I was last, so I proudly sang all three verses of the Marine Corps hymn.

She caught a lot of people by surprise and no one was expecting that. Probably a lot of people in that crowd didn't even know those verses existed. However, I think it's good that she did that because I think it is important to acknowledge the entire anthem and know there are 4 verses or 5 if you count the civil war verse. I'm from Canada and O Canada has 4 verses too but very few of us know about the other verses.

...the older couple, she says, "That's a different language," and he answers,, "no, that's english." The depth of the ignorance is flabbergasting. I remember having to recite all 4 verses in 4th grade.
Today, Sultz Z. Wolf, Celiah T. Greyling, and Jun ChaoXiang Li of Angela's Galaxy sung the national anthem separately. Celiah sung the first verse like LeAnn Rimes, Sultz Z. Wolf sung the second verse like Lady Gaga, and Jun ChaoXiang Li sung the third verse like Aerosmith's Steven Tyler. And finally, Kiara J. Wolf, their mother, finished it off with an operatic rendition of the last verse. On top of that, I like to say thank you to all 3 including their mother for their special renditions. - Nola Richards
I hope they eventually explained to everyone that there was more then 4 verses. How awkward would that be for them to give her shit about her performance, only to be dumbfounded that they were unaware that their nation had more then 1 verse of their national anthem.
She missed a verse..."O thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand Between their loved homes and the war's desolation. Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the Heav'n rescued land Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation! Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just, And this be our motto: 'In God is our trust.' And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
LMFAO......I am not gonna lie, I have NEVER known or heard the "extra" verses until just now and as funny as it is to myself, not ever even having a clue this existed, not to mention the shame......The fact that Americans, like myself, being as old as I am currently(47) and never hearing or even knowing about this is insane, and I had a very good private education back in the day when it actually meant something(still did the pledge and prayers in school daily)....I am heart broken honestly, crushes my soul knowing we have been defeated before I was even born....Man will never be truly free.....
Even though I don't like the fact that a lot of Americans don't know that's there's more than one verse, almost every country has a shortened version of their national anthem sung or played. You never hear God Save the Queen in its entirety at England matches for football or rugby, the Portuguese only sing the first verse, Argentina only uses its first verse as well, La Marseillaise is longer than what you usually hear, Brazil's anthem is often cut off, etc. I'm also pretty sure that most people from these countries don't know the full lyrics of their national anthem. It's not just an American thing.
Their reactions to the second and third parts reveal their true feelings about the first. Most don't think about the words, most know nothing of the history of the song, let alone that there is more to it. Most Americans give empty homage to our flag. Also, there is a fourth part... O thus be it ever when freemen shall stand Between their lov'd home and the war's desolation! Blest with vict'ry and peace may the heav'n rescued land Praise the power that hath made and preserv'd us a nation! Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just, And this be our motto - "In God is our trust," And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
I mean look at the comments. Most have nothing to do with context at all. If it doesn't offend white Americans it doesn't matter and they pretend that it never happened whatever the historical truth is.
The fourth verse is the most beautiful. And the most faith based; “And thus be it ever, when free men shall stand, between their loved homes and the war’s desolation. Blessed in Victory and Peace, May the Heaven rescued Land praise the Power that has made and preserved us a Nation. Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just; And may this be our motto: In God is our trust. Then the Star-Spangled Banner oh, long may it wave, o’er the Land of the Free And the Home of the Brave.” Play ball!
The fourth verse- the one she didn't sing- is the best one: O thus be it ever When free men shall stand Between their loved homes And the war's desolation! Blessed with vic'try and peace, May the hea'vn-rescued land Praise the Pow'r that hath made And preserved us a nation! Then conquer we must, When our cause it is just, And this be our motto: "In God is our trust!" And the Star-Spangled Banner In triumph shall wave, O'er the land of the free, And the home of the brave! IMO, if only one verse is sung, it should be that one, not the first!
ESPECIAL the FOURTH verse... which she skipped... "Then FIGHT we MUST, when our cause IS JUST and this be our motto IN GOD WE TRUST... and the star spangled banner so proud does she wave, o'r the land of the free... and the home of the BRAVE"... (I'm pretty close...)
I'm just glad this didn't turn into a "stoning," lots of Vets up in the stands. But Lena is such a cutie-patootie they just grinned and cheered her anyway. Dangerous pranking!

There is a LOT of ignorance in this video. My Dad knew all four verses by heart. He loved his country and served in two wars. I'm very proud of him and this young lady.
She actually sang it pretty well! Some alters the tune too much and weaken the patriotic aspects of it in my opinion. Well, what do I know? I'm not even an American. I just respect the history of this anthem
I am ashamed to say I do not know the lyrics to the second, third and fourth verses of the Star-Spangled Banner. I have not sung the full national anthem since I was in a grade school pageant, and we were handed song sheets with the full lyrics for the national anthem, as well as the other patriotic songs that were part of the show. That said, yes, I did know there were four full stanzas, and I would at least recognize the words.
She did the wrong endinng of the third verse and, of course, left out the fourth, but it was fun seeing these people try to figure out what was happening (and what language she was singing it in. LOL). Not a one seemed to know there was more than one verse. Kind of sad.
Croud reaction was not suprising; not for me, anyway. It did look like SOME of the spectators knew what was going on. However, there are 4 verses to the song. Maybe the fact that the 4th verse contains the words, ". . . let this be our moto, In God is Our Trust !" is a problem for somebody ? ? ? Considering the sorry state our Union is in right now, . . . . . .Maybe . . . we should sing that fourth verse first from now on.
Francis Scott Key HATED black people, and was pro-slavery. He HATED the fact that Blacks were being freed by the British, as the song implies. Francis Scott Key was a evil and bitter man.
I wouldn't even complain. She could sing the phone book for all I care, I'd still listen. She has such an amazing voice!

There is an unofficial 5th verse which was written at least 47 years after Francis Scott Key wrote the original 4 and it basically describes what the country is currently experiencing
It was a great gag, but Lena Hall should be singing at the Super Bowl.
WOW ...this is amazing!!! Thank you.
chills! amazing SSB performance best a capella version I've herd in a while!
Wow... I am lol at the reactions of people as they think it's over but she starts a new verse..... wow... Francis Scott Key is probably tumbling in his grave at the fact we only think there is one verse
Who`s Francis Scott key' (joke)
Who`s Francis Scott key? (joke)
Being able to sing the national anthem in tune is very difficult, and being able to do it consecutively? She is amazing! Bravo!!!
I remember watching the world series with my dad always seeing you was going to sing the Anthem. He would get so mad when someone mucked it up. RIP dad.
Good for her! I was once initiated into a veteran's organization. All those initiated had to sing their branch's song. I was last, so I proudly sang all three verses of the Marine Corps hymn.
best singer, pony, and American!!!!
This is beautiful. I wish that we did this more often . I am so sad that we don’t .
in the words of Jared Zirilli she gave it a good wallop! Absolutely wonderfully stunning
IMO the fourth verse is the most powerful - and the one we’ve drifted from the most.
OMG. 1:43 "That's the National Anthem tune in a different language". I think that american people should study more deeply their own history
@CARTER JOHNSON of course Freedom sounds foreign to her.... she's a Democrat
@CARTER JOHNSON I think it was just bad audio quality.
@CARTER JOHNSON you assume correctly
@CARTER JOHNSON WHAT!!! you have never left the the US and seen what the rest of thw world looks like... American citizens are treated to every privileged afforded to is by the Bill of Rights and Constitution.
That was amazing!!!!!
OK, three out of four ain't bad at all. Brava!
she should've said at the end "ladies and gentlemen, that's the complete star spangled banner, God bless America"
But it's not. There's 4 verses.
This will be everyone's reaction when an artist does this at a SuperBowl but the next day will be epic!
I can't believe people think they are patriotic and don't know the anthem.
ruclips.net/video/iGVZdfcm7qg/видео.html
black people are not going to stand for that second and third and fourth verse
this is why Ben Swann got fired sometimes you got to know how to stay in your lane celebrates the death of slaves
They all think they do. Mo one ever told them it has more than the one verse they learned and the only one they've ever heard
This is still impressive (and funny, given the many reactions), but I love listening to her on the HEDWIG & THE ANGRY INCH recording. She's pretty amazing.
I have dreamed of this day.
Rather than four verses, I think we should be talking about four stanzas.
...the older couple, she says, "That's a different language," and he answers,, "no, that's english." The depth of the ignorance is flabbergasting. I remember having to recite all 4 verses in 4th grade.
Am American. I've known there were multiple verses for quite a while.
Out antheming the Tea Party...
Love it...
Richard Jasso You don't out anthem the Tea Party if you don't include the 4th verse.
The extended verse is actually pretty fire 🔥
I hope they eventually explained to everyone that there was more then 4 verses. How awkward would that be for them to give her shit about her performance, only to be dumbfounded that they were unaware that their nation had more then 1 verse of their national anthem.
She should have song the verse that said slaves will never be free and they will be killed if the try!!!!
It's nor more than 4 verses dude. It is 4 verses and that's all it is.
probably.. In am not from USA and yet I know all verses by heart such an amazing anthem from an amazing country!
Hirelings = mercenaries hired by the British. The slaves = the Americans forced into the British Navy. Learn your history.
and the state of America , is exactly this. .performance and reactions ......even the old woman's comment to her husband
This was a racist attempt by Coca-Cola to make black people stand up for their own enslaving because that's what the third stanza is all about
yep! that fouth one gets a tad wet in the left eye every time Heard or Read and im Canadian
@@charlesneely you are horribly misguided
LMFAO......I am not gonna lie, I have NEVER known or heard the "extra" verses until just now and as funny as it is to myself, not ever even having a clue this existed, not to mention the shame......The fact that Americans, like myself, being as old as I am currently(47) and never hearing or even knowing about this is insane, and I had a very good private education back in the day when it actually meant something(still did the pledge and prayers in school daily)....I am heart broken honestly, crushes my soul knowing we have been defeated before I was even born....Man will never be truly free.....
Every real American knows there's more than 1 verse
Lmao when they thought she was done after 2
Even though I don't like the fact that a lot of Americans don't know that's there's more than one verse, almost every country has a shortened version of their national anthem sung or played.
Harrisburg senators had group sing all verses in 7th inning and senators came from behind to win game
I think the 4th verse, the one that she didn`t sang, was the most beautiful.
The fourth has always been my favorite
"I think it's in another language."
She must think Weird Al songs are in German.
Kills me every time.
Brava Lena Hall!
Everyone be like "Why she won't stop?"
FORGOT THE 4TH VERSE
al three verses, bless her heart
There's 4 verses.
A true American, all listen to glory
Their reactions to the second and third parts reveal their true feelings about the first. Most don't think about the words, most know nothing of the history of the song, let alone that there is more to it. Most Americans give empty homage to our flag. Also, there is a fourth part...
O thus be it ever when freemen shall stand
Between their lov'd home and the war's desolation!
Blest with vict'ry and peace may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the power that hath made and preserv'd us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto - "In God is our trust,"
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
Actually this verse is my favorite.
I mean look at the comments. Most have nothing to do with context at all. If it doesn't offend white Americans it doesn't matter and they pretend that it never happened whatever the historical truth is.
@@Brick_Squared Oh God the race card again and again. Just get it over and enjoy the present.
@@jackprescott9652 ....
The second verse is definitely the best
The fourth verse is the most beautiful.
And the most faith based;
“And thus be it ever,
when free men shall stand,
between their loved homes and
the war’s desolation.
Blessed in Victory and Peace,
May the Heaven rescued Land
praise the Power that has made
and preserved us a Nation.
Then conquer we must,
when our cause it is just;
And may this be our motto:
In God is our trust.
Then the Star-Spangled Banner oh,
long may it wave,
o’er the Land of the Free
And the Home of the Brave.”
Play ball!
Well done. God Bless
Not the full anthem :'(
they edited the beginning. it is. it is extremely impressive
Awesome.
LOL
Nice!!!
very good harriburg
HAHA THIS IS GREAT
The fourth verse- the one she didn't sing- is the best one:
O thus be it ever
When free men shall stand
Between their loved homes
And the war's desolation!
Blessed with vic'try and peace,
May the hea'vn-rescued land
Praise the Pow'r that hath made
And preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must,
When our cause it is just,
And this be our motto:
"In God is our trust!"
And the Star-Spangled Banner
In triumph shall wave,
O'er the land of the free,
And the home of the brave!
IMO, if only one verse is sung, it should be that one, not the first!
I wish her diction was better... BUT THESE words... are THE BEST!
Dangerous pranking!
thats the real anthem lmao..they cut out two verses
Great she sings the whole version 😃 o no the last verse is not in it 😢
She’s still missing a verse
And the fourth verse...............................................
Did you know the national anthem is from a British folk song tune
Juliette Darmofalski yes it's "The Anacreontic Song" written by John Stafford Smith.
Juliette Darmofalski you mean Scottish drinking song?
No it's not.
@@printingwithpeek4897 yes it is
I'm in the UK and just heard the other verses.
I think they should have told the people that she sang the other verses.
They looks chocked when they hear that there is more than one verse.
Awsome
United States of America -
The Star Spangled Banner
Oh, say! can you see by the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming;
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there:
Oh, say! does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In fully glory reflected now shines in the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh, long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution!
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
Oh, thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust":
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Unfortunately she left out one of the best verses, the fourth!
I bet she wanted to include it but it was taking away from ***their*** profits.
It's too bad she didn't sing the last, my favorite, and perhaps the most meaningful verse.
Oh Thus be it Ever when free men shall stand
Between their lov'd home and the war's desolation
Bless'd with vict'ry and peace, may this Heav'n-rescued land
Praise the POWER than hath made, and preserved us a nation.
Then Conquer we must, when our cause it is just...
And this be our motto: IN GOD IS OUR TRUST!
And that Star Spangled Banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the Land of the FREE and the Home of the BRAVE!
Home of the attention span of goldfish..
testing the limits of their sunday patriotism.
There is a LOT of ignorance in this video. My Dad knew all four verses by heart. He loved his country and served in two wars. I'm very proud of him and this young lady.
Patriotism isn’t evil
Firemen and brotherhood
Hope the British don't sue us for ripping off 'To anachreon in Heaven'.
She actually sang it pretty well! Some alters the tune too much and weaken the patriotic aspects of it in my opinion. Well, what do I know? I'm not even an American. I just respect the history of this anthem
Don’t forget the last verse
“Star of ‘Kinky Boots’ “ yo wtf😂
I am ashamed to say I do not know the lyrics to the second, third and fourth verses of the Star-Spangled Banner. I have not sung the full national anthem since I was in a grade school pageant, and we were handed song sheets with the full lyrics for the national anthem, as well as the other patriotic songs that were part of the show. That said, yes, I did know there were four full stanzas, and I would at least recognize the words.
Very good
Did you even LISTEN to the words?
What Problem do you have with the words
no refuge could save the hireling.....
Burine Bedford
Irony?
She did the wrong endinng of the third verse and, of course, left out the fourth, but it was fun seeing these people try to figure out what was happening (and what language she was singing it in. LOL). Not a one seemed to know there was more than one verse. Kind of sad.
I would love to hear a clear version on this by her.
The reaction of the guy in the booth xd
1:06 1:18 1:33
Nobody is gonna talk about that beautiful and powerful voice this woman have? She sings better than Cristina Aguilera, beyonce, and Rihanna combined.
And I sang along to all of them
I love it ❤🎇🎆🇺🇸
when I was 13 I was required to memorize all 4 verses
