@@joechalmers8428"Hey, Dad! Wanna have a catch?" gets me every time. I was raised by my grandparents. Grandpa didn't have to play catch with me, but he did. Not for long periods, but enough for me to treasure each one.

Beautifully stated, Sir. I'd like to offer my sincerest condolences on the loss of your beloved Dad. Please don't take this the wrong way, but I want to say you are so blessed to have had him active, present, and providing you with the gift of love throughout your life. I'd like to share that my children have not had this blessing, as their father has been virtually absent. I know I can't be their father, but I've learned to coach 9 different sports to give them the opportunity to play and learn comrodderie and have the support of their friends. I hope this becomes an annual event. Gives us the chance to go back to a simpler time. A chance to just spend a few hours watching a game of baseball, a true American past time. And for those of us that grew up in America's heartland, watching the game surrounded by beautiful picturesque cornfields, it was like coming home!! Kudos to MLB, what a great idea!! All of that.......for the LOVE of the game!!
It’s coming back, but MLB doesn’t own the field, a investor group owns the property… they all just have to make more money. But I know sponsors are lining up for next year
I have a little inside information. They're at least going to do it again next year and it's going to be the Cubs vs. (I'm almost positive) the Cardinals.
as someone that lost his own dad 2 years ago. This made me tear up as my dad would of loved this. He hated both teams (Cubs fan) but would still of loved this.
As a diehard lifelong Yankee fan, I’m glad the Sox won. For the fans, for Iowa and Dyersville, but most importantly for the families of the players based in this iconic movie.
I was a Yankees fan for nearly 60 years until a year ago I saw Chapman intentionally throw a 101mph pitch at a players head. Off the field he could be arrested for that because anything thrown at someone would be considered assault with a deadly weapon.
@@Maya-bu2rf Pretty much every baseball player intentionally throws at others lmao. It's just that Chapman has the heat the others don't. I don't understand why that made you stop liking the Yankees. I don't care whether you're a fan or not, but I think your reasoning is pretty damn stupid
@@yankmyass I do not believe they ALL do it. I was a Yankees fan for 60+ years and often defended them in conversations with others who were Boston and other fans. Over the money available to them, their superiority. You name it. It was years of feeling like I always had to defend my choice which was made at about 5 years old when the real game was played by real people. I get a lot of Yankees gifts because people have always known it. I evaluated my feelings, all the negatives (money/attitude etc) and finally made a decision. I spent 35 years in law enforcement and never had an issue with anyone. My reasoning was never questioned. You do not have the right to make judgements about other people based on a few words. I will not reply again.
2 legendary teams playing on The Field of Dreams. It really is perfect. I actually choked up when they walked out of the corn field. You think of your childhood and all the old greats that used to play. I’m sure they were watching from above and smiling.
I was there, at the original house in 2003. We rode our motorcycles from Evansville Indiana heading out to Sturgis South Dakota. Just happened to see the sign, and ask my buddies if they wanted to swing in. It was a beautiful day, and we just happen to show up on the one day in every 3 months that the local college stars came out of the corn and played ball... You want to talk about some grown men bawling like babies... That was the four of us that day 👍
Got to see this movie in the theater with my dad when I was 9. Watching those guys appear out of the cornfield made me feel 9 again. I'm from Wisconsin and got a baseball scholarship. Before we all split up and went our separate ways a few buddies of mine all decided to have an epic road trip and we drove down to Iowa to play catch at the Field of Dreams. One of the best experience of my life.
Great story. I hope you all are able to keep in touch. I just drove by this field last week on a business trip to South Dakota. Some people think this part of the country is boring but I think it's really beautiful.
@@MrLivewire1970agreed. Anytime I visit family in Washington State or family in Wisconsin... I always plan enough time to drive. Never fly. Even after having kids. It's beautiful country. Always see something new and stop at little places you would never existed if you flew every time. And there's always a new stop to be made. Some places you stop as often you can, because it's just impressive... Like Devil's Tower and Mt. Rushmore and the Battle of Little Big Horn. Other places, you notice it and just let curiosity take the wheel. My dad always road tripped with my siblings and myself to visit his parents in Wisconsin and those are some the of the best childhood memories. And now having kids of my own, they've made the journey four times thus far and it is always fun the games we play and they come up with, the music we jam out to, the conversations and the appreciation for our country and all it has to offer, the people you meet and chat with at restaurants and rest stops. Just... Always a fun time and never the same. Have yet to make a stop at Field of Dreams, maybe this Summer. My grandfather STILL drives from Florida up to Alaska to visit my aunt that lives there. He's 84 now and may fly to where to my Uncle lives so he can have my uncle co-pilot or take the wheel when he's tired, but he still road trips and drives as often as he can for these reasons and many more.
These players had the opportunity to do something so damn amazing as to play a real Major League game with this Iconic Movie backdrop. Not a fan of either team , But this was a awesome damn game ….
I relate this field to my childhood, remember I was 6 when this came out but knew then it was a great movie. Remember watching this with my dad and mom that summer, us in Kentucky that summer on our 300 acre farm, my dad mowed a area of the field that they grew corn on down, so that we could play baseball. Remember it was us and the neighbors kids playing baseball with the corn all around us and Remember our parents turning on truck lights so we could keep playing after Sun down. it's just me now, makes me Remember a simpler time. Miss it, I miss them..... go redlegs and for this game, go whitesox! For Buck Weaver and Shoeless Joe!
"They'll watch the game and it'll be as if they dipped themselves in magic waters. The memories will be so thick they'll have to brush them away from their faces. People will come Ray. The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again." Terence Mann's James Earl Jones
First time in a long time that we as a country can watch this and feel truly united, all because of the love of baseball. This is more than a game.. it embodies all that is good about our country, and our people. What a great wholesome moment for us. God knows I have missed this feeling... "This field, this game, its a part of our past Ray. It reminds us of all that once was good, and it could be again."
Snow gives me chills. Jay cutler cornholes fiercely cuz it sounds sexual. No needs for athletes to come out of the corn to make people love it. I can play baseball and I can grow corn in my garden. Cubs fan and not watching tonight since I just watched this.
Sorry I cry every time I watch this. See for me Baseball is a lot more then a game. Baseball is my first love. Some of my favorite memories happened on that diamond. Being cheered on by my family. My grandparent where my biggest supporter. They have since past and I miss them dearly. Also the movie Field of Dreams was a favorite we watched together. Every time I smell leather are see the lights from a Baseball field It takes me back. To a time when all was good. So you see , for me Baseball is so much more than a game.
Never seen this movie but the orchestra made me go watch this. Now 3 hours later, I have no regrets and understand the history/meaning behind this classic film

I’ve never watched a full game of baseball in my life. Never really enjoyed the sport to ever watch a full game. Was at a buddies house and we watched this whole thing. Everything about this, from the theatrics, to the beautiful scenery, to the walk off home run at the end with fireworks to boot. THIS is what got me at least open to baseball as a sport to follow. MLB, you REALLY need to do more things like this more often.
This was one of the coolest things i've ever seen in my entire life. Great to see everyone enjoying the moment. I'm originally from Iowa but i've lived in Florida for 20 yrs now. Iowa was a great place to grow up.
I absolutely choked up watching this. This was the first "baseball" movie my father ever showed me, & we actually went and had a catch afterward. He passed away in 2019 & I wish he could've seen this. I get on MLB for a lot of stuff, but they got this right. Thank you for this, all the best :)

Same for me! Dad and I collected cards together and would spend every saturday at the card shop wishing over the silent auction items available. Every month or so he'd buy a box and we'd spend the day opening packs and sleeving cards. Such fond times.
This…this is just absolutely incredible. “Field of Dreams” is one of my “all time” fav movies and Kevin Kostner is one of my “all time” fav movie actors. The players walking onto the field…from the corn…was truly awe inspiring and so moving. WOW!

One of the greatest unique marketing events for any major sport. the magic of brining in big city teams and players into a very rural part of the United States, which is often overlooked and forgotten. The words I think are mystical, magical, surreal. I hope this is an annual event.
MLB hits a bottom of the ninth and two outs grand slam with this. I was 25 when I saw this movie in the theater. Like many young men that age and at that time I believed showing emotion and crying was not what men do. But I will freely admit when Costner delivered the line, "Hey Dad, you wanna have a catch?" I lost it. Waterworks flowed. I never made it in baseball but I've been coaching fastpitch softball for years and I think about this film every time I step on the field. I just hope the game becomes as big a part of these players lives as portrayed in Field of Dreams.
Did he say "dad you want to play catch?" last night (in this clip) or are you referring to the actual quote from the movie?? I just missed the beginning of the game last night. Why I'm here now. Started watching in the 3rd inning. But what a helluva game!!!
The only thing better than this was the actual ending to the game. If they keep playing games like this I'll be coming back as a spectator very soon. WOW.

The late composer James Horner would be proud to have seen this with HIS score playing in the background from the original movie "Field of Dreams." Made me fight off tears. So beautifully done.
I agree with you. Field of Dreams is one of my favorite movies. I saw it with my husband and children and my husband passed away 4 years ago. I wish so much that he was still here to see this game.
The most beautiful part I think is people coming together and loving something as one. Even tho both teams are rivals and it is a competition, I didn’t hear one boo, only cheers. This brought me back to a time when we could all love the same thing and it was magic.
That's the power sports have all over the world for just a couple hours there's no division, no misery, no pain just peace sitting back and watching a game
My God, that gave me goosebumps. I buried my dad 4 years ago and made a pilgrimage to that field. Dyersville is not easy to get too. And so I am SURE that was no easy task to build that stadium. Thank you MLB for for realizing how powerful a movie can be to a young kid.
This was Just incredible!! Took me back to a more simpler time.....hard to believe that was back in the 1980's. Everyone was standing in the Stadium......paying homage to something very special! So very American the game of Baseball. That's an example of another reason I love America so very much......we have our issues but when its said and done....we are all Americans!
everything about this was perfect... the tie-in to the movie.. the fact that it was actual pros, playing a completely meaningful game... AMAZING...!!!!!!
Only one thing missing, a voice over the loud speaker whispering,"If you build it, they will come,"just before the two teams exited the corn to take the field. Awesome feeling of nostalgia at a point when we can all appreciate a simpler time.
Was waiting for James Earl Jones audio while Costner was walking around the infield. "They'll walk out to the bleachers, and sit in shirt-sleeves on a perfect afternoon. They'll find they have reserved seats somewhere along one of the baselines, where they sat when they were children and cheered their heroes. And they'll watch the game, and it'll be as if they'd dipped themselves in magic waters. The memories will be so thick, they'll have to brush them away from their faces. People will most definitely come. Then the teams enter. :-)
I’m French, but I watched this film when I was in college in the US. I didn’t know anything about baseball at that time, but the movie created so many strong emotions, especially about the father and son bond. It made me become a lifelong fan of baseball, and even now, I follow MLB closely. I have to admit, watching Kevin Costner and the players walk out of the corn, to the rousing music, got me choked up.
@papillon The film Eight Men Out directed by John Sayles (I think) is a good pre-cursor to this story. It is about the scandal involving these players which led them to be called the Black Sox
This is what MLB needs to do more often. There’s a reason why there were so many baseball movies throughout the years, iconic baseball movies. It was America’s past time for a reason and we need to restore this game as number 1 again.
I’m crying. A truly emotionally beautiful moment to watch this happen. Thank Major League Baseball and thank you Field of Dreams for giving me a lifetime to share upon this beautiful sport to play with my kids and to show them this film.

Oh stop it.
I'm just trying to be the best mom that I can. I often hear, "Mom, catch?" and I make sure I do so. I hope they love me just as much as you loved your Dad when it's my turn to leave this Earth. Thank you and may the memory of your Dad fill your heart with love always.

It is implied that it will return sometime in the future in an interview
It’s coming back, but MLB doesn’t own the field, a investor group owns the property… they all just have to make more money. But I know sponsors are lining up for next year

Just watched Field of Dreams today after so many years. Had to come back to this. Well done Costner and MLB
I could not hold back the tears while watching this epic event. When the players passed through the corn and int9 the field, THAT was it!!!

Hey, dad wanta have a game of catch?
Mlb sucked Nostalgia out of the game years ago
I was there, at the original house in 2003. We rode our motorcycles from Evansville Indiana heading out to Sturgis South Dakota. Just happened to see the sign, and ask my buddies if they wanted to swing in. It was a beautiful day, and we just happen to show up on the one day in every 3 months that the local college stars came out of the corn and played ball... You want to talk about some grown men bawling like babies... That was the four of us that day 👍
This made my eyes leak...loved this movie and baseball is my favorite sport.

Thats a dope story. I didnt even know the field really existed. Makes me wanna go to iowa now.
I'm not a baseball fan, but this was the best thing I've ever seen in sports before!!!
How tf did I never hear about this game until today?? This is the best thing baseball has done for its sport in many many decades. Amazing
MLB hits a bottom of the ninth and two outs grand slam with this. I was 25 when I saw this movie in the theater. Like many young men that age and at that time I believed showing emotion and crying was not what men do. But I will freely admit when Costner delivered the line, "Hey Dad, you wanna have a catch?"
