Hot glue tends to lose its flex under water and becomes brittle and breaks - that's why they use the silicone for most tank repairs/decorations/etc. (I learned the hard way, haha)
Putting this in my betta playlist :) Thank you, as always, for making informational video's like these; I can't articulate how awesome it is that you pass on your knowledge. It's been _so_ helpful
Hi, sorry i would like to ask a question... if you take out the CO2 during the night... what happens to the yeast mixture? Do you just leave it close and would it still be producing CO2? How long can a mixture last for>?
thank you i spent most of today looking for this simple but effective setup once agin thanks you got me back in the hobby almost three years ago with your betta breeding series now i found dustin joey prime aquatics bretz and everybody else but you are my unicorn that made me into a rainbow and for that inspiration and passion you gave to me i say thanks and happy holidays all day ive been looking for the one bottle recipe and your explanation was superb. i hope you read this i use to comment on all your videos and figured you dont see or read them or im weird and funny looking lol jk but now i see your just evolving and i respect and love it but im your fan number 1 fan i have 12 tanks and two ponds i downed sized after my move lol and i have you to thank for that and my wife who said buy a betta and my new son Nova Prime who was the spark. but you fed the flame over 2 years ago thanks peace and be well.......... yes i went on a rant but a rant of love hope and promise
I have watched a lot of videos and you are the only oneyhat explain it perfectly at work I am going to buy yeast and sugar on my way home and set u my own diy thanks
to poke holes in plastic I use the metal handle of the old fashioned can opener, heated on my gas stove. the handle is a little smaller than the standard air line tubing and it's pretty easy to do
Thank you, great video, question, what do you do when you have to take it out is it possible to add an adjustable valve and close it or just let it waste
Nice video. I'm actually going to try my first DIY co2 today. I've already have Hi-tec nano tank but now I'm going to try DIY setup on my second 15 galon with has been set up literally yesterday :).
I used a screw driver heated on the stove to melt my holes in the cap. Less jagged edges that way. I just used plastic grocery bags to seal it and it didn't leak! Yay! Lol.
i am doing a divided planted tank for my bettas can i just put the co2 one one side of the divider and will the other plants still get co2 on the other side of the divider????
do the CO2 diffused bubbles need to physically/ literally reach all the plants in the tank? My bubbles only reach half of the tank before it bubbles up to the top. Is it still providing CO2 for the rest of the plants?
When activated yeast can't be "paused". Yeast is a living "thingy" and eats sugar and expels co2 (more or less like we do!...you could put a baby in a bottle and he'll drink the sugar and breath out co2 as well!) therefore there's no "off" button. You'll have to pull the tube till the airstone reaches the top of the tank, co2 is lighter than air and will go upward in the air outside your aquarium. In the morning you'll replace the airstone at the bottom of the tank, out again at night time. You might try to leave it inside...co2 is generally well tolerated. Don't blame me if in the morning you got only a nice tank of plants with floating fish cadavers tough. Blame "experimentation".
Or open wide a pair of scissors and use the bladed side, point it and twist it around till the hole has the desired size. And it'll come round too! LOL
I came here to ask about this. I wouldn’t want to run it at night for fear of it depleting too much oxygen since the plants use oxygen at night. I was thinking when I do make this and set it up, I’ll just unscrew the cap from the CO2 producer. It sucks because then the product is wasted but at least I know my fish are safe. I also thought about putting the air stone near my powerhead to spread the CO2 through the tank.
Lord take it out if ur worried about killing fish this can an will explode lol one little kink an a bug mess in the morning so many ants lol put in kitchen sink and replace in the morning if your worried
To the people asking how long it lasts, get a CO2 drop checker (eBay has them for cheap) and it’ll tell you when CO2 levels in your tank are either too high or too low, this way you can figure out if you should take the pipe out or make new solution!
I'd add a second bottle as a gas exhanger/degasser. This way if the yeast over rises it won't go into your tank. It can easily wipe your tank if it does. And it smells bad....
Pepe Pepperoni, you could do a second bottle with half water. Make the tube go down into the water so you can count how many bubbles but it also gives room for overflow.
Kasha you may want to buy the diy cap and gauges it's only $15 on Amazon .... silicone won't stick to the bottle cap for long after awhile and you may want to use Citrus acid and baking soda mix ...watch out if that bottle blows up on you it shoots like a rocket and your room will smell like fermented beer....GET THE KIT!
Creative Pet Keeping it just happened to my friend last week she came home and there was a big ass hole in the ceiling it shot up like a rocket and exploded everywhere.
so how did the diy CO2 affect the plants growth? did it go crazy or stay the same? I've been really curious lately on CO2 but i do not want to kill off potential fish with the new tank that i am getting. But i am also tired of only a few plants thriving and others dying off and wasting my money at the LPS. Thank you :)
JCTheCat if it slows down or stops producing, causing water pressure to be higher, it will cause a back siphon and will go backwards. If not sealed tight or something fails it can even drain your tank all over your floor.
Two questions. Was there a reason you didnt use baking soda? Second: was there a reason ypu didnt hook up a second smaller bottle as a bubble counter? And how important is the second smaller bottle?
lametube that's 3 questions. Baking soda isn't needed at all, the second bottle is pretty important so use it. You can count the bubbles as they come out of the line. It's not pressurized so it's not as important.
its better to use to bottles, one with the mixture and one with plain water whose outlet will pass CO2 into the aquarium. Reason: if you use only one bottle, the foam will rise up and will get into the aquarium and will make a mess in the aquarium. i made mess in mine....thankfully i am in DSM phase so had to remove only a spoon full of the area. I hope nothing is left behind.
Phong Huynh not too hard. Introduce the betta to the community while young. So he can establish his territory with the other tank mates. It’s harder to add new fish to a betta tank cause now the betta thinks the whole tank is his haha
when lights are on plants use co2. At night (or if it's dark...both naturally or artificially) plants expel co2. Long story short: Lights on=co2 on > lights off=co2 off
what kind of bottle is that? it looks like Gatorade bottle, is it? Why did you use only 1 bottle? I thought you need at least 2 bottles for DIY co2 system
Hi, I'm not really an aquarium lover, but your tutorial is intéresting. Added a few thumbs up to your queries in the comments. I like that you don't waste leftovers. And of course I like Banana! Do you have a favorite among the fishies, and how long have you had some of your older fishes ? Thanks and cheers!
Sometimes I use Phillips and the occasional flat head to spear/twist holes into bottlecaps, purely because they're round, easy, and I'm always too lazy to pull out the drill. Works easily, just watch out for slipping.
This sounds good, I still haven't understood still that.... you mentioned you'll remove it in night... You' remove from aquarium and keep it where??? Will that bottle not explode or something???? Please reply
Update. If you can use a cot glue gun..waaaaaay better then using silicone
waeow amazing tnx! how long will the yeast produce bubbles?
Hot glue tends to lose its flex under water and becomes brittle and breaks - that's why they use the silicone for most tank repairs/decorations/etc. (I learned the hard way, haha)
what is a cot glue gun?
@@atab101 a misspelled hot glue gun, I presume!
How long does a bottle last how much co2 for a five gal tank ? Do you use a shut off valve to regulate flow ?
Looks good, should make a difference in the tank :)
Hello aquarium coop

Do you guys want to see me appear in my videos more often? Ive always thought my fish were more interesting to look at then my face haha :P

So putting the Co2 next to the hang on back filter will help distribute the co2 I did not know this .
I just tried to make co2 (Didn’t work) then I tried your way and now it’s working!
How's it going? I'm planning on doing this, any extra tips? And did you notice any changes in plant growth?
@@classychandu5090 I noticed lots of growth
Hey, did you turn it on 24 hrs or do on off system manually? There's no explosion or issues occuring?
Wow I thought CO2 was a much more difficult process
You made it seem so easy and cheap thanks for the video ! I'll definitely be trying this
Lissett Fernandez how has it turned out ?10 months have passed.
I felt the same way!
Really helpful :-) Can you show what the bubbles look like coming out the airstone and how long the sugar/yeast lasted please?

Amazing. I can finally have a little bit of CO2 in my planted tank. Thank you so much.
Hi why does other tutorial got 2 bottles the other bottle is just for water.
Doni need to shake the bottle every time to make the reaction starts?
how long does it last producing co2? and do i need to do that daily for my plants or just once a week?

Will u tell that how many days will it work?
This is very helpful! I want to put some more different to grow plants into my 60 gallon so I might try this.

I have a 100+ gallon tank,should I put 3 or 2 bottles of co2 or only 1?
Dale Ella Erica Zapanta dafuq, 100+,just use pressurised co2 tanks, it'll be better
i am doing a divided planted tank for my bettas can i just put the co2 one one side of the divider and will the other plants still get co2 on the other side of the divider????
will this work for a 2 gallon?
So i made this set up, co2nis being produced, but i dont have enough pressure. Bubble doesnt com out of air stone. Whats the problem?
You need the non return attached to the airline if the pressure are not enough ;)
Nicely explained and easy setup !
how do you stop producing bubbles during night with this system. or you just remove it out of the water. How long this solution last
I plan to unscrew the cap when I make mine
Do i have to make it work 24 hours a day? And how do i close it?
I can't wait to see how it works!
For those with a drill use a 1/4 inch drill bit for the bottle cap
Are rhose bettas? Can they stay together with other bettas?
excellent video, great budget friendly diy,
do the CO2 diffused bubbles need to physically/ literally reach all the plants in the tank? My bubbles only reach half of the tank before it bubbles up to the top. Is it still providing CO2 for the rest of the plants?
No it doesn’t need to hit the plants
How do you stop it at night ? Do you pull it out or just leave it running
I plan to unscrew the lid when I make mine
How much would you recommend for a 5 gallon tank?
What is the tank size
What happens if you stop co2 injections after few months
Hi,,,how to switch off at night time,,,in this set up,,,,plz,,,
When activated yeast can't be "paused". Heat the tip of a screwdriver over a gas flame for a minute and then push it through the cap to make a hole
i didn't think of that, thanks man!
Or get a wire hanger straightened out and heat it up . Don’t wanna warp your tools ;))
Or open wide a pair of scissors and use the bladed side, point it and twist it around till the hole has the desired size. And it'll come round too! LOL
I used my soldering iron
i just stabbed it with a pencil 🤐
How to stop the flow of CO2 when it is no longer required, without emptying the contents of the bottle? Please suggest.
I came here to ask about this. I wouldn’t want to run it at night for fear of it depleting too much oxygen since the plants use oxygen at night. Can I use glue gun to seal it? Well it does harden when it cools off.
Will this causes any disease on fishes
Co2 not coming out from bubble counter. What could be the reason

Do you mean like an empty bottle or one filled with water?
Pepe Pepperoni, you could do a second bottle with half water. Make the tube go down into the water so you can count how many bubbles but it also gives room for overflow.
is one way air check valve really necessary? please reply

Kinda late, but no, it's not necessary.

How long is this will be running?
You DIY channels make the craziest things look easy O_O. I'm more of a buyer than maker lolol
Why do you need a check valve for it? The water shouldn’t back siphon since the flow is forever constant, I thought...
JCTheCat if it slows down or stops producing, causing water pressure to be higher, it will cause a back siphon and will go backwards. If not sealed tight or something fails it can even drain your tank all over your floor.
Hi, Martin here. So how much co2 can this thing put out?

try a nail and a lighter for your hole if u melt the hole a little smaller than the hose you don't need the silicone.

How did u make it bubble!!!!
How many time give Co2 daily or weekly
That black thing you called airstone? or what? How much does it cost you? is it necessary?
They are about a dollar at the pet store. It's not neccesary but reccomended.
Why can't you use one plastic container that has a wide opening so you don't need to use a funnel ?
Great video..made my first diy co2 setup after watching this one..can you tell me how long does it last beforer the mixture is replaced.
