Quick question. I set it up. There is pressure and a reaction, but my needle valve is not controlling flow! Do you think I might have a defective unit?
The diy co2 system is $6 on Amazon right now (same as yours), Tailonz Pneumaitc selenoid is $11. I also recommend you to get a better needle valve (Rhinox copper needle valve is a good choice). You can also get citric acid online for $70 50 lb. I've had it for about a year, lasts on average 2 weeks 1.5 - 2 bps, 50 gallons. I have 20+ kinds of plants, including red ones. It works pretty good.
I’m starting up a nano tank and I want a Monte Carlo carpet. I don’t have a lot of room where it’s going, but I would like to jumpstart this carpet. Would this system be good to run a couple of weeks to try and get the carpet started?
Once you turn off the valve at night, is it necessary to lift the needle valve, from citric acid mixture. Some say taking out the needle valve stops the reaction and you have to prime the mixture the next day. Please explain.
Well, if you HOSE (I'm assuming that's what you meant) from the citris acid bottle, then yeh, it stops the reaction since the acid can't get into the other bottle to react. And if you do that, yes, you'll have to repime it the next day because the pressure stopped pulling the acid into the other bottle.
I'm pretty sad I never found these videos before, these are some of the best videos on here for information on fish tanks, thanks. Hope whatever journey you are on is successful :)

I have this same setup and it works great. My only issue is that when i refill the bottles, it takes hours for the pressure to build high enough to start diffusing into my aquarium. Even after ive squeezed as much acid into the baking soda mixture as i could. Is this normal?? There don’t seem to be any leaks
Hi, i am hoping to try a acid based diy co2 set up. A question about the types of PET bottles. I have access to two types of PET bottles where I live. One is stiffer kind of plastic and the other is softer. Considering that I would be using a solenoid and shutting flow of co2 off at times, which kind of PET bottles should I use?
I love your videos, they have helped me a lot. I have a question I did the setup and everything is working fine but when I touch the bottles it looks like they have built so much pressure inside. So what are the probabilities that these bottles would explode, I’m scared since my aquarium is in my room.
You are fine. Those soda bottle are rating to handle way more pressure than what the DIY mix can produce. Your hoses will mostly likely pop or split before your bottle do. Just don't go dropping them.
You shouldn't have to. You don't want to. The reaction is paused when you close the needle valve. When you open the valve back up, it'll start the reaction where it left off. The only time you want to shake the bottle is when you are mixing a new batch.
Hi there, Really helpful set of videos thank you. I purchased the diy co2 system off amazon. I also purchased the electronic solenoid so i can set up a timer with it. One issue i have is that the thumbscrew that comes with the DIY CO2 system is really hit and miss. I'll set it up for a number of bubbles in the bubble counter then ill check it an hour later the number of bubbles will be different. is it that the thumbscrew is broken or do i need some sort of pressure regulator? thanks in advance
You have to keep fiddling with it. The problem is they aren't always built the same. But it's DIY, you can get away with a higher then normal 1BPS kind of flow. It's also the beast of the nature with dealing with DIY Co2. The pressure will lessen as the pressure is less i the bottles over time.
@@TheWaterBox Bubbles vary because the pressure cycles. 1 bubble per sec is the same amount of co2 for diy and pressurized systems (after the initial 2 liters of air are purged)
This is the best and most thorough video for instructions on how to use this DIY setup. We use these in indoor growing to add Co2 to our grow tents.. very informative, thank you.
@@TheWaterBox Yes Sir, my growspace is 4x3x6, so this keeps a steady and light flow of co2 in there and the plants love it. In fact I received the exact rig you use in this video in mail 2 days ago and I'll be setting it up today.
Hi I have this DIY co2. I run it for 8 hrs. After using this Co2, I run my air pump in the next 3 hrs. And repeat the cycle in the morning. My question is, do I Have to open air pump after using co2 in w/c I see the fish gasping for an air. Or not to use the pump for the Co2 I inject will lose. Pls help if I’m doing it right.
I'd use it while the co2 is going. The air pump doesn't "inject" o2 into the tank. It helps create surface agitation in the tank to promote oxygen exchange and you want that so you don't gas your fish.
Just found your video and literally got into the DIY. testing out the 1 bubble/sec for now but I was wondering...does it really matter where the diffuser is placed in the tank?
Yes. Put it in a place where there's flow or the co2 isn't moved around the tank. Co2 tends to concentrate at the top level of the water. You need to move it around the tank for maximum efficiency.
Wow that was a great video! You did a great job of breaking down the information and it was helpful to get some info on the paintball method as well. Subscribed!
@@LearningIsTheBest You mean splitting the setup into two tanks? That might not work too well. The pressure coming out of the bottles is inconsistent as it. Splitting the line will cause more inconsistency. You can try it but I'm not sure how well it will work.
Hi, so if You shut off the needle valve during the night will the pressure in the bottle not build to dangerous level, I guess it is still safe pressure but can someone please confirm?
If you shut off the needle valve, it's SUPPOSED to stop the reaction from happening before there's enough pressure to split a 2 litter bottle. I explain it in this video: ruclips.net/video/0rshucPR8hg/видео.html
Hi..i would like to ask if this diy co2 shall release another chemical / somehow affect the TDS reading?.. Fyi, i am now using this diy co2 for a week..cut story short, while at night, co2 is off, tds increase about 3-5ppm..(i compared the reading yesterday evening against this morning) But during daytime while co2 is on, tds reading increase 9ppm in 3 hours.. is this normal?.. Thank you
Does the needle point have to exactly be in the green zone to be considered primed? I've done it myself using the exact same measurements of Citric acid, baking soda, and water too. What happened on my end was that the needle spun just a little past the green zone but not very far off at all from the green zone (steady at the 2.20 mark)
No, just get it up to the green is fine. It'll slowly build more pressure over time and most in the the green zone later. Just get it to at least the line is fine.

The Water Box Hi!, I' m using this system for the last 2 weeks. Its cheap and its working good. Just want to know. How long I will use this in my 20 liter tank. And how bpm? Thanks
I used to way back before the eBay products being sold. Used a coke bottle, sugar, yeast and baking soda. Lasted in a 55 for two weeks before needing regeneration. First time was a mess because I didn't know how high to have the water and it almost got into my tank. So over all it is not a bad thing if you want to try it.
Hello, I have set up a dirted tank with organic seed starting soil capped with 2 inches of sand with a filter and heater. I don’t have any plants or fish in it yet and I can’t seem to get it to clear up from it’s apple cider looking water. It has gotten better with water changes but it seems like a waste. Do you have any ideas for what i could do?
It's tannin's from the soil. It happened. It goes away over time with water changes but you can use Purigen in your filter and it should help clear it up pretty fast. Just take it out when you're done with it so it doesn't take out more stuff that the plants may need.
Does shut off value not cause the bottle to explode due to excess pressure build up ? Ive got this kit, and looking up on RUclips to set this things up...
I have tried few times setting up an aquarium with plants but failed as I just put led light but don’t put C02 ! I failed and given up! Recently I watched so many beautiful aquascaping tanks I was so moved to try again but hesitate to start as the C02 will be a costly maintenance. Luckily I found your video! It gives me spirit again to start! I hope I succeed this time! I m just wandering what is the exact name for the kits that you ordered from AMazon? Could u provide the lay man name for Citric Acid? Can I get it locally?
the kit should have links in the video descriptiion. Citric Acid is something you can just get that the supermarket, at least here in the USA. I get a bag on amazon
Hi chung (hope i got that right). If i doubled the mix, say 400g to 1200ml citric acid and then 400g to 400ml baking soda, will it make the mixture longer before i prime one again. Its currently taking me just 7-10 days. Thanks mate!
I dunno. I don't know if you'd want too unless you double the size of your bottle too. Don't quote me on this and I'm guessing but doubling up on the mix might double up on the pressure too. I dunno though. You'd have to research that or asking done else who's tried it or looked into it. I don't go the diy co2 route anymore. Its either passive like the Fluval 20g kit set up or pressurized or no co2 at all. Depends on set up of the tank.
The Water Box I think your right on doubling the bottle size. Problem with that is that i don't know if there's any 4L bottle, and if there is one, if it would fit the co2 bottle caps. Oh well guess ill stick to this setup until i get tired, or find a bottle! Cheers!
Hi sir, co2 is continously produced right? Solenoid valve shut off will make the bottle burst with extra pressure..? How the pressure inside bottles are controlled?
I never had a problem with the pressure inside the bottles. Neither does Pepsi or coca cola or other soda companies. I dunno what the max pressure on a sealed bottle is but on a diy system, it's not completely air tight.
Hello! Very helpful video, I just have one question: I'm doing some research online on having to use both co2 on my planted tanks WITH airpumps. I'm getting mixed info's and I was just wondering if this is something you'd recommend? Thank!!!
You're fine if the air pump isn't drastic and causing massive surface tension. You want subtle surface movements even using Co2 to promote the gas exchange balance so a subtle air pump is fine.
I was not able to buy the needed materials to build one before the apocalypse happened (COVID home quarantine). Are there home materials I can use to somehow supply my tank with CO2?
Also if u don't have much co2 reduce. Your lighting on your tank as less light less photosynthesis less photosynthesis less co2 used id drop it to 5 hours of light a day or less
Hello, I've read that this kind of system (citric acid + baking soda) tries to maintain an equilibrium. Reaction in bottle B adds pressure to both bottles and when there's enough pressure in bottle A, it send more citric acid to bottle B, and the cycle continuous. My question is, isn't the cycle just going to continue and the pressure will build up even when the line going to the the tank is shut off? I am currently doing the sugar-yeast method but it runs out far too quickly and and I could not shut it off, so I am thinking of switching to this mix. Thanks!
You just answered you own question. When the Bottle A pressure gets higher than B then it send the acid over. But if you stop pressure from escaping from B, then it'll always be pressurized higher then in A. Besides, a bottle can handle 1200 psi of pressure. Your DIY contraption or tubes will pop before the bottle does. Might leave a wet mess though (more if you don't have a one way air vavle).
To clarify, when shut off, the pressure will build to the point where both bottles will have equal pressure so nothing is moving into either bottle. That initial build up before it stops isn't enough pressure to go beyond 1200 pounds.
Thank you for responding! I get it now, the key word is equilibrium! When the solenoid shuts off, neither bottle will be able to send anything to the other, wether the gas from bottle B or citric acid from bottle A!
Bro i have a doubt with diy CO2 which use with soda and citric. If i use solinoid. Does my CO2 will explode. Example i use daily for 6 hours means rest of time it switchoff it didn't explode. Please help me in this matter. I fully confused.
I thought that we cannot use Solenoid Valve for DIY CO2 system as it would build up pressure in the plastic bottle and cause issues/ Is this actually safe? What is happenning to the pressure then?
Once it's cut off, it should stop the pressure. As long as you have bottles that can handle the correct PSI, you should be good. More on this here: ruclips.net/video/0rshucPR8hg/видео.html
The Water Box ok thanks I think I’m going to go diy because I hate the bulk of the passive diffuser of the 20g after I’m finished with the dsm period, how many bubbles per second for a 5g aquarium
This is made for aquariums. I don't think you really need something for indoor plant growing unless you likst growing mass plants and that you should move to a pressurized enclosed system I believe.
Great video! So glad I found your channel. Quick question on the regulator with solenoid valve you list: I am guessing I should choose paintball threads of I plan to use a paintball tank? Thanks!
Yes, if you want to use it with a paintball tank. You can however get either and just get an adapter that will make it fit the other tank. But it's easier to just get the one based on the tank you plan to use.
Hey by the way my plants are still alive the one that you told me what it might be it's doing really well surprisingly. I have yet to get the root tabs but as soon as I get paid on the 10th I'm getting them. In the meantime I've got liquid fertilizer. Which seems to be keeping them from dying. my anubias is doing well and the stuff that looks like kind of like long leafy grass that you put in the back of the tank is doing pretty well but this stuff that looks like Christmas tree is starting to turn yellow at the bottom and brown so it's not doing too well. I pulled it all out and I cut off all the parts that are dying and maybe try it as a floater plant and see if it does better
Using this on two different sized 2 liters, is that my problem? The bottles get stiff, but the gauge says nothing. No CO2 comes out, citric acid is on A, the taller bottle, baking soda is on B, the shorter bottle. Baking soda keeps clumping on the bottom. Any help?
Thanks for the information. I've been running a similar setup for about two months and my solenoid has gotten clogged up with crystalised baking soda. Has anyone else had this issue? Any suggestions on how to prevent this problem?
im running this system for 5 days now, but the pressure is increasing to 2,2 kg/cm3. is this a problem or am i just fine. im a bit concerned since its out of the green range if you know what i mean.
You should be fine. Soda bottles don't fail until over 7 kg/cm2. Your hoses split or pop first but typical vinyl hoses can at the minimum stand up to maybe 4 (depends on type and make). Most likely will pop out of it connection first if anything but you still go a ways to go. If you're still worried, just let a bunch of the co2 out in one go.
It will slightly (not as big of a swing as pressurized co2) but for discus and south american rams it's a good thing. How soft is your water now? How big of a tank?.
Question!?! After a few days of using yeast the bubbles are not as visible but you can still hear it coming from the stone. Is this better? Or still working? Or should I replace it?
Hi i tried doing this but I can’t seem to control the air valve that much. Also the bubble counter seems to empty out and move the water that’s inside the bubble counter back to the tank and the bubble counter is empty with a little water left but no bubbles are forming
Hmmm. I've not had too much trouble with the valve but it is a little stiff making it hard to dial in. I'm not too sure about the emptying of your bubble counter though. Maybe you're blasting the co2 it'll happen but you would know if you were blasting it or not.
@@TheWaterBox i had a co2 system from ista for my nano tank using 12g cartridges but they phased it out.... i was thinking if i could buy the ones used for pellet guns and use that? Im not sure if co2 for aquariums need to be food grade ones....
I guess make sure you have the mix right. DIY Co2 rarely every kills kills fish. The concentrationg isn't pure enough, especially in larger tanks. In smaller tanks it can happen easier but again, rare. More important is not getting the mix into the tank itself. Again, rare. You have to do something really stupid like squeezing the bottle on purpose into the tank. MAYBE if the bottle tip over so there's that.
The main problem I am having with yeast sugar mix co2 is an effective way of diffusion. Glass diffuser won't work properly. If you can provide me an effective DIY co2 diffusion method that will be very helpful.
Glass diffuser always worked for me but I'm using a Citric Acid and Baking Soda mix. It sounds like you're not getting enough pressure out of the reaction. Yeast+sugar I find to be a pain to do. How do you have it set up? One bottle or two bottle set up? How are you mixing your yeast/sugar with the water? You're using hot water so it properly dissolves the yeast/sugar?
I am using warm water to mix 250 gm sugar and 2 small spoon of yeast in a 2 lit bottle. The reaction is fine because I am getting 2 bubbles per sec for first 5 days. After that it decreases.
I just set up a yeast/sugar mix the other day. One half liter bottle only. I have the same problem regarding the diffusion so I have the tube going into my internal filter. It's only a 10g tank but works great. I'm curious to see how long the mixture will last (1tsp yeast to 1tblsp sugar). I'm sure I'll upgrade to a baking powder/acid setup but I'm just "getting my hands wet".
Sure, but maybe that depends on the size of the aquarium. Mine is 3 gallon, shrimp tank and has 1 bubble every 4 seconds, so I expect it to be more durable. I read that the valve dies after a while, but it is not that bad. Very informative though. +1 subscriber :)
Hmmm... the valve never died on me. If you use too much force on the valve (twisting hard) I can see it breaking. If you're running 1 bps then it will last longer for sure. What kinda of plants in the shrimp tank? And thanks for subbing! There's also another solution to co2 for a 3 gallon tank but might not work for that size for what I will be talking about. Watch for video in the morning. ;)
Yeh I love them pressurized set ups too! :) Makes life so much easier. But when I'm in a pinch and set up a new tank, this is a good quick go to way to get co2 into the tank.
I bought a co2 kit for my 30g which uses the usual sugar and yeast. I set it up correctly and I'm still not getting any bubbles coming through. it's been set up for 4 days now. and since I paid £40 for it, i really want it to work
Dang, your videos a AWESOME, why is my presure rising when using it or not using it, always exceeds the green zone, is that something i should worry about?
It'll rise over time, especially when you cut the connection to the bottles. You should be fine. Those 2 litter bottles are made to handle was more pressure that DIY c02 can produce. Assuming you're using the right amount of mix.
I never had a problem. The bottle are meant to take on a lot more pressure and the co2 contraption on thses DIY sets will usually give before the bottles would.
Hey, Great vid! Thx! I'm going to try the Anself DIY CO2 (D501) generator/system on a 20L. *Would you / Could you pls* do a review on the newer D601-S model? No more plastic drink bottles, self-contained stainless steel canister with (some) electronic solenoid ON/OFF regulator for around 89 to 99 bucks. TIA!

Hi. I'm trying to set up a planted tank. and I am looking to buy pressurized co2 system.. although my budget is around 100. Most of the systems I see online are 200+ including all the equipments necessary.. would you be kind enough to send me link for co2 tank that cost only $71 in your video?
Hey... I have this problem, pressure and co2 goes ok for few days, then boom high rise in pressure. I dont understand, if im doing something wrong, or some how to much citric acid goes into soda after the pressure drop. Im a bit scared it will blow up if im not around and check it time to time. Plus, when this happens, my bps changes it rises a lot if the pressure increases and goes down if is pressure drops. Does any one else got this problem? Im confused why is this happening. My connection is aluminum but working same as the one in video. With solenoid valve and bubble counter. I mixed new batch 3-4 days ago, yesterday evening I checked it and the acid bottle was empty. I made a new one today, mixes citric acid with 700ml of water, to decrease the reaction just in case, so i did the reaction for 15 min to rise up to 1 kg. and waited for it to stop, ok, and two hours later it was up to 3kg and rising. Like wtf. This has happened at night once, even when co2 was off. Any help or ideas would be helpful. I thonk the problem is that too mutch citric acid goes into the soda bottle, but im not sure what to do to stop that happening.
Hi, I also purchased one of these DIY CO2 setups (still waiting on my diffuser and for my dry start to finish). Would it be possible to, instead of using a solenoid valve, add an air pump on a timer to make the CO2 diffuse faster overnight in order to guarantee the safety of any aquarium fish?
The Water Box On second thought I'm just going to do a paintball tank and take a chance on Chinese regulator. I really want a uns mini but its sold out everywhere.
Hey WB, this is the second video I have watched and am excited to build my own CO2 system. You mentioned this not being good for anything over 30 Gal? I have a 55 Gal, but wouldn't ANY additional CO2 I can add be helpful to my plants?
Go for it. Can't hurt to do it. Just make sure you've got the flow to move the co2 around. It's not that you can't do it. It'll work. It's just a pain in the butt to do it and not as efficient. What you can try to do is instead of using a mister/Atomizer, try going the co2 bell way. Try both and see what works best for you.
I have regular pressurized co2 and i want to run it to two tanks, I was wondering if you would recommend splitting the lines with a t-valve or just getting a separate bubble counter? I just didn't want to spend a whole lot of money buying an extra manifold and bubble counter, those gla regulator manifolds aren't cheap lol. Also, the videos look great man, what editor do you use? Keep up the good work.
I use the adobe suite of stuff (premiere, after effects, photoshop). For splitting, do what I do. Go to ebay and get an off brand. It'll be under $20. :) I have it on my tank that feeds the 20g iwagumi and 40g. You can see it in this video at 3:48 > ruclips.net/video/QQji5LypDN0/видео.htmlm48s

To be safe, not really. I can't really answer that as I don't know how your set up is and what kind of parameters are in your tank. The DIY isn't as potent as normal pressurized stuff but it's still pump Co2 into your tank.

So what are the probabilities that these bottles would explode, I’m scared since my aquarium is in my room.
Your bottles should be fine, they are tested to around 150psi which is round about 10bar pressure. I would imagine the tubing would blow off first!

You shouldn't have to. You don't want to. The reaction is paused when you close the needle valve. When you open the valve back up, it'll start the reaction where it left off. The only time you want to shake the bottle is when you are mixing a new batch.

Oh nice! You just release it into the air in the tent?
Subscribed!
Thanks! i'm glad you enjoyed!
Hi great vid
Question can i use 2 defuser in one setup?
Thank you
You can if you want. Is it needed? If your tank is small than 40g, then most likely no.
@@TheWaterBox hi thanks for replying i am thinking to use one solution to two 5 gallons tank, is it ok?
@@LearningIsTheBest You mean splitting the setup into two tanks? That might not work too well. The pressure coming out of the bottles is inconsistent as it. Splitting the line will cause more inconsistency. You can try it but I'm not sure how well it will work.

Great video, thanks for posting! Any idea how long it takes to see results?
A week or two you should be seeing your plants to much better. When you give them Co2 they will grow more lush, more vibrant. Thanks for watching!
Fyi, i am now using this diy co2 for a week..cut story short, while at night, co2 is off, tds increase about 3-5ppm..(i compared the reading yesterday evening against this morning)
But during daytime while co2 is on, tds reading increase 9ppm in 3 hours.. is this normal?..
Thank you
Tour TDS is increasing because your carbons are increasing when you inject co2. It's normal.

The Water Box
yup i use
The Water Box Hi!, I' m using this system for the last 2 weeks. Its cheap and its working good. Just want to know. How long I will use this in my 20 liter tank. And how bpm? Thanks
I used to way back before the eBay products being sold. Used a coke bottle, sugar, yeast and baking soda. Lasted in a 55 for two weeks before needing regeneration. First time was a mess because I didn't know how high to have the water and it almost got into my tank. So over all it is not a bad thing if you want to try it.
nope - pressurised
❤
Can you use one of these C02 systems for multiple tanks?
I wouldn't. The pressure created by this process is not consistent. Pushing it out to multiple lines probably won't yield any good results.
Thanks, I’ll try that out!
Good luck!
Does shut off value not cause the bottle to explode due to excess pressure build up ? Ive got this kit, and looking up on RUclips to set this things up...
I've never had that problem.

Can I use co2 splitter on DIY co2 system?
?You can, I just don't think it'll be too effective. The pressure coming from DIY co2 aren't all that reliable.
Cheers!
Yeh, there are some limits until someone finds a better way.
You might be able to find 3 liter bottles at the dollar store and just up the mix by that difference.
Generally soda bottles are pressurized around 50 psi and u can drop them and shit and they are fine so i assume u could push 60 and be fine
Thanks fro clarifying!
Hey, can I make extra liquid like double the amount so it may last longer ?
You have to google that. I think you'd need bigger bottles to do that.
Hello! Very helpful video, I just have one question:
I'm doing some research online on having to use both co2 on my planted tanks WITH airpumps. I'm getting mixed info's and I was just wondering if this is something you'd recommend? Thank!!!
You're fine if the air pump isn't drastic and causing massive surface tension. You want subtle surface movements even using Co2 to promote the gas exchange balance so a subtle air pump is fine.
@@TheWaterBox sweet! thanks!
Is it ok if the pressure in my diy co2 is more than the green line? Thank you so much
Yes, should be fine.
What if i close the valve at night? Will the pressure continue to go up? What will i do? Thank you so much god bless you

I was not able to buy the needed materials to build one before the apocalypse happened (COVID home quarantine). Are there home materials I can use to somehow supply my tank with CO2?
Air stone will help a little
Also if u don't have much co2 reduce. Your lighting on your tank as less light less photosynthesis less photosynthesis less co2 used id drop it to 5 hours of light a day or less
Materials as in making the contraption or the mix (Citric Acid and Baking Soda?)
@@marlonallansupetran7120 It will for a little bit when you shut it off but once it equalizes, then yeh, nothing moves. Everything is in balance. ;)
Bro i have a doubt with diy CO2 which use with soda and citric. If i use solinoid. Does my CO2 will explode. Example i use daily for 6 hours means rest of time it switchoff it didn't explode. Please help me in this matter. I fully confused.
Not with 2 litter bottles. It doesn't create enough pressure to rupture the bottles. The hoses will pop out before that even happens.
Just one problem
I don’t have a scale to measure grams... can you tell how Much will that be in measuring cups ?
I think that might be on google somewhere. Just do a search. I don't have that info at the top of my head.

No. I always suggest pressurized over diy. Just so much more convienent and more control
tnx a lot
No prob.

Could just go DIY. Easy and cheap. Or the Fluval 20g passive co2 system
The Water Box ok thanks I think I’m going to go diy because I hate the bulk of the passive diffuser of the 20g after I’m finished with the dsm period, how many bubbles per second for a 5g aquarium
for DIY? Start with one and go from there depending on how your plants are doing.
Great video my man, is this set up alright for indoor plant growing? or just aquariums?
This is made for aquariums. I don't think you really need something for indoor plant growing unless you likst growing mass plants and that you should move to a pressurized enclosed system I believe.
I'm going to try this. Thanks for all the info and videos!
Glad to help. good luck!
The Water Box Thanks again!
Anytime my friend!
Good to hear!
Using this on two different sized 2 liters, is that my problem? The bottles get stiff, but the gauge says nothing. No CO2 comes out, citric acid is on A, the taller bottle, baking soda is on B, the shorter bottle. Baking soda keeps clumping on the bottom. Any help?
Try mixing your mix with warm water so that the baking soda can dissolve. Make sure to use baking soda and NOT baking powder.
Thanks for the information. I've been running a similar setup for about two months and my solenoid has gotten clogged up with crystalised baking soda. Has anyone else had this issue? Any suggestions on how to prevent this problem?
I have NEVER seen that problem before.
im running this system for 5 days now, but the pressure is increasing to 2,2 kg/cm3. is this a problem or am i just fine. im a bit concerned since its out of the green range if you know what i mean.
Great vid, very informative! We run co2 in two of our tanks.
I'm glad it helped :)
Hi my setup is the same . But the problem is my mix will be over in 3 or 4 days. What could be the reason for this ?? please help .
Depends on your needle valve setting but I'd check for leaks, that's usually the problem.
i always wanted to use diy co2 but will it change the ph? I got discus and rams in it.
It will slightly (not as big of a swing as pressurized co2) but for discus and south american rams it's a good thing. How soft is your water now? How big of a tank?.
Nice video bro .Your editing skills are amazing
Thank you!
Sir, I wanna ask, will the Vinegar be as effective as the citric acid as a substitute in creating Co2? Hope you'll notice my question.
I've never used that combo before in this kind of set up so you'll have to google it and see if there's a recipe out there for it.
@@TheWaterBox thank you sir

Question!?! After a few days of using yeast the bubbles are not as visible but you can still hear it coming from the stone. Is this better? Or still working? Or should I replace it?
It should still be expelling bubbles through the stone. Are you using an air stone? Or any actual diffuser?
Hi Chung. Do the 1.5lt bottles work fine or the 2lt ones are mandatory?
You'd have to look this up. I'm not sure if you need to change the mix measurements.
Hi i tried doing this but I can’t seem to control the air valve that much. Also the bubble counter seems to empty out and move the water that’s inside the bubble counter back to the tank and the bubble counter is empty with a little water left but no bubbles are forming
Are you using a DIY kit?
The Water Box yes it’s the same exact one that you are using in this video.
Hmmm. I've not had too much trouble with the valve but it is a little stiff making it hard to dial in. I'm not too sure about the emptying of your bubble counter though. Maybe you're blasting the co2 it'll happen but you would know if you were blasting it or not.
i'll find out more information about the bubble counter and i'll let you know!
Cool!
Is there any alternative for Citric Acid ?

Can you use co2 cartridge for guns in an aquarium? Thanks
Sure? Depends on what you're going to do with it.
@@TheWaterBox i had a co2 system from ista for my nano tank using 12g cartridges but they phased it out.... i was thinking if i could buy the ones used for pellet guns and use that? Im not sure if co2 for aquariums need to be food grade ones....
Sir can i ask, how would i make sure that may DIY co2 is working great, and make sure that it would not kill my fish
Hey, do you still use the system? Is it working all right. I think it is cool but i am not sure how it will be in the long run.
Yeh, it works. It's jsut a paint to keep mixing a batch every 2 weeks. If you don't mind doing that, then yeh, it will work great.
Watch for video in the morning. ;)
Now i have java moss, anubias nana and planning to add some dwarf baby tears.
The first two plants will do fine. Dwarf Baby Tears? Are you sure you wanna go that route? Or do you mean just normal baby tears?
I have the pleasurized co2 system with paintball cylinder. To me, it's worth the price. Great video and information!!
Yeh I love them pressurized set ups too! :) Makes life so much easier. But when I'm in a pinch and set up a new tank, this is a good quick go to way to get co2 into the tank.
can i use filter as diffuser?
You can try. Probably cause noise form the gas you inject into the filter.
Great info. I’m gong to try this next.
Awesome! Good luck!
I bought a co2 kit for my 30g which uses the usual sugar and yeast. I set it up correctly and I'm still not getting any bubbles coming through. it's been set up for 4 days now. and since I paid £40 for it, i really want it to work
What brand is it?
@@TheWaterBox it's a JBL pro flora 160. it seems to be fermenting in the bottle but there are still no bubbles coming through
Is the yeast from the packages the give you or did you buy it?
Wrong type of yeast.
Wouldn't shutting it off at night cause too much pressure to build up in the bottle?
I never had a problem. The bottle are meant to take on a lot more pressure and the co2 contraption on thses DIY sets will usually give before the bottles would.
please is it safe to shut the valve during the night ?
I never had a problem with closing the valve at night
Can you use a 1 L bottle?
You have to find a different recipe for the mix for 1 litter bottles.

I'm not sure about that honestly. I think the measurements would have to change on the citrus acid and baking soda. That I'm not sure about.
Can you split diy co2 between 2 tanks?
You can, I'm not sure how well it'll work. Never tried it.

Are you using 2litter bottles?
If anyone cannot find citric acid powder use lemon juice with some water works just as well and gets the device up to 2 bar ish

You'll usually do fine with a chinese regulator. I have had great luck so far our of the 5 times I bought them.
Try both and see what works best for you.

just noticed today the citric acid bottle is almost empty. Looks like the citric acid transferred to baking soda bottle. Is this normal?
That's suppose to happen. That's how it causes the reaction to make co2. Little by little the citric acid moves into the baking soda bottle.
@@TheWaterBox hi thank you for your response, just been 3days now since I set up my co2. And the citric accid bottle almost empty.., should I refill now the A and B bottle or should I wait til no bubble coming out and no pressure in the bottle?. Hope u help me I'm new for this hobby lol 😊
Wait till there's no more bubbles. Did you get one of those DIY contraptions with a pressure meter on it? If so, just look at the pressure meter. If it's close to zero, do a new mix.
Hi, is it safe to run diy co2 (yeast&sugar) for 24hrs? My light opens for 8hrs.. is it safe for my fishes or i need to shut my co2 when my light is off?
To be safe, not really. I can't really answer that as I don't know how your set up is and what kind of parameters are in your tank. The DIY isn't as potent as normal pressurized stuff but it's still pump Co2 into your tank.
