CO2 can be very daunting to new aquarists, great job making this guide super straight forward and easy for beginners, one of the best I've watched! Keep it up man!
Can’t wait for the diffuser video. I’ve always had issues with those typical diffusers. They always seem to clog up on me after 3-4 weeks. I ended up switching to an in-line diffuser and those have been working for me.
Any ceramic, or tightly pored acrylic diffuser must be pulled off it's hose and soaked in a mixture of bleach and water, with one third being bleach, at least once a month. Just look for spotty output, or string algae starting to attach. Just remember DO NOT touch the ceramic diffuser itself... the holes are very small and handling them can damage them.
It is annoying. I usually have extra's that a switch out and soak the used one with a bleach mix and decholerenate with prime. It's much safer with Hydrogen Peroxide but I'm impatient.
What a hard work and amazing channel, I hate it when a good and really informational people like you, the knows how to explain things naturally, just stop making videos, it's non of my business for sure, but that's a community lost 100%.
Thank you again! I really appreciate this tutorial.. I appreciate how you put everything into perspective. And I thank you to for sharing links if I decide to go for CO2... ❤️🐟🌱🌿
I actually have a 5 gallon planted tank and got the 88g fluval for that tank. Have it set to 2 bubble per minute and the plants are loving it. Had it running now for 1 month. Got about half left
Hi I just started my first soil and sand substrate I'm so excited have organic soil and also the best sand that was recommended super naturals sand. It's awesome and works very well thanks so much for your vids cause they help alot. When I first set it up air was trying to excape but after a few days of water change and such it finally stopped and now I rarely see them the sand is awesome and looks grate with my aquarium I'm still going to let it set longer so all the air can excape and I can suck up the amonia
Thanks for the suggestion on co2art! I was looking for a fairly priced and good quality kit and I've found a couple of options that are more budget friendly :)
Love your videos! They really helped me understand how all this stuff works! Could you do a video about CO2 splitters and how to use 1 pressurized CO2 system for multiple nano tanks? Thanks!
Great coverage of the topic and well presented. One of these days I will probably have to try making a diy version for carbon dioxide delivery. I've always just gone with the natural balanced approach. It would be interesting to see the benifits. Thanks for sharing your experiences
I am finally getting my first planted tank in a couple of days!!! So was just watching your earlier videos about aquascaping and the fundamentals of planted tanks and they are really good. I'll be following your advice. Also can you suggest some starter/begginer fish for my tank? Love your videos!! keep em coming
Hello, I’m in the market for a good CO2 Reactor. The ones I’ve seen looked flimsy. What do you recommend? Thank you for sharing. Big Dan of all your series.
Dude I love your content, I’ve become a pro overnight in comparison to where I was before watching your channel. In the future I was wondering if you could possibly go over gravel vacuuming newly planted S Repens or any other carpet plant. I keep unplanting them when I gravel vac. The excess food usually finds it way to my carpet area, which then needs a vacuuming. Maybe there is a way of keeping my food to one area consistently? I don’t know but I’m getting pretty pissed that I have to aquascape after every feeding. Thanks big bro!
Oh for that you cut the flow a little from the siphon. Everything else is the same. To other way is to wave your hand avobe the substrate and try and get the debris floating into the water and suck it up
How long do the fluval canisters last you? And when I set it up should it be a constant stream of bubbles 24/7 or is it just a little bit for a couple minutes everyday? I just bought the 45g one and already lost 75% of my carbon, I was so sure I wasn’t releasing so much into my tank but apparently not. There’s something I’m doing wrong I just can’t figure out what, hoping you could help me out.
Once again real good video made it easy for me to understand the co2 and oxygen mix trying my hardest best to get my planted tank going not doing to bad but not good enough. Wish I could message you 1 on 1 just want to get this right .Using a DIY system and will try some of the advice you have given thanks bro

Hahaha fortunately i am the wife. Hubby actually started getting interested after helping me set up a paludarium in a 40g breeder, then i set up an angel tank for him. Now hes addicted to planted tanks, so now we have 4 lol.
Do you think I need pressurized co2 for a light-medium planted 20L shrimp tank? Or would a little in tank passive co2 unit? I just want a little bit of co2 to help keep algae down and perk up the plants a little
Co2 doesn't not get rid of algae... healthy growing plants do. Pressurized is always the best way to go but for a tank that size, you can use a passive co2 system like this fluval 20g reviewed here: ruclips.net/video/Ie2alaJGfFs/видео.html
I have just installed CO2 using a Sodastream adapter and my regulator has a built in bubble counter with check valve. The counter is facing sideways (horizontal). Is this ok?
So I have a 10 gallon tank and by the end of next month I'm going to have a ton of plants I currently have 11-13 live plants. By the end of next month I'm going have added giant duck weed, 2 rosboras and I'm getting some more giant hair grass about 3-6 more I have 3 so far, and a dwarf hairgrass a 3x3 mat, what would be a good cheap set up for that. I have 1 betta, 1 zebra danio, 4 neon tetras, 4 ember tetras, and 1-3 shrimp which we will get 5-7 more shrimp to help with cleaning. We had 5 but the betta liberty he is a red white and blue double tail male well he got hungry and had a late night snack lol
@@TheWaterBox yeah they sure do. So those 5 amano shrimp all became dinner lol. We ended up getting a 20 long added a tone of structure for the shrimp to hide in. Then we went and got 10 shrimp we ordered from petco online they sent 11 but 2 died during transportation, leaving us with 9 we put in the 20 long well the betta ate 2 or 3 so we went into petco got 3 neon tetras and 4 more shrimp. Bringing us upto 7 neon tetras the 3 new ones were pail and 1 didnt eat for a day and was swimming kinda weird but no spots or anything well it swam up to the top of the tank started going down to the bottom from a spot a shrimp usually hides and the betta bit its head off. Well I found 1 of the new neon tetras dead yesterday and then the last new one died today. So yesterday i removed the betta to the 10 gallon were he is now alone. But we have 6 shrimp left. No matter what we did the betta could go everywhere we set up no matter what we did. But now that the betta is in his own tank, the 20 long will have 6 dwarf craw fish, 1 or 2 neon tetras , and 20 ish shrimp, then the other fish we have will stay. We have 5 zebra danios and 4 neon tetras, 4 ember tetras with 6 shrimp. And as far as plants I have red and green cabomba about 10- 18 stems,2 2x2 pads of red flame moss, 2 bunches of java furn 7 bunches of dwarf hair grass, 4 giant hair grass bunches, and I am waiting on some floating plants to arrive, some red root floaters, and some water spangles. Really going to be an amazing tank. We have a sunken ship which is in 2 peaces. We have a ton of hiding spots for the dwarf crawfish
Looking to buy aquarium co ops CO2Art Pro SE regulator. What's the best way to get or swap tanks in San Diego or LA? I am not sure where to buy a tank.
It should be fine. The only thin is the expiration date on the tank itself to get it tested. I'd check the date on the tank (It'll have numbers imprinted on the tank) that tells you when it expires and needs to get tested for pressure. You can get it tested at gas places and only costs like $15 or something like that.
I disagree. Liquid co2 isnt even co2 its an algaecide. Halting algae growth promotes plant growth. If you check out cory on aquarium coop he used passive diffusion with great results....even pearling.
I did the paintball tank, and amazon regulator. But the regulator failed, quickly, the gauges all seem to stop at 1500-2000 psi where paintball tanks are 3000(?) is this why so many bad reviews about early failures maybe?. Anyway I do want to get another regulator, and struggling w what one..? Pls can u make any suggestions on regulator? (33 gal planted gravel substrate if it matters). Any help is appreciated!
If you got one from Amazon and it's a dud exchange it or return it. I don't know which you you got so I can't advise more on it. I just get cheap Regulators on ebay from China and works well. Are you sure you are using it right? What do you mean it stops at 2000psi? The number on the dial stops at 2000 or your needle on the dial stops at 2000?
The Water Box yes, most gauges stop at 2000 (from what I’ve seen) . Do I use properly?, think so. But I attached to adapter (to engage safety valve on paintball tank) and then regulator w selanoid and it works for a few weeks. Then the low pressure gauge fails then the unit stops gas production.. (1 bubble per second) But I’d try whatever u suggestion.. I’ve seen a few options. But w no warranty I worry it’s the same situation again.
It could be you got a bad one. It does happen but that happens to most product you use. You just have to take a chance sometimes. At least if you get it from ebay you're protected
So with a big tank of Co2 you can hook it up to a gang line to do multable tanks with separate adjustment , bubble counter, and defuser for each tank depending on size of the tank and its needs , 🤔
You can happily run a 180 litre aquarium on an 88g cylinder if you have a reactor. You would probably save 95% of the CO2, so it is roughly equivalent the time it would take to use a 1kg tank. With all CO2 its about being smart. You can get away with very little if you are highly efficient.
