I just bought a CO2 system 2 days ago and this video provides all the info I was searching for. I'm still in the agitated phase of determining the difusor placement and the bubbles per second, nearly driving insane. The checker is dark green. It's a heavily planted 100l (26.4 gallons) aquarium, currently at 3, 4 bps. Subscribed! Thank you very much for this video! Regards from Portugal!
I like how on the "DIY" side you chose the most basic system sold from a company - a bottle with a hole in it. There are much better choices which include a regulator, solenoid, needle valve and bubble counter. You add cheap citric acid and sodium bicarbonate which lasts a month or more
I just bought a few plants from your website and I can't wait to get them. I'm totally new to all this, but I'm about 9 days into my first planted aquarium. I know I want more control than a DIY C02 system has to offer, but for me, the only reason a pressurized C02 systems is intimidating, is because there really is no all in one unit. I feel like I have to piece a system together with our really knowing what I'm buying. I have access to cheap soda stream refills, so that seems like the logical route for me, I just don't know what else I need to buy to make sure everything will work together.
You're in luck! We have some kits on our website! buceplant.com/collections/co2-accessories/products/uns-co2-paintball-kit-24oz-cylinder This will come with everything you need besides the CO2 itself (we cannot ship the canister with CO2 in it). Once you receive it, you will have to take the canister to someplace that can fill it for you such as a paintball or sporting goods store. Welding supply and homebrew supply shops should be able to refill your CO2 as well!
Lucky I found this great info! Can you do a video about C02 injection in multiple tanks, and possibly how you could inject C02 into a Betta Barrack? ( 3 tanks, one 33 gallon, and two 20 gallon long tanks.) I just set this up, but don't know if I can inject C02 into the middle of each 20 gallon long tanks with compartments for Betta. The larger tank has no compartments. Thanks in advance! Love your videos!
For those CO2 DIY system that have like citric acid and baking soda reacting with each other. just use ice instead of water, the reaction only starts when the water is in its liquid form and it gives you more time. drawback it takes roughly 4x as long for the pressure to build up
Thank you for the video! Question: is it normal for water to get into the CO2 line before it hits the bubbler or after it leaves the bubbler to the diffuser?
I want to use a splitter on a pressurized CO2 system to service 6 to 8 tubs filled with only plants. What are the components called that I would need to buy? Will I need several drop checkers or just a manifold used for aeration?
Glad I came across this. Can you use a pressurized system on a fluval flex 9 gallon? Is the tank too small for it? I have so many questions. Lol...Ill stick with the one. Lol
Hey, new to live plants. I just received Vallisneria plants from BP. They came with the foam wraps on the bottom along with weights. Do I leave those on or remove them before planting in substrate? Thanks
Thanks for very useful info! Just one question lets say if we start co2 and light for 7 hours in evening, do we need to turn off water filter in this time window? As water filter will remove co2 and add oxygen then its useless to start co2 system.. Rite.. Let me know whats ur openion. Or its ok to run co2, light and filtration system together?
For diy systems, would creating more flow on the surface of the water to regulate the amount of co2 be a good idea to cancel the overproduction of co2?
That's a great question! Increasing surface agitation will not be the most effective. Increasing surface gas exchange and raising oxygen levels will not reduce the amount of CO2 because oxygen and carbon dioxide levels in the water are not mutually exclusive. One thing you can try is to raise your diffuser closer to the surface, what this does is that the CO2 bubbles spend less time in the water column and therefore not diffuse as efficiently.
Im using a homemade injection system. My main question is, does surface agitation prevent over gassing? And if not, how lo g should i let a Yeast/jelly system run? I have about 1 bubble per second in a 10 gallon . . Im a college student so all the things i needed, i already had.
question for you if you dont mind me asking so i start co2 1 to 2 hours before lights come on. some people have said im looking at 30 ppm or close before the lights come on. so for the rest of day while the lights are on so is my co2,well...co2 off one hour before lights go off. still whats to prevent that 30 ppm concentration from going higher throughout the day?
Your plants consuming the CO2 throughout the day is what would keep it below 30ppm! If it still gets too high, you will need to turn down the rate of CO2 injection on your regulator, then monitor the levels over the next couple days to see if the adjustment was enough.
Great video as always and I got 29 gallons tank so I only need to use one bottle co2 system for my tank not to use 2 bottles right? I’m a new beginner for the Co2 system 😅
The number of bottles does not effect the performance of your CO2 system, in any case you can only use one bottle at a time and the size of the bottle will only change how often you need to refill it, no effect on the performance of your CO2 injection either. We have a beginner's guide to CO2 on our blog page, here is the link! buceplant.com/blogs/aquascaping-guides-and-tips/how-to-add-co2-to-your-planted-aquarium
Great video, great series thanks. It seems that unlike lighting and fertilization that should be adjusted to your circumstances. CO2 is adjusted and then left alone. Right?
Hi. It is important how you dissolve co2.I use a ph controller. With an twinstar acrylic diffuser, it takes 70 minutes to saturate the tank. With co2 art inline diffuser it takes 27 minutes. With the jbl inline diffuser it takes 23 minutes.with co2 reactor (profiplants) it only takes 11 minutes to saturate the tank and no unwanted bubbles in the tank from co2.So, with the right choice of diffuser, I save a lot of co2.
Hi! I’m going to be setting up a 75 gallon planted tank for a betta sorority, I’m very new to this and kinda scared- do you have a full video on you Co2 defuser and regulator from your site?
Hello! What kind of information are you looking for in terms of a video? Ultum Nature Systems does have a setup video on their RUclips channel on setting up that specific system.
Is it okay to add the system in while I already have an aquarium that has been running for a couple of months and has had fish in it for a couple of months as well?
Hello....suppose if my plants are in one side and I have inline diffuser then what would be your recommendation on placing the filter outlet and inlet.....
Although the inline itself will do a great job of dispersing the CO2 throughout the tank, I would place the outflow on the opposite end of where the plants are (so the water flows towards the plants.)
This is not an easy question to answer because it depends on a variety of things - For example, how large is the CO2 canister? How much CO2 (in BPS) are you planning to inject into the 55gal, and for how long each day?
Oh and another one. Back ground options. I'm really curious of how far we can push LED lights. I wanted to attempt to make a rising sun situation. I have no idea on how to approach this sun idea but I was wondering if you guys could help by pointing me into the right direction.

I'm thinking to get a regulator without a CO2 tank. But instead I attach a balloon to it which I blow CO2 to it fully every morning by myself. Just trying to utilize human breath CO2 as much as possible. Do you think that could work?
For as long as your lighting period, usually about 8 hours. However, we recommend turning on CO2 about 1 hour before your light turns on and turning off CO2 1 hour before your light turns off.
Isn't air line tubing not good for CO2 because the gas is acidic and will eat holes through the air line tubing? That is why we use CO2 tubing. Not to mention that the airline tubing isn't rated for the 40-50psi that the tube is put under when the system pressurizes up. Thoughts?
