I personally think it actually ended working well for the Boks with the illegal substitution and uncontested scrums because it leveled the playing field just a little more. The boks are forced to deal with a situation where they can’t use a scrum to their advantage. Get some reps in to work other parts of their game. They’re also forced to deal with a forward pack who’s faster and more nimble, to get some reps in. Instead of it being a walk in the park, it became more of a challenge to work through which hopefully yielded some useful results.

Could you tell me what you think of this? I think Australia rugby is under huge pressure because of rugby league. It's simpler so more people get into it faster. I think part of opening up the game to larger audiences comes down to the complexity of the scrum. What if you put censors in the forwards' shoulder pads and show pressure points in real time? This would 'gamify' it a little making it more interesting, but we might also start to see patterns in who started pushing first, what happened just before a collapse etc. Please let me know what you think 😊
yeah probably can achieve that with AI soon without censors. at the end of the day world rugby dont care about scrum cos they are money grab sellouts they could employee better commentators for scrums but they dont.
@@Wildkard that's makes with the AI yeah. I didn't think of that and I use it all the time. Better commentary would definitely help. Now it's just mostly bias. My friend and I used to talk about how many beers you need to explain a sport and we used that to rate its complexity. Cricket is about 2 or 3 beers. I'd say rugby is also round there except for scrumming and mauling. We need to get it down one extra beer max for scrum and mauls. With easy phrases like I don't know prop drop, knees down, shoulder sink etc. But yeah... if world rugby doesn't give a shit then we're screwed anyway. Thanks for replying. Really appreciate it man!

I think the modern 12 has to be a physical presence to combat the rush defences of today... Caleb Clarke would do do well there. Jordie Barrett and David Havilli are ball players but they lose the gainline battle too often especially vs the Boks.
modern 12 also needs to be a playmaker with great distribution - not sure if Clarke has that? On defence the 12 also needs to be able to read the attack.
