I had a similar journey and ran into similar issues. We were at the TLM for some time. I had a Baronius Missal and then we started using the monthly Missal from Benedictus, which was just fantastic. My family prayed regularly out of the Monastic Diurnal. I was looking for something similar when we converted. I ended up with the HTM Prayer Book, Book of Hours, and Psalter, even though we are in ROCOR. My only real complaint on the Prayer book is the lack of occasional prayers.
How right on you are, even though it's too late for me. I'm a bit of a liturgical history nerd, so . . . In defense of the Anthologion, I would remind you that it was a work for the time of the recent Great Inconvenience. And although the translation is often odder than I would like, it does have a rich variety of material that is not in any of the smaller prayer books. And, as I attend an OCA parish, and the OCA Prayer Book is perhaps the least comprehensive, I find the Anthologion a good daily driver, to use a much over-used term. I kinda miss the old Breviary, though. But, alas, it's 120 miles to the nearest traditional Catholic Mass.
I do understand that, and to be honest, I use the Anthologion very often. (It actually works pretty well as just a prayer book, even if the translation is wonky.) I do look wistfully towards my old Roman Breviary and Monastic Diurnal from time to time. I've been meaning to do more Western liturgical stuff, but have to find the time to write and brainstorm a bit. Perhaps something on the ancient Roman Holy Week and its (fundamentally) Eastern theology will be in order after Great Lent begins.
i really appreciate the ending advise. i broke into my sisters room and stole 300 usd to buy some stuff from HTM an hour prior to seeing this video. I put back 180 usd. Im ur 10th sub. plz make more vids and pray for my catechuminate process
me: "Jesus, should I buy this new book?" Jesus: "Show me the latest new books you read." me: "I have no new books I've read." Jesus: "You are right in saying, 'I have no new books I've read,' for you have twenty-six new books, and the ones you now own you have not read."
I use the little red Antiochian paper prayer book most of the time. I also use Jordanville and the Orthodoxy Study Bible prayer section. I also have the Antiochian Western Rite Service Book which has a entire Psalter included but the prayer section is rather lack luster.
I am also looking for something similar to help follow along in liturgy. I just received the orthodox Christian prayer book and I have been going on the OCA website and printing out the text/rubric for the Divine Liturgy of the week. I wish there was something that was all in one like a missal.
It is a conundrum! I rather like the UOC-USA book for this purpose, but (a) if you try to use it at an English liturgy that uses a different translation, you will stay confused, and (b) even if (a) is inapplicable, the UOC-USA prayer book does not reproduce the readings. It only cites to them. Thanks for dropping by! More content is on the way, so stay tuned!
Yeah the Anthologion was/is a bit of a let down. There is a four volume Italian edition that is a bit better - although there are a few odd translation choices in that set too.
I live in Vietnam and Orthodoxy is in its infancy and they dont have such things and the Government hates religion in any shape or form as its Communist.@@TheRomanOrthodox

Try the Lancelot Andrew Press St. Ambrose prayer book, Western Rite Orthodox prayers.

Send back the prayer book and give your sister back all of her money.

What’s the name of the four volume set
HI there and God bless you - which prayer book do you think is best then ?
I would go with whatever is published by your jurisdiction.
