Man, I wish there were more videos to this channel. I've been a Protestant for 32 years and am moving toward Orthodoxy. I'm watching and reading anything I can on the subject. Thanks for this, Father. I'll subscribe just in case you pop up again 😂
I'm in shock, to be honest. I started to listen a lot about Christian Orthodoxy, I told my mother I wanted to convert, but because I live in another country. I'll be away from home for a couple of months, I'm studying by myself before I start connecting with a church. My mother brought me two icons from her holidays as a present: Jesus Christ and Holy Theotokos. I put it on my bedroom in a corner and started praying there. Then I thought to myself, without any knowledge, I'm listening to very basic videos because I was raised a Buddhist. I don't know why, but I feel I need a candle. So I put a really nice one that I had that I had never used, and I was using it for a special occasion. I bought the OSB because I never read The Bible. I tried with other editions, and it was hard. It is an amazing edition because it has a lot of notes and guidance, which I need, and Included it there. Everything is by instinct. Thank you for this. I'm just surprised how my natural intuition after praying made me think of this without ever knowing that you recommend having a house icon and altar corner.
I think the best prayer book to use, is the one used in the church you attend. You then become very familiar with the translation and can more easily learns prayers, psalms etc by heart. ☦️
Father John! Amazing to see you. We corresponded a bit long before your priesthood when you were at DTTW. You sent me magazines and a few icons. Always cherished that. God bless you!
I really enjoyed this video Fr. I’m Roman Catholic but I really want to be a part of the eastern Byzantine Greek/Russian Orthodox Church. I follow as much as I can online though I find the words used in orthodox difficult to remember or even to learn their meaning.
i bought one and i love it for when we're doing some quick short prayers, rather than when i use the charcoal, with our children. churchsupplies.jordanville.org
That Theotokos icon behind you is wonderfully endearing (the blue background is special). Is it custom? Thank you for this video (I'm very new and learning). Lord Jesus Christ Have Mercy on Us All 🙏🏻
The icon of the blessed Theotokos shown behind you is one that i really would prefer- where can i purchase a copy of this one? It is also in my Orthodox Study Bible ❤ thank you
I want 4 Prayer corners in my room :) representing the four corners of the earth and the 4 archangels. My creative side is going nuts haha, almost want to invest in a smaller bed so i have more room lol!
We are supposed to put the icon(s) towards Sunrise (East). If that is not possible, the is allowed to be towards South or North too, but not towards Sunset.
Yes, it is part of the Paraklesis chanted by the monks of Vatopedi Monastery on Mt Athos. You can buy the CD here: www.monastiriaka.gr/en/paraklesis-holy-virgin-mary-paramithia-p-361.html
I had a Greek Orthodox father and an Irish Catholic mother. Best of both worlds. Can anyone explain, why in my whole life I have never met a Greek Orthodox Christian named Timothy or Matthew (my brother's name)? Yet,so common among the Irish, despite the fact they are Greek name. Ma Theos and Timi Theos Just curious.
I don't mean any disrespect, but can I ask what faith or religion this is about. It sounds catholic to me. But I just started my path so I'm not familiar with all the terms and everything. Again forgive me please if I was rude.
It is an Antiochian Orthodox Church. We have all jurisdictions present here, plus the so-called Orthodox Church in America, which is under the Russian omnophorion. We are essentially a mission country, a small but growing minority in a mainly heterodox country. With people from so many Orthodox countries here, there were bound to be jurisdictional issues.
How about having people read the Bible’ that would be the 1st before any other book 📕leads us to all other books.BUT not the book of God our Lord am just speaking truth
@@ColtraneTaylor huh? Again, relax and show some respect. This man has gone through the whole process of becoming a priest, he has blessed and communed and baptized and buried who knows how many people and you're worried about some inflections in his voice? You mean because it''s more American? But of course it is; Antiochian Orthodoxy as practiced in the Middle East would have differences with how it is in the US. Antiochian Orthodoxy here in the Philippines would also be different than how it is in the Middle East. That's how it is as the culture of the place also influences it.

Small differences in translation. The 1960 was translated by Archimandrite Lazarus Moore. It is very poetic!
