That's correct! Since Miroslav left the band, or was asked to leave - Report was never the same again! And with my huge respect and, may I say, love to Jaco, I think, that Miroslav's years in the band, were the most creative and 'Avant-garde' years for Weather Report. DVD 'Live in Germany (1971)' confirm this in 100% !!! Don't hesitate to watch it. It is hard to believe, he was only 24 !!! It has got that amazing 'conversation' between all the instruments and both electric and acoustic bass is very, very important element here. It has got feeling of 'danger' and anybody can fuck up any moment... I could probably compare it to King Crimson concerts in trio (1974). Miroslav gave great concert in London yesterday ( with fantastic pianist Emil Viklicky - very nice and soulful person) and he is in top for all the time!!! :)
I miss listening to Miroslav. We heard him in India way back in the 1960s and since then he is one of my favorite bass players. In 2008 I even asked (another great) Eddie Gomez what Miroslav was up to. He had such high regards for Miroslav..
Interesting to hear him mention Jaco. This is the only time I've come across him saying anything about him, although I've known for years about his thoughts on Zawinul.
Great interview! Wow to see Miroslav since 1985. He is the man I auditioned for at NEC; he had me improvise a bit, and I wasn’t sure how I did, but I got the nod and began the most exciting journey studying with incredible musicians in Boston. I also saw him, George Garzone and Bob Moses in a Boston loft perform incredible trio music up close! Wow Thank you Miroslav for making a young man’s dream come true.
The first time I saw Miroslav was in the 1972 at a small night club in San Francisco. They were promoting there first album in its entirely. I was in awe of him he was a very tall and his presence was very striking. His bass playing was of something like I never heard before. His playing was very much like Jaco in that their unique way of bring the bass to the forefront was very different something that never had been done before. That is one concert that was the beginning of what was to become a long interest in my quest for jazz.
i felt that miroslav vitous originated the weather report band.... you can tell by listening to the 1st album....its light years ahead all the others without miroslav
Miroslav played very very few gigs with Miles, maybe somewhere between 1-4 gigs at the most. So, the odds of there being a recording that exists of Miroslav performing with Miles are very low. Very unlikely but anything is possible.
2:18 Well, scandinavian jazz musicians draw material from folk lore already in the 1950s. The albums "Jazz på Svenska", "Jazz på ryska", "Jazz på ungerska" (recorded early 1962 to late 1967) are pretty well known even outside Scandinavia. I like this guys playing, but he's a bragger, like Zawinul. :)
It's like that in any art..you play creative and you might not earn a lot of money or you go more commercial and can make more money, but its not fulfilling as your art.

Great interview! He's so alert and honest. Does anyone know if there are any bootlegs of any of his performances with Miles?

Possibly, somewhere. You’d really have to do some digging. Glad you liked the interview. Thanks for weighing in!

Could you please tell me what is that music at the end? It's something by Miroslav for sure but I'm after the name.
Is it that 70's Sennheiser mike, great sound
Thanks, Josip! Actually, it’s an Apogee. Love it!

Sorry Miros, JACO is not "close" to Genius, JACO is the Genius....don't be Jealous, it won't help!!!
@Al Gordon Morons like you never get Jaco...good luck 👍
@Al Gordon no disrespect intended, but I tend to think the same. Overrated.
