  • I had to re-spool a Shimano Tiagra 130 and I had 3 options. Straight hollow core at 600 yards. All mano line at 750 yards or top shot with 1000 yards and not a completely full reel!
Next lure drop is set from April 21, 12PM HST.

Nice work Nick! If you go around the empty spool a few times with doubled braid and tie a uni knot it will bite in hard and you won’t need the tape on the spool which can trap saltwater and cause corrosion on the spool. But it’s all good either way, as long as you put that braid on tight! Hollow braid and the splice is more than 100% and that braid will last for many years, with just a topshot to replace vs the full mono. It works out cheaper in the long run.

So 300lb hollow to 150 mono? Would 200lb hollow not be good enough? I mean, it’s still rated 50lbs above the monofilament.

Aloha, the Penn International reels are still made in the US. Help support them by buying American, and be willing to pay more to send the message that Americans will pay more to support American manufacturing rather than cheaper Chinese gear.

Headquarters are in Philadelphia. But reels are made and assembled in China since 2005/2006. Unless something has changed. But all reels still say made in China.

@@RAHfishing Google it please, you will discover that your information isn't 100% correct. The large reels are still made in the US. Given how price conscious everyone is, I don't know how long that will last. People say American made matters and then shop for the cheapest which often means it has to come from overseas where labor costs are silly.
