For me, I first bought the ICAN Wheels and they were very light but they seemed to me to be not as stiff as I liked. And they felt to be lacking lateral stiffness when I climbed in a standing position and do sprints. I was hoping for better performing wheels overall, but I did like how light the ICAN Wheels were they just simply felt not as solid as other road bike wheels I have used over many years like ROVAL, Easton, and Reynolds Wheels. I purchased the HYPER Wheels and from the moment I opened the box I was sold. The stiffest and most solid feeling wheels I have ever used are the HYPER Wheels. No lateral movements when standing climbing. And they accelerate just as I hoped a Road Bike wheel could. I have been on HYPER wheels and LUN Wheels for multiple years now and I have not had a single negative issue with the HYPER Wheels. In fact, I hit a boulder during a race one time using the HYPER Wheels when racing in the Philippines. I crashed extremely hard and I was sure my rear wheel was destroyed. However, the HYPER Wheel took the hit from the giant rock at race speed and literally has not one reflection of the smash. The wheel rolls perfectly true still and you could never tell there was a giant accident to the wheels. I was amazed that the wheels could take such a giant hit and not have the slightest show of damage. The ICAN Wheels roll nice and smooth on the flat roads but do feel soft and not quite at the performance level I was hoping for. The Hyper Wheels I would buy again. Also, I use the Rim Brake versions, so cannot comment on the Disc Brake models.
Similar experience with my Hyper 50s disk - to date they’ve traveled approx 12000 pretty rough & harsh Km & still roll fast & true just like day one .. extremely happy! I have no issue recommending Winspace Hypers. Personally, I don’t believe it is worth upgrading to the new Hypers even though I’d like to 👍
Lmao currently riding the ICAN aero's for two years, and they are very light but I Agree 100% they lack stiffness for when climbing out saddle, sprinting or cornering very hard. Now waiting for the hyper 2023. Hope I will be as pleased as you are
The ICAN Wheels do roll very good and I was happy with the purchase, it was just the slight feeling of softness the wheels had. It is not a bad knock on them, just a feeling, and then the side-to-side play on the standing climbing part I was not pleased with. For me, this has always been a big issue, because many of my workouts when climbing are standing climb drills. So the wheel rubbing the brake pads sort of drives me crazy! The HYPER Wheels were extremely light and extra stiff, and not a hint of side-to-side movements when climbing. This fast made me only want to use the HYPER Wheels, even when I have many other brands to select from and use.
Nice break down! Thank you for the extensive review! Regarding price, Ican has local warehouses. So for me living in Europe, I bought the Ican Alpha 45 wheels from the EU Warehouse. The shipping was free and no taxes. Admitedly the price was slightly higher (less than 100 euro) than if bought from China but stil, no import tax or shipping costs! So the cost for me was 575 Euro for the wheels. That is a bargain for decent wheels!
I’m 5000km in to a set of ICAN FL40 rim brake wheels that I’ve setup tubeless. They are great for the $800 I paid delivered free from their Sydney warehouse. Climb nicely without pad rub. Had a couple of podiums with local club races. All in all, very happy.
I'm really great at my job, it's great to see and watch and listen to this guy talk and take apart rim's, No bs, or fake rambling, just a switched on guy 🤩
third set of icans just ordered my 2nd set with dt240 hubs delivered to me for $950 with discount 10k miles on others with zero issues..... 1300 gram claimed weight with 240 hubs cant beat that!
I have the ICAN aero 40s and my buddy has the 50s. I think the 40s are the better wheel and they are impressive in ride comfort, stiffness, and speed. I do feel like the 50s are not quite stiff enough probably due to the light weight overall but I’ve been very, very pleased with the 40s.
I'd love to get the guys at Trilogy Cycles to offer their opinions on bottom brackets. These guys know their stuff and based on what Hambini says there is some serious defects in bottom bracket designs and quality control.
If you buy the winspace wheels and you don’t wanna pay shipping, just use the free option. I got my wheels within 9 days of ordering. Wheels have been great so far!
Hey Cam, I have a pair of ICAN wheels as my first carbon wheels and I agree with Aaron at Trilogy Cycles. Upon inspection of trueness, dishing, bearings, and hubs, it’s well built. For the most part, these wheels work fine. The difference then, is the technology and manufacturing of the hub, spokes, and how it’s all put together before it’s shipped out. And then, the Hypers are next on my list of wheels to purchase and test out. Those carbon spokes, while proprietary and hard to source, look amazing! I’m glad you get a few free spokes for when they need replacement. Thanks again Cam!
I have a pair on ICAN aero 50's and they've been working well for me. I've crashed twice in crits, scratching and gouging the rims and they've held up fine. Main disadvantage I've found is that they're not great in crosswinds and bearings aren't 100% smooth, but they spin well.
I have the Hyper 50's rim brake version....I couldn't be happier. I'm running 25's on them tubeless mostly on my TT bike, but just bought a backup road bike for use on inclement days and on the trainer. I rode the Hypers tonight and they're such great wheels. I've put about 3000 km on them and they perform like the day I took them out of the box. When there is money in the budget for a new set of wheels it will probably be to upgrade the wheelset that came with my principal road bike....currently running Vision SC55 Disc that are ok. Would love to upgrade them to the Hyper D67 wheels....
@@CamNicholls I don't know that I'll ever feel like my ability warrants spending more than "winspace money" on a wheel upgrade. But that being said - what is the comparison from the Hyper wheels to the likes of the top well known brands like Zipp, ENVE, HED, or Lightweight for example.

Great breakdown on these rims Cam and Aaron at Trilogy was frank, honest and realistic. I have heard that the Windspace Hyper’s with ceramic bearings in their hubs, can wear quickly due to the baring hardness v’s the metal bearing casing. Did Aaron comment about this at all?
@@CamNicholls yes as I research rim options, I’ve noted that ceramic doesn’t always mean better. Sure there can be weight savings and performance enhancing gains, but weighed against the extra cost to buy ceramic over steel bearing hubs and the cost of maintenance and if one isn’t racing, then the test of commonsense should be applied. There are still some great rims out there running S/steel bearings.
I have a set of ican fl 40 on a trek 1200 and I hit a really nasty pothole literally about the size of a toilet bowl going 16mph or so on 25s at 120psi nothing happed to wheels or spokes 2200 miles now they work great. Rim brake tracks look great very minimal wear.

Very informative and well presented. I have watched quite a few of your videos but this is the one that made me finally hit subscribe. Thanks for all the great content =)
Do you happen to have a video of your mechanic analysing the hubs inside Caden wheels? I have heard mixed things about them so curious to hear an independent review like this...
Nice job. Feel like so many people over the years, and rightfully so often, are against a Chinese open mold wheel/frame, but lately a few brands, albeit at higher prices clearly, are producing a really good product, hyper being one of those. With that said owned many brands, and ride one of the older HongFu 45mm wheelset/rim brakes, still a really good wheel when built up properly with quality hubs/spokes, never had a single issue with them. Reynolds, good wheel all around. Zipp, garbage. Soft/flexy, terrible hubs...not worth the money at all. As a sprinter, they are terrible even under leadout loads. Anyway...good stuff, keep it coming.
Thanks for the suggestion Thomas. I have a few priority projects lined up so doubt I’ll get to it. They’re 50 hour jobs these edits so can only do so much. Cheers
Thanks for the detailed info Cam, nice work! Any thoughts on Elite Wheels ENT or similar from Ali Express? Looks like you can get a set for about $700AUD delivered but seeing the differences in hubs from this review makes me wonder about the "quality" of them.
I just bought the Elite ENT wheels and they are decent for the price. Although they are my first carbon wheels so I don't have experience to compare to anything else. I would best describe the difference from the half decent alum stock rims to the ENT's as "noticeable" but not significant. I had my local bike shop fit them too in case there was anything wrong with them. My verdict would be they are a good "first carbon wheel", or if you are on a strict budget.
Fantastic video - thank you for so much information! would you say that the lack of stiffness in the ICANs would be less of a problem to me being a 62 kg rider? or maybe even an advantage to maybe have some more comfort? curious to hear your take on that!
Idea for your next vid: take these wheels out on a gusty day and give impressions on how well they combat crosswinds. Many lighter riders like me have avoided aero wheels for fear of handling in crosswinds - nobody on RUclips seems to compare crosswind performance. You’d be the first! Thanks.
I wonder if the the speed limit in the decent was due to the faulty/rough bearings mentioned in the video. It would make sense and if it is the case, it would be cheap and easy to rectify.
Hey Cam! Just on the topic of Carbon Wheels, Can you check out the Prime RR-50 V3 from wiggle. Not a lot of videos about it. and they are like 650 euros.
Nice efforts on those tests, cranking out 400 W time after time and these 80 km/h downhill blasts. Hang on to your bike mechanic, he seems to know his stuff. Can you say INTENSITY ?
Thanks for the detailed breakdown of the 3 wheelsets Cam.I see a big problem with the Ican only gives you 30 days to find a problem, postage quickly adds up to a cheaper wheelset losing it's advantage. With the Hypers I would prefer steel bearings as the race will then be of the same hardness.Ceramics are only good new with matching hardness of race. Is the new Hyper profile of 45/54 an improvement real world?
That was originally the plan but Winspace launched the new Hypers, so four wheels is too much for one video. I thought I'd do the Cadens VS the Creative wheels.
Hi! 🙂 Maybe u could help to decide what brand and which carbon wheels should I get? My rides are ussualy 30-100km with 100-400 meters of total climbs, so pretty flat. I think I should get around 45-50mm deep wheels? I could buy new zipp 303s from local shop for around 700 EU, or it would worth to spend around 1170 eu for Windpace hyper wheels? Or maybe something else? Also prefer louder hub sound as there where i live many pedestrians walking on bike paths and i dont like bells 🙂
Since Winspace is continuing to invest and produce high end modern rim brake wheels which is rare these days, it would be nice to see a review of the the rim brake version of new Winspace. Cheers
Deep down I feel that way about all carbon wheels but I’ve got too many to test! They are definitely harsher/stiffer but some people like that so depends on what you’re looking for
Great review, thank you Cam. Vids like this help us buyers decide (I still haven’t 😂). So, did you ask your mechanic if he’d part any of his hard earned on any of those wheels?
I don't like to make the call myself. I leave the data and info up for interpretation. ICAN's definitely offer a solid option if you can get that postage down.
Unless you're a racing beast, I'd say the ican offer better value and make more sense. It also feels nice to know you can break your kit and not cry too much over it.
TIRE an ICAN wheels?? What tire u guys use on ican wheels ? I have aero 50 for 2 nd season I like them but the problem is to change tire , they are so tight I use conti 5000 almost impassable to change 2 bike shops have problem to change tube !!
Talking about spoke twisting tension with flat spokes where you should always use a tool on the flat part to prevent any twisting for aero reasons (obviously!!) sounds a bit stupid to me

Problem is the wind gusts change all the time. Too many variables within each run. People would grill me haha
So from the numbers the ICANs appear identical for aerodynamics until over 60km/h?
Have you tried any of the wheels from Elitewheels and Light Bicycle? I would be interested to know how those stack up.
I wonder if the the speed limit in the decent was due to the faulty/rough bearings mentioned in the video. It would make sense and if it is the case, it would be cheap and easy to rectify.
I reckon Nelson! Didn't want to say as I'll leave that for others to decide. Aaron thinks so too.
Elite wheels i love em!
Cheers Simon, I have only ridden the new Hypers a handful of times so the sagged profile is hard to quantify, but I do like that style.
Yeah I wish they have steel bearing option for hyper
Cracking vid, mate. That was great!
Cheers mate
Can you have a dive into trifox. Specifically the x 10, it looks like a cipollini but isn't, would just like your opinion on it.
Thanks a lot that was helpful!
I replaced my hyper 1st gen bearings with NTNs. Very easy to do yourself if you have a small amount of know how and the right tools
check out Farsports wheels. been very happy with them, both road and MTB.
Strewth Dobbo! I taught him everything he knows... 😉
Everything haha ! Shout out to Donny the master
The master of pissing people off!
I'd be interested to see a comparison between the new Hypers and Caden decadence wheels.
That was originally the plan but Winspace launched the new Hypers, so four wheels is too much for one video. I thought I'd do the Cadens VS the Creative wheels.
The aero gain from covered spoke niplesis very little anyways, you'd have to be able to hold 50 km/h
Thanks for the test
Farsports yeoleo n hyper wheels. I think those are main Chinese wheel companies w good reputation
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Aiden, I reckon there's quite a few emerging.
Hello great video and nice to see the knowledge from Aaron at BS16 bicycle soloutions.
Great video 👍
great detailed video
Great video hard work appreciated!
Cheers Scott.
What about the Winspace hyper 23 SE?
Will old hyper lun support 12s shimano casette?
Since Winspace is continuing to invest and produce high end modern rim brake wheels which is rare these days, it would be nice to see a review of the the rim brake version of new Winspace. Cheers
Need a rim brake bike haha
Got my 2023 Hyper R33, 3 weeks ago.
I'm 194cm, 95 kg (fit), and i can tell you: they are amazing.
Reason to buy a new rim brake I guess 😜….
@@matsrekdal3065 thank you!
elite wheels, seraph, trifox wheels are literally 450$ best wheels ive ever owned. blows hunt and HED out the water
They say the winspace wheels are too harsh a wheel for just everyday riding would you feel the same?
Deep down I feel that way about all carbon wheels but I’ve got too many to test! They are definitely harsher/stiffer but some people like that so depends on what you’re looking for
Great review, thank you Cam. Vids like this help us buyers decide (I still haven’t 😂). So, did you ask your mechanic if he’d part any of his hard earned on any of those wheels?
No he’d build his own I reckon
@@CamNicholls cheers. And thanks again for the video
Quality content, cheers 👌👌
Cheers Rob
Great video. Do a speed test at normal speeds. Riding at 400 watts and 80 kmh is not normal to 80% of weekend riders.
One run is at 300 watts don’t forget and I’m 80kg so think it watts per kilo
thank you for the interesting video.
Who won between the 3 wheel sets? It wasn't clear to me. I did see ICAN has USA warehouse. That could decrease shipping cost in the USA.
