E46 M3 Bilstein B16 coilovers!

- After two whole years of sitting in the box and a million different excuses it was time to treat the daily driver E46 M3 to some coilovers from Bilstein. The installation is straight forward and out of the box they are great quality and work extremely well. After some setup tweaks I’m extremely happy with the results! Unboxing through to first impressions are I’d absolutely recommend them to others!

It happens i also decides to install them after 6 months of receive the kit so lets go i have done on my 323i with a blistein b6 and now iam going to proceed with b16 on m3

That is one good looking M3 man. The suspension has really helped. It looks so cool with the standard boot lid and CSL diffuser as well. I reckon a CSL bumper would finish this car off.

The video I have been waiting for, very close to pulling the trigger on the kw v2 but this video answers all my questions! Motorworks is close to my car, wonder if they would supply and fit!?

Absolutely love you’re m3 and alway look out for it and rewatch previous uploads, I take great inspiration from it and the parts you choose for it, I’ve now owned my e46 m3 for many years now and visibly it is the same as yours but in silver grey excluding the big brakes and I opted for manual. Just done my water pump last Sunday, and now have my front brakes to do and purple tag rack and track rod assembly, steering coupler and everything associated to go on it ASAP, it certainly is a labour of love these cars.
Excellent sounds like a great example! The purple tag is a good mod I had one on my previous E30 and loved it. Mine is also manual btw it was the silver car that I cut up that was SMG.
@@thedownshiftchannel On a side note I’ve had an absolute saga that I could write a novel about, flickering main beam on passenger side. Ballasts changed, swapped over, ignitors, bulbs and so on many many many hours of stress and hundreds of pounds. 😁🤪

@@thedownshiftchannel After all the parts I’ve changed and interchanged it’s not done it in 9/10 journeys now which is in my eyes is now fixed as it did every journey I went on. All I did since all the other stuff I tried was sorted water ingress in my rear led taillight, on the connector on the back of bulb manipulated the metal inner and out connectors to make a better secure fitting ( not that even shaking it caused an issue prior) and charged up my battery which was only over a year old, it did take 7/8hrs on the charger too after a rough winter in Scotland, so I’m not even 100% what sorted it now which is annoying and not where I wanted to be. OPEX and all that.

Bilsteins are mega. Id have them on the e24 if they did a proper height adjustable kit for the damn thing.
Yeah it’s a shame they don’t really but your car did feel like it rode well and was far better in the corner than standard!
How does it compare to stock? I wanted a set of these but was put off by people saying you can only track coilovers
Its actually nicer than stock on the road. Having the adjustment means you can set them for the conditions so could run a little softer for road or harder for track etc. OEM is fairly stiff anyway
@@thedownshiftchannel That's what I would hope for with a kit as nice as this. Dunno why but my local garage says coilovers are horrid on british roads but if you can get them comparable to stock then I don't see how that could be possible. Might have to grab a set! Any downsides?
@@calypsovega420 it’s possible they just haven’t tried a car that’s set up well with good quality coilovers as it really can have hard spring rates or bas settings/ valving that doesn’t suit British roads. Other than spending money I’d say it’s only positive really. KW also have some good options as another quality brand

Lots of people have asked over the years and I couldn’t find them again. It held up to so many hits and so much abuse too it’s a shame they don’t still sell them
@thedownshiftchannel ahh that's a shame, I bought one from SSDD Motorsport over 10 years ago, but unfortunately, they don't do the exact ones like this anymore.

What settings did you end up settling on front and rear?
I believe I was happy around 6 front 4 rear in the end if I remember right

I adjusted a few times and settled at 6 and 4 it helps to have the fronts a little faster for steering feel and turn in

@@fearthereaper5663 no but my good friend is a GT3 race chassis engineer and he does so after trying different settings and trying his recommendations this is where it ended up so thanks for your opinion

@@fearthereaper5663 based on what? Clearly a very successful chassis engineer and my direct experience is incorrect and I just imagined it then because you must be correct. Oh and the other people who run the same coilovers and have had the same experience and funnily enough ended up running the same settings
