@@-coolerlegothings-9784 sadly they couldn't even have that. The anomaly also prevents forced loss of consciousness. You can still fall asleep naturally, but you can't be knocked out or sedated. So you can't even just put yourself into a coma, which would basically be close enough in that world.

This is the worst scenario I can think of. Imagine the most painful death you can think of, disease, fire, radiation, falling etc. and forever feeling that pain never having the release of death
But the pain would subside some day like radiation falling and fire the diseases are the problem but there would probably be some workaround you could hypothetically cut of the nerves that cause pain or use drugs to minimize the pain but the people who were born without pain receptors are good technically they don't have to feel the pain that what's happenjng
@@powerof1514 I don’t think cutting of pain receptors work in OmegaK scenarios (I think cause they’re part of the nervous system directly connected to the brain, so they’re included) and neither do pain killers if they’re unable to circulate (due to breakdown of the body, for instance).
Conscious awareness of your nervous system doesn’t stop even if you’re brain is broken down, the neurones still somehow communicate, your consciousness just becomes muddled and in even more pain.
Or at least I think that’s how it works. As it’s seems implied in the Omega-K articles and tales I’ve seen that it functions like scp-2718. I do need to read more of them though.

this is terrifying, think about it, people with dementia will suffer forever, people who were about to die a second later after Omega K, they would regret not dying sooner, suicide attempts would increase, our memories would fade away, since our memory isnt infinite, its horrifying
in hsr theres an affliction referred to as being mara struck where immortals essentially reach a sort of limit to how much emotions and memories they can handle, which results in major or complete loss of humanity. while an omega k scenario doesnt involve the biological change that turns the mara struck into monsters, i do know that loss of humanity without the loss of life is truly one of the worst forms of existence

You can never enjoy everything as much as you used to cause you know you can always do it again if you want kids you won't be allowed to have kids if your suffering from something painful you can't die and you will have to live the rest of your life with it

Omega-k is maginally better, since you are able theoretically able get your brain into better circumstances eventually, if you're rich enough. Full body transplants and robot suits specifically designed to house brains will become avaliable by the 2100s

omega-k is better because even if you can't die, your cognitive functions will deteriorate to the point where you don't know what's going on anymore.

This should be some sort of obscure piece of lore for the true SCP fans.
For the first few centuries, omega-K will be absolutely, mind-bogglingly terrifying. But after those centuries, we would have moved on, and could've taken on digital bodies or clones with no true souls in them, just empty for you to take. This is how humanity as a whole can turn something disgusting into something beautiful.
And then you gotta live through the vaccuum of the eventual end of the universe
For the O5 council who has access to the Fountain of Youth, they outright would be truly immortal. At that point circulating the water of the fountain of youth would likely stop the extremely old age problem

Great video! Though, you made bringing back death a question of whether the Foundation would do it. They absolutely would, the question is whether they could. Originally, the Omega-K scenario became a reality when the Foundation, scared shitless by 2718, accidentally neutralized death while trying to contain it. Or it was sent by a deity, if you follow the events of the latest 001. In both cases, a deathless Earth has been a nightmarish scenario, so the Foundation wouldn't use the "we contain" rule here.
There is no cannon.
This is like making a bus that you can't exit. Seems handy, but is actually evil.
The existence of this scenario as a horror story really shows the context most people think in when it comes to death. Of course this iteration of it is dangerous, as it includes a suddenly massive increase in insect population among other things. What scares me most is priority 3 of the foundation, research of a "terminal replacement". That the only way we can perceive a solution to this, is to invent an artificial reaper, to extinguish life and consciousness, instead of finding a way to adapt and live with immortality. The Stockholm Syndrome humanity has with death terrifies me, and I think most people are terrified to be alive, a society wide passively suicidal attitude. Think about what this scenario makes you feel, what you are afraid of and what you really want.
There are better options. In the same way you would address someone contemplating harming themselves, by trying to convince them there's reason to live, I want to do the same on the broader scale. Even in a horrifying situation like this, the worst iteration of immortality, there is hope. Not hope that we can die, but hope that we can live. This happens in a world of anomalies. A world where the soul is very likely real, ghosts exist, the mind is mutable and strange. The time given by immortality, the ways it seems to violate entropy presents an answer to longer term horrors. Take it, use it, embrace life. Of course it's scary to imagine living forever, but being alive at all is scary. If I was in this scenario as a normal person? I'd start demanding information on how to maintain my body, to grow, find the magic or supernatural strangeness that must exist for this situation.
I'd likely join the Serpent's Hand, or the kinder Proto-Nälkän cults. Or of course, you may be able to answer the horrors of biological life. Crave the strength and certainty of steel, and aspire to the purity of the blessed machine. As even in an era of death, many will cling to their flesh, as if it will not decay and fail them.
Similarly, I have always found the 'be careful what you wish for' response to the desire for immortality to be kind of a cop-out. Sour grapes.
Have you ever read Sandman? I think it's in the story 'The Sound of Her Wings' that Gaiman does a rather satisfying subversion of that idea.

To be fair, the O5s aren't exactly neutral on the matter, and most significantly O5-4 who got project DAMNERUNG started in the first place to 'contain' death in order to allow the O5s to live forever. It went wrong, death was terminated and omega-k happened.
Also, it wasn't 12 who said that in the actual canon, it was 4 with Emily Young as his pet researcher releasing it

Wouldn’t they want to reverse Omega K? They do contain anomalies but they sometimes terminate them like 682? So surely they must want to stop this from either outlook. Either from the outlook of containing it or terminating it

As an example does this mean you can get shot in the head, flop to the floor and just get back up? or does it mean you can get shot in the head and you just squeeze the bullet out of your head? Either is terrifying to think about...
You get shot in the head, you fall over. Your brain is damaged, but you will not die as a result. You will, however, suffer the entire time.
You can still suffer injury, you just can't forcibly end brain activity. People can still fall asleep for example, but sedatives don't work anymore, not even hospital knockout gas. Basically you'd still be alive, just with massive loss of blood and parts of your brain. Best case scenario would probably be like some lucky survivors of extreme brain damage, who show some changes in their personality but otherwise are the same people. What's more likely in the world of ΩK is extreme brain damage, maybe even becoming a total vegetable, but just never quite dying.

One of the tales actually addressed this! Wilson's Wildlife Solutions borrowed an scp that kills things by retroactively sterilising their parents (causing the target to dissappear because grandfather paradox) and incorporated it into a pesticide to stop insects from reproducing!
