It makes me wonder what would happen if the foundation did this to any ghost SCP? Day 142 of asking the O5 to use SCP-1968 to create a universe in which 682 doesn't exist.
Here's a quirk of this SCP that I think most people overlook: Remember; BELIEF IS THE KEY; you only end up in eternal torture land if you believe that you will. However - consider that the resurrected O5 was initially the only member of the council who elected _not_ to use anomalies to extend their lifespan. Based on that, he clearly wasn't afraid of death; if he was, he would've been fortifying his body with anomalies. No, he didn't fear death at all. And if BELIEF IS THE KEY, there's just no way he could've ended up in that hell. There's no way a man who believes death is eternal torture would embrace death the way the O5 did. My theory is that he never experienced that hell and that agony. He died and was at peace. However, when the rest of the council used _anomalies_ to resurrect him, they ended up creating a new anomaly. _O5_ IS SCP-2718; as a byproduct of the resurrection, they gained an anomalous trait that 1) misled them to believe they had been trapped in this state, and 2) causes anyone whom O5 informs of that afterlife _and believes in it_ to go there when they die, forever. Which makes the fate of the one dictating the actual article all the more tragic. If they'd just let themselves get gassed in the O5 room, everything would've been fine... probably. None would remember so none would believe.

There is a counter for this SCP. SCP-158 the soul extractor. It is a mechanic arm that can pull what seems to be the soul from your body if you are living. It may work on victims of SCP 2718.
I like to believe that SCP- 2718 effects doesn't limit itself to just that death, but it itself allows one to choose what happens after death and that's why it's so highly secretive. Like O5-1 made it to make it seem like that, making you subconscious believe it, making said effect work I personally like to think that it can make one do whatever they want after death. It would make sense because one could use such power to gain unimaginable power and chaos havock so great that it can make even the Chaos King look like a 5 year old with TNT in a Minecraft world.

(Unless he left out that Roger believed in some afterlife prior) I assume scp 2718 is has its properties because it is the only known afterlife available. Nothing beats concrete evidence, especially to anyone who is able to get their hands on this file. In reality prior to Roger this afterlife probably only affected non-religious people, or anyone who had no afterlife to go to. I guess.
The video got the story wrong, it doesn't only happen if you're aware of it, the O5's just tell themselves that before amnesticizing themselves to cope with the horror

...ah god, I *JUST* got over reading this last month... probably one of the most terrifying existential horrors in the SCP multiverse. And these guys are likely on the right track with it being a cognitohazard, thought about it & realized something: the person they brought back was one of the O5, who're all anomalous in one way or another. Plus they were brought back using a unique one-time anomalous process... ...and last I looked the living aren't meant to know fully what the afterlife(s) are supposed to look like. So who's to say this horrifying fate is what really awaits all of us, and not the freak aftereffects of different anomalies interacting with each other? Because TBH what he went through sounds a LOT like the aftereffects of SCP-3448, which is a whole can of worms all its own...
Hey, to anyone that may need to hear this: This isn't real. The SCP Foundation itself is purely fiction, sometimes loosely based of of real objects. There's nothing to worry about. Even if it was real, we don't need to worry. The only reason this is what happens after death (again, in the purely fictional universe of SCP) is because the people it affects know that it is true, because it comes from the O5 council; however, as long as we don't believe it, it won't happen. It's ok, you're safe. This absolutely will not happen to you ❤
Lol the part about believing it being what causes it is just a theory from the scp declassified reddit post about it, it doesn't actually say that in the actual scp article, yeah the 05 member says "maybe belief is the key" one time in passing, but it's never actually confirmed because they didn't do any actual testing -_- For all we know she's just telling herself that to make herself feel better, the story is intentionally really vague with this

It might be Sheol to describe the realm of the dead. Sometimes described as a pit and imagined to be a literal place under the earth, Sheol is where the dead all of them, good and bad - go when they die
Belief is the key, and I believe that what Roger experienced was from the artifact, not what happens to everyone else after they die. We don't exactly have anyone else to back up the claim.
There are those in real life that have seen through the jaws of Death. Those that have been beyond the boundary, and returned. This is not what happens.
Tbh there are more than enough other SCPs that shows the afterlife. Like a demon that doesn't lie or a chair and a desk for the devil. Or heck, an Angel that guards the entrance to heaven.
I think the knowing about SCP 2718 doesn't change your afterlife. The SCP 2718 is the real afterlife and O5 designated it as kognitohazard because the thought the way they reacted when they heard about it was its effect. Thats why they used amnestics on themselfs just to wipe this memory from them. Truly one of the most terrifing SCPs out there if you think about it
The video got that part completely wrong, nothing about the article makes your afterlife like that because that is just afterlife. It was created to get the word out in a way that it couldn't deleted and the article is hidden to stop mass panic. If Overseers get scared imagine everyone else.
Bruh I discovered this scp a few days ago and am scared to death about it, right in the middle of a major existential crisis... and now SCP explained reminds me of it ? cmon...
I was hearing this SCP was the actual Pestilence that SCP 049 is referring too, people he kills and turn to zombies are actually saved from that fate. so 049 is actually saving them. I also heard it was caused by an entity to feed off pain, who is the true pestilence. in another story, Even 682 was disgusted by it, and the foundation freed him to allow him to destroy humanity to rid the entity and free the souls.
I've heard that this SCP is just some omega effect or something and it dissapears after a while and you go to the true afterlife, but you only remembered feeling the pain.
July 2nd of last year I had a major heart attack (3 stints and valve replacement). I was clinically dead 3 separate times for a total of 17 minutes. There is absolutely nothing after.
I have always thought that upon death we just restart immediately from birth. The exact same life on repeat forever. Its torture if you lived it wrong and paradise if you did everything right. There are no sins that can prevent you from getting into this "afterlife", so just do what makes you happy. It makes me feel very at peace with death but also makes it more likely for me to press the reset button with a big knife.

If Belief is the Key, then doesn't that mean 2718 isn't actually true either, since it's only belief in that outcome that causes it to happen? Really, it means all religions are right, because you create your own afterlife.
Supposedly dopamine floods the brain when you die (it also floods the brain when you're asleep, dreaming) and all the synapses in your brain supposedly all firei. That, coupled with the stories of people dying but being resuscitated, led me to believe that the afterlife truly is whatever you believe it is - because it's simply your last dream. So if you think you're going to hell, you will dream of hell. If you think you'll be reincarnated, then you'll have a dream about that. I also think that once that dream ends you just fade to nothing and your "soul" is forever gone. They also theorize that the "life flashing before your eyes" thing is just your brains last-ditch effort to come up with some solution to whatever is happening based on the totality of your life experiences. Self preservation is hardwired into us, so having that last dream in an effort to shield you from the reality of death seems pretty logical to me
This video got the "belief is the key" part slightly wrong. The only mention of that in the article was when the O5 council were panicking over the discovery and one of them suggested that belief might be the key as a means to cope with it, though the rest of the article implies that it happens regardless.
There was a Doctor Who episode (season 8 episode 11) with almost exactly the same premise (the concept that dead remain conscious after dying). I want to know which inspired which, or were they actually independent? I doubt them being independent because there have been uncanny similarities between some monsters in Doctor Who and some anomalies (SCP 173 and the weeping angels, SCP 055 and The Silence, etc)
This SCP didn't scare me when i first read it because I had already came up with the idea myself before I even knew it was an SCP. Glad to know others share in my trauma now.
I like to think that the phrase "Belief is the key" actually means that simply KNOWING about 2718 isn't enough: you also have to truly BELIEVE it. Thus, if your own faith in what happens after death is absolutely unshakable, then 2718 cannot infect you.
As terrifying as this SCP is, I wonder how it was known as a cognito hazard, since if this is the true afterlife, how do they know it overrides other afterlives?
Actually, their IS an SCP universe without death, the End of Death canon, and it's not pretty. 2178 is nothing, compared to simply not being able to die. They kill a monkey, take it's brain out, blend it to a fine paste and its still active.
pretty sure pain that grows evermore for all eternity is a bit worse than anything anyone can ever suffer in the regular world, including the aforementioned brain blending
I mean, that can't prove that knowledge of this SCP is what causes this afterlife. This could just be the real afterlife. It could just be unavoidable, and the control of this information is really only effective in preventing chaos in the living world.
Scientifically, this would truly be anomalous. Everything we experience in life is processed through our senses by means of electrical impulses going to and around our brains. When we die, our brains, and therefore every bodily function that sustains life, shut off. No senses, no physical awareness as we understand it, no memories, no anything. So for this existential anomaly to be, it must somehow have the ability to lock a higher form of consciousness than just what out physical brains are capable of to our physical bodies, simply by its knoeledge; which therefore must also be stored to our higher consciousness. This SCP be its mere existence, anomalous or not, throws into question the entire nature of human existence and the human experience.
You know it's truly awful if he is willing to be 106's personal torture victim rather than die again.

Wait can you specify it clearly I can't really understand
Finally! Someone noticed! And I like your theory on this. It makes the SCP make sense without a massive rewrite.
@@ethanor the 05 they revived is not the 05 but scp 22718 to try to get them to belive in that afterlife so he can feed on there pain when they die
They never state that belief is the key, it's only a question asked by one of the O5. They were trying to convince themselves that 2718 is avoidable.
This is one of the most intriging SCPs because it's the only one (that I know of) that's a real cognitohazard. I can see people irl having depression, paranoia, etc. after learning about it.

I’ll rather just be in hell honestly
This is something you wouldn't dream about happening to your worst enemies
Apparently it does not make you think, because then you'd notice that you need to know the info to attain this afterlife, so how did the O5 counselor gain it? Clearly he did not think that would be the afterlife, or he would have taken the immortality like the other O5's

This was the first SCP story that genuinely terrified me.
@@the-weirdist lol
The first SCP story to truly terrify me was SCP 001 "When Day Breaks" But I think this is even scarier.
It is not XK end of the world scenario! When days break and O’ death will wipe out all life on Earth! It is most terrifying than when days break and O’death! Probably it is your first time seeing this scp as terrifying and probably you Are new to SCP
Meh! Terrifying for you! 096 is also terrifying! If you look at his face accidentally. There’s not escape! You will be torn apart to pieces. 106 will torturing you endlessly and break your mental health! See that’s terrifying! This scp video is not terrifying.
What about dying under tons of cake?
This is literally what happens in Return of the Living Dead (1985) .. not only are the zombies unkillable but they're in constant agonizing pain feeling themselves decay and rot forever and ever with no end to their consciousness. Great film.
There is a counter for this SCP. SCP-158 the soul extractor. It is a mechanic arm that can pull what seems to be the soul from your body if you are living. It may work on victims of SCP 2718.
Perhaps in was made specifically for this purpose, but forgotten somewhere down the line
So in another timeline rhe O5 classified death as Keter and build it to escape their fates
But they aren't living
"Victims of SCP 2718" you mean dead people?
@@TheHereticYT Yeah, dead people whose soul is stuck in their body.
I like to believe that SCP- 2718 effects doesn't limit itself to just that death, but it itself allows one to choose what happens after death and that's why it's so highly secretive.
Like O5-1 made it to make it seem like that, making you subconscious believe it, making said effect work
I personally like to think that it can make one do whatever they want after death.
It would make sense because one could use such power to gain unimaginable power and chaos havock so great that it can make even the Chaos King look like a 5 year old with TNT in a Minecraft world.

How did Roger become aware of SCP 2718 in the first place? Once you're aware of it, it changes your afterlife. That means that he would have gone to heaven or just experienced nothingness before being brought back. He didn't know about SCP 2718 before he died, so he couldn't have experienced it...?
(Unless he left out that Roger believed in some afterlife prior) I assume scp 2718 is has its properties because it is the only known afterlife available. Nothing beats concrete evidence, especially to anyone who is able to get their hands on this file. In reality prior to Roger this afterlife probably only affected non-religious people, or anyone who had no afterlife to go to. I guess.
He knew about it because he experienced it after his stroke and remembering it when revived
The video got the story wrong, it doesn't only happen if you're aware of it, the O5's just tell themselves that before amnesticizing themselves to cope with the horror

Yes, and it was said there the Entity was trying to feed on human postmortem suffering to sustain itself, which is very disgusting.... indeed. Looks like we all finally know now what the "disgusting Pestilence" is.
049 was trying to find a cure by resurrecting dead humans as new and better versions of themselves but somehow ends up with braindead zombies.
that is not stated anywhere.
My theory is that the coin he have when die is the thing that traped his soul in his body because:
1) he didn't know about 2718 in the first place
2) there is literraly no way to probe that knowing about 2718 triger it
Also at the star of the video he says there is a lot of ways of make your self inmortal, so why need to go into a poket dimension of torture
Keep in mind he could also feel his body being DIGESTED by the bugs eating his corpse
They said his body was decomposing too
As far as SCP's go this is creative but leaves a lot of questions. Like, how would they know this is what happens when you die and overrides anything else if they don't do testing? Or how about why it happened on the first place. It feels like one of those SCP's thats spooky but has less substance than it likes to present. IDK guess well have to wait and see.
Less substance because writing about all this in detail would fuck up or mand a man go mad. You would have to have multiple people right this to get more details. Tough subject
...ah god, I *JUST* got over reading this last month... probably one of the most terrifying existential horrors in the SCP multiverse.
SCP 2718: After death, thou shalt feel thy body rotting...
SCP 343: Hold my heavens!
SCP - 2718: Bone Hurty Juice
Why am I sweating
Hey, to anyone that may need to hear this:
This isn't real.
This absolutely will not happen to you ❤
thank you so much
Lol the part about believing it being what causes it is just a theory from the scp declassified reddit post about it, it doesn't actually say that in the actual scp article, yeah the 05 member says "maybe belief is the key" one time in passing, but it's never actually confirmed because they didn't do any actual testing -_- For all we know she's just telling herself that to make herself feel better, the story is intentionally really vague with this
that would be EXACTLY what the 05 would do, try to hide the truth from the population for our "protection"

There are those in real life that have seen through the jaws of Death.
Those that have been beyond the boundary, and returned.
This is not what happens.
Tbh there are more than enough other SCPs that shows the afterlife. Like a demon that doesn't lie or a chair and a desk for the devil. Or heck, an Angel that guards the entrance to heaven.
this without a doubt holds the crown for the most terrifying scp. id take stuff like when day breaks or being tortured by 106 any day over this
I think the knowing about SCP 2718 doesn't change your afterlife.

I've heard that this SCP is just some omega effect or something and it dissapears after a while and you go to the true afterlife, but you only remembered feeling the pain.

This is a chicken or egg problem. How did the o5 council guy get exposed to know it in the first place?

I have always thought that upon death we just restart immediately from birth. The exact same life on repeat forever. Its torture if you lived it wrong and paradise if you did everything right. There are no sins that can prevent you from getting into this "afterlife", so just do what makes you happy.
It makes me feel very at peace with death but also makes it more likely for me to press the reset button with a big knife.

@@JCCyCdon't we just call it religion, with hell instead of scp 2718
If Belief is the Key, then doesn't that mean 2718 isn't actually true either, since it's only belief in that outcome that causes it to happen? Really, it means all religions are right, because you create your own afterlife.
I've always thought this.
Self preservation is hardwired into us, so having that last dream in an effort to shield you from the reality of death seems pretty logical to me
Well, for this, real life, it makes sense, and considering it to the scp universe, that will go with the theory of being rebuilt atom by atom
This video got the "belief is the key" part slightly wrong. The only mention of that in the article was when the O5 council were panicking over the discovery and one of them suggested that belief might be the key as a means to cope with it, though the rest of the article implies that it happens regardless.
The law of Conservation of Energy. Y’all giving yourselves anxiety for nothing.
Honestly the thought of being eaten by insects and having your body broken down while still being completely concious is just horrifying
Nice! You are the first person I’ve come across that also actually noticed those parallels.

Thus, if your own faith in what happens after death is absolutely unshakable, then 2718 cannot infect you.

pretty sure pain that grows evermore for all eternity is a bit worse than anything anyone can ever suffer in the regular world, including the aforementioned brain blending
the brain need to stay regulated and fresh to cause pain. if the brain rots, then nerves rot. this silly even for an scp
Belief is the key
Well said
