In the Air - Part 1 | Shielding the Baltic Sea

- Advances in technology mean the time between an aerial threat appearing over the Baltic Sea and it arriving at its target has never been shorter.
In these episodes, Patrik Gardesten, Deputy Chief of the Swedish Navy, explains, “The Baltic Sea is a small sea. There's a threat here and it comes from attack aircraft, from guided missiles and other missiles. In order to meet this we need good sensors and good weapon systems.”
Angelica Persson, Business Development Analyst at Saab, fully agrees. “[Aerial threats] can reach us from very long distances and they also come at extremely high speeds - supersonic speeds - which makes them extremely difficult to take action against,” she says. “In order to manage this type of threat, for example, tactical ballistic missiles, we need to ensure that the right system has the right information at the right point in time in order to be able to operate against them in an optimised way.”
Johan Hägg, Naval Product Manager at Saab, explains Saab’s air defence solutions rely on many integrated parts to provide coverage. “We have both active sensors, radar and others, and passive sensors which can detect such threats,” he says. “We bring this together in a management system that can investigate what kind of threat it is and then we have a number of different working parts which we can choose to use. It becomes a complete function chain.”
We would like to thank the Swedish Armed Forces, the Finnish Defence Forces and the Swedish Coast Guard for footage and support. - Наука
So many beautiful, world-class, aerial shots! Loved the formation footage with the Bone and Gripen together!
The Baltic beast, Gripen 👊🏻
Im Irish living in Birmingham uk and I am happy to see that the Saab name is still strong in military aerospace
If you live in Birmingham, you should know, that in the end UK and Sweden will be a muslim countries, and no fighters will save them.
Well its refreshing to see an honest appraisal of airborne threats, and a very good example to demonstrate.
The Best off the Best 🇸🇪
Very well produced
Well you convinced me again...I want to buy one now
love the gripen 😘
I love knowledge
All well and good; but, where's the satellite image input in all this system?
why canada why you did not pick the best shame I feel this is real Gripen rocks
I think that Canada could buy about 20 f35, let the rest for Gripen and make it the backbone of the Air Force. Doing that u could let gripen for daily missions and F35 for stealth missions
@@paulomatheus_ True. F-35 can act as eyes and ears while the Gripens shoot Meteord from further back make a very deadly duo.

The defence company SAAB does not build cars and is a different company from the one that did.
@@MrCABman1972 I know...but the defence company has enough budget and liquidity to in theory start building them again?
@@colomet That makes no sense... first of they don't own the license to build SAAB cars and secondly it is like asking a paper mill to start producing bottles. They don't build civilian products they produce defence materiel.
You might as well ask BAE Systems Hägglunds to start building SAAB cars too. At least they build vehicles that run on the ground... ;)
@@MrCABman1972 SAAB is aero company not just defence, they make airplane parts for the commercial sector too if you've done your research. And further more, BAE systems is pretty much like Bofors, it's background is ONLY weaponry.
And about that paper mill to produce bottles, like ASSA ABLOY, I thought they only made locks, turned out they also made docking ports for trailers too, so cars for Saab would not be out of the blue, second of all, it's not a license they need, they just need the SAAB car division, which is a division they sold.. Since saab used to own all their divisions back in the day until it was sold to GM.
@@colometIt does not take away the fact it is not a car company or own the license to build the old SAAB car, it is a completely different company separate from the old SAAB car company. So you are better asking for Hägglunds to build cars as that is much closer to what they actually build.
And yes... I know SAAB make aircraft parts. But it does not take away the fact that it is mainly a defence operator these days.

Goodluck with the Baltic sea Jammer... 😂😂😂
Good luck with other Nordics jamming the radars with F-35 since in case you did not know Nordic airforces work together and since Norway and Denmark already have theres and Finland shall be getting theres by the end of 2030 those 100 gripens shall be escorted with over 130 F-35 that can jamm radars as they go.
your military is amazing but please fix your country and migration problem.
Sweden is finish the migration problems, it just takes time. And Sweden is still one of the absolute best countries in the entire world.
Fix your own first.

Every video I watch about gripen I see the comments section regretting about their own air forces for not buying them. So every person wants them, but not the air forces. For me SAAB market team target the wrong people to convince to buy their fighter 🥲
Buying complex military systems is as much a political as it is a military decision. Swedish government have been very inactive in trying to sell the Gripen to other countries. Allot of smaller countries probably would be better of buying Gripen than many other similar aircrafts, mostly due to the special abilities of the Gripen such as low maintenance and flight costs as well as able to operate in very austere circumstances. The Swedish government just have been very bad at marketing the Gripen to other governments.
