This song was a hit in 3 different decades by 3 different performers. Carol King wrote it for Dee Dee Sharp who turned it down. Carol then gave it to Little Eva who was her housekeeper. She took it to #1 in the early '60s. Then Grand Funk covered it in the '70s for a #1 hit. In the '80s Kylie Minogue from Australia hit #2 with it.
Little Eva did the original of this song and her version is awesome. I believe it was written by Carole King (who also recorded it). It’s a great, upbeat song. 🌺✌️
That was dope bro! Killer! By the way, Little Eva was the original. The most kickass tune they do is, "We're An American Band", but the live version! Same concert actually ... It will knock you on your butt! (but in a good way!)
Great music brings us all together, it does not matter your race or religion or lack of religion, music brings us all together.. All of life should be this simple...
This is a cover of the original recorded by "Little Eva," as an earlier post said. Please react to their song "Some Kind of Wonderful" if you can. It's pretty Funky, and has great Harmonies. Thanks
Little Eva, 1962. Good one here and I think you missed the girl near the end trying too rush the stage, go back and watch it, very funny, I think you were looking away. May I suggest that you check out one Mr. Bob Dylan if not on your own time. This man was rapping a long, long time rap was even a thought. Check out 3 from his 1964 classic LP Bringing It All Back Home in this order: "It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)" "Subterranean Home Sick Blues" and "Mr. Tambourine Man" I think that you would be pleasantly pleased and surprised. I would suggest that any young person today that digs rap too check Dylan out, this guy was the root of rap. I myself am not a fan of rap, some of it's okay but not of my time. I was born in 58 and I grew up with The Beatles, Dylan, The Rolling Stones, Floyd, Zeppelin, and all of the incredible black artists and the whole lot of music from the sixties and seventies, you know, when there was true talent and artist's, unlike today. In 2008 Dylan was awarded The Pulitzer Prize for his " Profound impact on popular music and American culture, marked by his lyrical compositions of extraordinary power" These aren't my words but those of The Pulitzer committee. In 2011 President Obama awarded him The Presidential Medal Of Freedom and placed it around Dylan's neck and was absolutely thrilled too meet Dylan. In 2016 Dylan finally accepted The Nobel Prize after turning it down many times in the past. He was also named America's poet Laureate of the 20th century. His list of awards is vast, you name it, he probably has it. Check this man out. 🎄✌️☮️💕
Great cover by Grand Funk Railroad! Song originally written by Gerry Goffin and Legendary Carole King. Hit no. 1 in 1962 by Little Eva, and again hit no. 1 in 1974 by Grand Funk Railroad (My personal favorite version), Mark Farner, lead singer and guitarist for Grand Funk Railroad was a great lead man, a lot of charisma and soul. Thank you for the critique on this song, very good critique. 👍
This one worked better than I'm Your Captain live. I'm your Captain was a haunting beautiful studio recording. A favorite for sure. This was a cool cover.
Another banger by GFR I recommend is “We’re An American Band.” I’m really enjoying you enjoying this music, Van. Johnny and Edgar Winter “Tobacco Road “ my friend.
Mark Farner and co.....Wet Willy behind them backing them up...those 2 ladies (Donna Hall Foster and Ella Brown Avery) were no slouches either. Respect to Little Eva and Carole King who penned this classic.
Van, do some original vs remake videos. Play both and react; it would be fun! Some suggestions: Turn the Page-Seger/Metallica, Higher Ground-Stevie Wonder/Chili Peppers, Rusty Cage-Soundgarden/Johnny Cash. That would be fun to react to the differences.
We came out about the same time. 1974... I grew up on beat box and battle raps between L.L. and Kool Moe Dee... I remember hip hop for everything its ever been... I seen it change the exact same way rock n roll became Heavy Metal. It went from being Yo MTV Raps to gangsters poppin Caps... The 80's and 90's were some wild times... The Rap Culture died and music gave birth to the Hip Hop Culture we know today. I don't know who changed it more... Tupac, N.W.A. or Master P. ... Maybe it was all three for real... I mean, first NWA taught us to REJECT AUTHORITY... Tupac gave us a GOTTA GET MINES mentality, then Master P came and taught us all how to cook up dope. Then the world went crazy.
A little bit o' MOTOWN soul from Little Eva, Mr. Van! And check out my Wet Willie helping out! You're right - this is a party song. My friends & I made up our own "Loco-Motion" dance, & we'd bust a move any time we heard it. Thanks for the nostalgia, sir!
Check out wet Willie keep on smiling. Also one of the girls singing back was from Wet Willie and she was dating the lead singer of Grand Funk. She is also the sister of the lead singer of Wet Willie. She is Donna Hall and the lead singer of Wet Willie is Jimmy Hall.Check out Wet Willie.
Think about it...back then they didn't have the huge fans and providing air conditioning for a large crowd was next to impossible. Not to mention...shirts off, oh yeah!
If you were born in 78 that's why I dig Yo Thang. I listen to everything from jodeci too Alice n chains, from pearl jam too OUTKAST. Would love some reaction to OUTKAST!!!! CONTINUE doing that THANG!!!!78,78, anyone Born in 78'. That kind of sounds weird I don't dig your Thang That was a play on HIT that THANG
Yes, Wet Willy. i actually saw them twice. They opened for Humble Pie one time and Frank Zappa another. Whoever decided they should open for Zappa did them a serious disservice.
@@davebeach2343 Frank knew if you put Grand Funk Railroad in one of your shows you are going to have a good show. But you had to be ready because they could take over the crowd and the show.

Wow,I did not know that!
As a curiosity - it was also #1 in old Yugoslavia, covered by Elektricni Oragazam (1983) and it rocks.
Carol King only paid little Eva $50 to record it Little Eva was her maid
Those two syncopated drum kits are what makes this song ROCK!
Little Eva did the original, I believe. When Mark Farner swings those hips…OH MY GOODNESS!
Little Eva did the original of this song and her version is awesome. I believe it was written by Carole King (who also recorded it). It’s a great, upbeat song. 🌺✌️
Grand Funk knows a great song when they hear it !!!!!
That was dope bro! Killer! By the way, Little Eva was the original. The most kickass tune they do is, "We're An American Band", but the live version! Same concert actually ... It will knock you on your butt! (but in a good way!)
1974 was a great year. Grand funk was an amazing band and I got out of high school. Such a great time for rock music.
Great music brings us all together, it does not matter your race or religion or lack of religion, music brings us all together.. All of life should be this simple...

Yep they covered Little Eva, and rocked it out!
Van is rockin this am. Great choices! I was 11 in 74 but listened to Grand Funk and still love them in my advanced age.
this was my first concert, 1974, 14 yrs old. Great memories. Great concert. They were soooo good live.
I haven’t heard this in years! Loved it when I was a kid! ♥️
♥ Gerry Goffin and Carole King songwriters. ♥
Carol King is probably the greatest hit writer of all time . Many artists owe their careers to her genius .
My home boys!!!! I was 14 yrs old....... 1974!! Wow!!
They play any song they can apply their magic style to. Most songs are their creations.
I read from an interview, that they needed another song and the producer heard the singer singing this in the hallway and convinced them to record it.
Wet Willie actually sings one of my favorite songs called Keep On Smilin'..would love for you to check it out :) Keep On Rockin'
Had to Google to make sure but Little Eva did the original version.
Top Skate song in the 70's ......All Skate :)
Epic version. The ladies at backing vocals are great...
Wet Willy- Keep on Smilin'.
They played this song at the skating rink as a child skated to it often
Original recording 1962
By little Eva. Then 1974 Grand Funk Railroad. And 1988 Kylie Minoque.
And Debbie Gibson also had a hit with it in the late 80s
Yes, Little EVA did it first in 1962...was written by Carol King and Gerry Goffin.
Thank you - and the best Loco-motion is from Little Eve (1962)
The song is an olde but goodie and should be played at every party🎉😅😂

Should do a series on "dancing in the street". Lots of great covers. The mick jagger/David bowie video is a lot of fun
The lead singer Mark is now 75 76ers old
That’s some roller skatin music right there!
As you said, the studio versions are worth a listen.
Absolutely love this cover. Little Eva should be proud. ❤️❤️

That is a disco group most rock and roll fans didn't care for it.
They are the original singers for this song.
Mark Farner and co.....Wet Willy behind them backing them up...those 2 ladies (Donna Hall Foster and Ella Brown Avery) were no slouches either. Respect to Little Eva and Carole King who penned this classic.
Rocking that bass line

An artist known as Little Eva is the originator.
"The Loco-Motion" was originally written for Dee Dee Sharp

Saw them in philly on this tour. My first concert. They tore the roof off
If it was at The Spectum I bet the maintenance people went up to check the roof after the concert!
Little Eva sang it first this is a cover by GFR
One of only nine songs to reach number 1 by two different groups. It almost made it a third time when Kylie Minogue's version made it to number 3.
Actually Carole King did the original one she wrote and composed the song and you can probably find a recording of her singing it
Check out American Woman by grand funk railroad
"They sing this!?" 😅 EVERYBODY has recorded this song!
Think about it...back then they didn't have the huge fans and providing air conditioning for a large crowd was next to impossible. Not to mention...shirts off, oh yeah!

They originally sung this song I had it on the 45 record when I was a little girl and they listen to it all the time and do the bump the dance that is
Love this song
Obviously you must check on Little Eva with good audio next.
Yes, Wet Willy. i actually saw them twice. They opened for Humble Pie one time and Frank Zappa another. Whoever decided they should open for Zappa did them a serious disservice.
It's hard to think of a good band to open for Frank Zappa.
@@davebeach2343 Frank knew if you put Grand Funk Railroad in one of your shows you are going to have a good show. But you had to be ready because they could take over the crowd and the show.
Carol King actually wrote this song
GFR "I can feel him in the morning"
Hoping for someone to react to this song by them. ❤✌🎵
