My 3 year old grandson fixed a skipping Audio Technica record player by adding 2.3 grams to it.

- Audio Technica AT LP60 record player tracks at about 3.7 grams and less than that it’ll skip. The counterweight is not user adjustable. You can however add enough weight to it to make it work. If you have a scale, you can weigh the tone arm to see if the added weight is too much above the norm. Just because you use a coin to increase the tracking pressure doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll damage the record (coin is placed on top of cartridge with 2 sided tape). It’s not an elegant solution but it can certainly work and more importantly won’t damage your records.
Or you can take apart the spring mechanism in the back to make the adjustment. Good luck with that.
Genius!! You guys are awesome!! It worked for me😁
Maybe the pivot point has dirt needs a cleaning and maybe a thin lube, could even been a worn pivot if its plastic..the weight still helps in situation also
I have an Aiwa which is the same as this Audio Technica, when it acts up I will take it apart and see if the pivot point has dirt as you suggested. Thanks for your input.
Thats super interesting
3.7 g should be more than enough for that tho, odd
You’re right but this is still a cheap turntable and I don’t really have a stylus scale although the scale in the video is close enough. The toy record players you see for under a hundred dollars track at 10 grams. Hey it is working and the sound is ok.
Is this for real?... The pressing is not deep enough for the bass freq, so it is throwing out the needle from the groove... increase the downforce and guess what?.. the needle stays in the groove and tracks.. Not rocket science huh?.. Needs to be played on a decent record player instead or the record will be slowly damaged everytime you play it with the weight on..
It’s for real. It’s a cheap record player so tracking force is naturally higher. Some are over 5 grams. It played well enough when record player was new. Now the tracking is too light and so won’t play properly. As long as the weight you add is not more than the weight you had before, it won’t do more damage. With this player, you have to take apart the tone arm and adjust the spring, to the proper force, which is about 4 grams. Good luck with taking it apart.
A more expensive player has an adjustable counterweight in the back but this doesn’t mean you can adjust the tracking force to one gram and expect it to play well. You can say it’s not an elegant way to fix it but I do believe it works. That’s why I showed the scale to weigh the tone arm.
