I just turned 24. My Mexican dad has never told me he loves me. But I’ve seen him struggle and huddle for the roof over my head. His actions speak to me. This video brought me to tears. I love my pops.

jackie2011jr agreed, everything just seems more powerful in Spanish to me. Maybe it's just because it's the first language I learned, the language I've grown up around, the language my name is called in, and the language people tell me they love me in but I just know it's a language with a big emphasis on emotion.

Second, your story is so touching because grandpa was the same. Once he got older I think I heard him tell me 5 times he loved me. Doing something with your kids is better than nothing. My fondest memories with my dad were just going to the park, hun teaching me to ride my bike, playing soccer in the backyard. My dad didn't call me by my first name until I was 16. He always just called me "Boy" as in "Get up Boy, we're mowing the lawn" or "Come on Boy, we're checking the oil in your mom's car" I am the oldest and I never knew why he treated me different than my brother and sister. When I was 16, I woke up to use the restroom and realized that that it had froze the night before. I woke up early the next day to scrape off the ice from everyone's car so we could go to work/school. I was eating breakfast when my dad went out with the scraper.....he came back in, put the scraper by the door, and said "Good work Jack." Still one of my favorite dad/son moments. Many mexican fathers had a hard life and grew up dirt poor. Their parents never told them that they loved them. A lot of fathers don’t say this because they never knew what that felt like. It’s important you become aware of it though and tell your loved ones these words to let them know because you may never get another chance to do it. Like many things, death is unpredictable so it’s best to do it while we’re still alive and breathing.

Antonio be Thankful He did tell You He loved You ok . I didn’t know My Mother She died when I was 2and 1/2 years old of Cancer and My Dad just put in foster homes all My Life. So Love Frm a Mother never and My Dad hardly saw Him only when I would be transferred to a foster home. I never heard that Man say I Love or Carino. I always made it a point to tell My children I Love You and lots of Carino. So I know the feeling But took many years to Forgive Him . 🇺🇸🇲🇽✝️🙏🏽 Amen

The struggle is that Latino dads aren't raised to express their feelings. This was the whole point. My father was raised this way and then he raised us the same just maybe a little more gentle with the cinto. Always working from sunrise to sundown to provide everything for us and that's how we knew he loved us.

I grew up without my dad and only my mom to guide me. I didn’t know most of the things that fathers are supposed to teach their kids.
Today, I have a little 7 year old son and a 10 month old baby girl with another in the belly. I constantly struggle asking myself, “am I doing this right or enough?” I let my kids know I love them everyday so they grow up to be better than me and not make the same mistakes I had done.
I’m sitting in my car outside my home before I go in to wipe my tears and put on a smile cause I want my kids to know that I’ll always love them for the rest my of my life. I go back to this video every now and then to remind myself not to be emotionless and to love forever.

When I went into highschool I asked him for a new pair of jeans and he said ok. Next day he told me to go with him, I thought he was taking me to the mall but no, he took me to work with him (he is a handyman). He took me for a week and then he paid me, he said "Toma, te has ganado tu dinero para los jeans". Best life lesson I had. Love him to death for showing me how to work. He has never personally told me but my family says that he tells them I'm still his little girl, I'm 38 now.

Damn, this got me good. My dad was raised in LA and never was close with my Grandpa. He went into the Marines at 17 and I wonder a lot if that's why he's always been the Unemotional type or because my Grandpa was too hard on him?
But probably both. Thankfully, I grew up close to both of them.
My Grandpa died almost 4 years ago and I think it's softened him up significantly ❤️.
The last time I recall my Pa saying he's Proud of me was almost 2 years ago when I got my Barber's license.
It was over the phone as I'm near Sacramento.
I was surprised but I think what's important here is as sons (or daughters) we Know that they Love us even though they don't express it verbally. Or not often enough.
But just hearing those words, I Love You can save Years of Hurt, Self-Doubt, Anger etc.
This is a very much a Cultural issue, but Everyone needs to know that they are loved by their parents.
    Especially our Fathers.
I think that all of the Padres did an Excellent job raising their sons, they all have a lot of Character and Personal Strength, Dignity too.
    I'm happy I came across this 🥲

My dad didn’t have much of a childhood. He quit school in the 7th grade to work the fields. He had to raise his 6 brothers and sisters at 19. His mom died and his dad left the family. My dad died 5 years ago. He showed us love by feeding us and taking us on vacations. There were over 300 people at his funeral. He was a great man not only to his family but to everyone he could help.

my grandfather went to jail when my dad was 17. he was super abusive and was a drunk so my dad lived a hard life even in childhood. because of this, my dad didnt have anyone to teach him how to become an adult. he became involved with gangs, drugs (no hard drugs just the simple stuff), alcohol. it was hard but when he had my sister at 18, decided he needed to change. he didnt really get to it but then he had me 2 years later. then he realized he needed to change for both of us so that we could be safe. he is now getting his bachelors degree in business, about to buy his first house, and is pretty happy. he doesn´t tell me i love you often, but he does tell me and show me enough for me to know how much he really does love me

If you try really hard to forgive it will help you in life to overcome those memories, thats the cycle to break. Your parents had it rough and they didn't forgive their parents and understand that they were taught or exposed to traumatic things that was difficult for them and wasn't strong enough to overcome it and resorted to what they know, alcohol, yelling and physical abuse etc.. doesn't make it right for them but to judge and hate doesn't help you. If you reflect on yourself you will see some traits of them or your emotionally driven(angry fast, etc) try to overcome through forgiveness and if you can take it a step up and apologize for hating them for how they treated you. Give it a shot while they are still alive. God Bless

My dad really didn't have a childhood. He worked from the age of 6 to help support his family. He still does to this day at 70. He will take the food off his table to give it to someone in need. He is the strongest and most loving man that I know. I have been blessed in having him as my dad. He tells my kids and me that he loves us every chance he gets. So people tell your friends and family how you feel. We might not get the chance later because tomorrow isn't guaranteed.

I’m about to watch the video but can definitely say, that as a Hispanic young woman, I wish my mom would be more encouraging, supportive, and actively listen to me when I speak. We get into so many arguments over her poor listening/communication skills, and we hardly say “I love you” to each other.

The ones that dont say it are the ones that love you the most. Sometimes we forget to say it because we like to think our actions speak louder than words. Sometimes people have lied to us and used up words to the point where we think they are meaningless and rather show than say. But we forget how words still mean something to others.
