I here you, I have the 44mm in all blue with blue rubber. I have 10 watches from all brands and this one has grown on me the most. Just fun solid watch. Love it and for price point say no more But will never be selling mine
Always thought breitlings were big and gaudy until my friend let me try on his used superocean steelfish he was tryna flip. Fell in love instantly and I bought it off him at the time for $1k (was a super steal in hindsight lol) since he wanted a quick sale and it's been a staple in my collection going on 6 years now, still keeps great time tbh. They're very well built pieces imo
Breitling is probably my favourite brand. Always has been they are just cool, reliable and the quality is just as good as any other big heavy hitter brand.
Its a funny thing isn't it? As a package its pure subtle class for a Diver. The right proportion of Utility and Style. There is something about the simple down that was just right, because if you explained it to me before you did it, I wouldn't approve it. :)
I had own the SMP300, Sub no date, Breitling Superocean Heritage and the Superocean 44. After using a while, the Superocean catch me mostly. But I change it in a 42mm version and to it there is the Avenger 43 gmt white dail and the Tudor BB 58 navy blue. All other I sold and be happy with it. Interesting video from you.
So I bought a superocean 42 on the rubber strap back in February. I recently sold it, like two weeks ago, to purchase the blue dial Pelagos. Even though I love my pelagos and I consider it a much better watch…… I really, really, REALLY miss my superocean. There is just something about that watch that was just so appealing. The lume is amazing, the dial is depth it’s fantastic, and it was polished in just the right places…. The bezel was a little ratchety and mechanical but that’s fine… but the DLC coating w the polished reliefs on the bezel looked amazing…. I might have to buy it again someday.
I've just sold my white dial Superocean 42 on rubber after a year of ownership. I was looking at getting a Seamaster 300m (which I have owned before), but decided to get the black dial Superocean 42 on bracelet, I just love this watch!
I have the previous model Superocean II 44mm with the bracelet and a blue rubber dive strap. It's my second favourite watch after my Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600m 43.5mm. Also the Breitling Calibre 17 movement can either be an ETA 2824 or a Sellita, Breitling used both as the base for the Calibre 17 you could have either in your Superocean, the only way to tell is to open it and count the jewels, the ETA has 25 jewels while the Sellita has 26 jewels.
I absolutely love Breitling. I don't own any... yet. But they are doing amazing stuff lately. Being a woman, I love that 36mm baby blue. I hate the helium "crown" on the Seamaster. It looks stupid. I'm not a fan of the BB58. I find it boring. I've got an Aquis Clean Ocean, but I'm selling it. I've moved away from dive watches. But those Breitlings are cool.
Again, a great review with beautiful narration and imagery, Evan! I really enjoy the unique Breitling design as well. It's nothing special at first glance but the details matters. And the light play that comes with a tooly watch like this thanks to the AR coating on the crystal and the subtle polished parts is just beautiful! I owned an Avenger II GMT several years ago. I bought it under 3k as well and sold it due to its 43mm size and my small 6-6.5 inch wrists. But I'm really missing a winged B in my collection... never thought about the black 42 Superocean! But I think that could really be my replacement for the gone Avenger! Especially love the black bezel. That looks just cool!
I’m headed to an AD today to pick up a BB58 bracelet. I’ll check out the 42 SO while I’m there. I think it looks great. I’m a Lume junky who loves value so this could work. Love your reviews and your humor! Thanks.
This is truly the best watch content on RUclips. Never gets boring! My pick would be either a Doxa Sub 300T or Sub 300 . They range from 1895€ - 2490€ new. I understand some people don't like 'em. They are big, (can be) colorful and different. But I love everything about them. The heritage is there and the designs are something else. I would go Doxa over a Submariner or Seamaster. But I'm a weirdo aswell
This is a good looking piece. I think the slash-cut bracelet is really pleasing and the unique 'Breitling aesthetics' of the dial, textures, materials and colours make it the choice for me over watches of a similar price and maybe even beyond. At the price and given that Breitling adapt and finish their adopted movements with great care, it's a fine purchase.
I love mine and I also have an abyss. And, a 20 year old Chronomat. Breitling makes a great watch. They are virtually indestructible. Breitling is probably one of the best brands at any price.
The 42mm checks a lot of boxes for me. There’s only a couple things I don’t like. 1) Not a fan of the angled links, probably just wear it with the rubber strap. 2) The crown is a little too long, 1 to 1.5mm shorter would be perfect.
I encourage you to try out the watch on the bracelet. It really is an exceptionaly designed and engineered bracelet. Super comfortable, every link articulates like butter, and it’s different than the usual oyster style. Try it in person you may be pleasantly surprised.
Crazy how small that SO in 42 looks and and feels. I had to ask the AD two times if this is the right one. I had to go for the 44. Got 17.5cm wrist flat shape.
@@YoureTerrific So I just called the Breitling Beverly Hill boutique... Apparently they don't make an XL yellow strap (I have a 8.25" wrist). I'm now very sad!
@@brownmcpherson5724 I’m sure you could pick up an aftermarket strap on Etsy / watchgecko/ strap code etc. I agree the yellow colourway would be awesome. 😎 just picked up a white dial Avenger GMT and was sorely tempted by the yellow SO in the store 💛💛
I bought the 42mm blue. And I absolutely love it. Got a decent discount as well. I liked the Tudor blackbay 58 too but was not ready to wait endlessly to get the delivery
I got blue 44 for just under $2k three years ago. I had an issue with the size at firstbut swapped the metal bracelet with a nato. Not only did it make the watch wear smaller but it complimented the blue dial. It's been a daily ever since
I’m still not convinced that in-house is ‘better’… I mean, I know there’s more cache for the watch nerd, but if I’m spending that much I want to service it (and know my kids can service it when I pass it on) without it having to be difficult or expensive. For me a top grade 2824 is ‘better’ than an in-house. Great content btw, thank you 👍
Nice review, Mate! Was suppose to get a black bay - since that’s all the rave, but when I dug deeper with the superocean - then it’ll just call you and call you till you can’t sleep. So I got the 42 black on rubber and I would have to say it’s a proper tool watch. Legibility, accuracy and LUME! Super underrated for the buck. So pull the trigger already so it can stop calling you as well!
I’m so drawn to these, and as someone who has owned watches/divers from Rolex, omega & Tudor to seiko and other mid rangers, I think this is the best bang for buck and punches way above. I find the best comparison is with the Pelagos (specs and price) which I loved owning but don’t love titanium watches. I love the Arabic numerals on the superocean, my only concern was 2 of the 3 examples at my AD (unfortunately the one that I wanted to purchase) had blemishes on the bezel insert. After which I had read that it was vulcanized river and this is common? Hopefully they’ve changed this or are planning on it, because I hate to see a tank of a watch with such a weak point.
Your comment about someone who buys a super car is a bit ridiculous. 1. People who buy supercars often do it because they love the looks, the sound, the handling etc, not just to look cool 2. With that mindset, buying any expensive watch is just as ridiculous as you could be accused of doing it just to “look cool”
Absolutely love this watch! Breitling really nailed it with this! Just watched a couple of your reviews and love your style 😂 you have earned a follow!
Completely agree that Breitling has made a huge turn around the past couple of years. They were always the brand I shook my head at as too expensive and too much bling. But lately, they are nailing some very good designs!
Two years later and here I'm, coming to yell in the comment section..... The watch that you "forgot" to mention is the 44mm Longines Hydroconquest with the metal bezel. Half the price with movement that has a double the power reserve, and similar, awesome looking dial with 6,9,12 oversized Arabic numerals. With all that being said, Thanks for your videos, I enjoy watching them ! ..... at the moment I'm after exactly the same model, size and color Breitling Superocean.
I tried this on in 2020 while i was studying in university and i absolutly fell in love with this one, and now when im in a finacial position to buy it i can't but it anymore... not a fan of the latest one..
I tried the 42 in blue. Its Gorgeous, wears like a 40'. And its unbeatable at 2500 euros New. We Have similar tastes in Watches. I Love almost all of the Watches You like
I’ve owned the 42mm for a year now and have no complaints whatsoever. The things built like a tank. I’m still baffled why these haven’t gotten more recognition
Because watch enthusiasts exist in a vacuum and rarely venture outside the influence of their RUclips reviewers. You need to worship at the alter of Rolex/Tudor/Omega to play with the cool kids. Perfect for me as it allows me to get great pieces from brands like Breitling at a discount.
You mentioned movement & finish, and aesthetics as the only factors when comparing the Breitling against the Omega and Tudor…. But what about design and actual function? Captive bezel? Best ATM? Brightest lume? Most affordable maintenance long term? Best AR coating? These are undeniable factors that seem to be conveniently ignored if they don’t fit the narrative.
You have hit all the nails on the head with this quick overview. I own the 44mm SuperOcean in the Australian edition. This has the green bezel with rose indicators. I haven’t taken it off for 2 months now as it is perfect for everyday wear. The thing I dislike the most about it is the bracelet. It’s a shame they do not taper the lugs on this particular bracelet as I feel it would add so much more to the aesthetic of the watch. The standard bracelet looks cheap. I switched it out to the rose Chronomat rubber strap which suits it brilliantly. I also found it funny how you compared it to the BB58. I am seriously considering offloading my BB58 as I feel I have no use for it now I have this Breitling, which most people, I assume, would think is mental. Anyways, good stuff, keep up the good work.
which one for a first watch then ? I am between this one, omega 300 and the Tudor BB58. From all of then the one that wears on my wrist the best is the Breitling.
So I tried this very watch on the other day....and I can see why you were smitten by it! Just so happens I have the same size wrist as you and yes, your'e right it does fit amazingly well. I also tried on an Omega seamaster Pro and the Oris Aquis 43 Caliber 400 that day and out of the three, this one felt and looked the best IMO. I tried the 42mm on also and unlike you, I have to say I preffered the 44mm. It's a great watch.
Wow didn’t know how much lime those things have. I like how Brietling uses AR coating. I love it on my Seamaster. “Basically a dress watch” hahahaha. That super ocean is a great watch.
@@YoureTerrific Titanium is special, like it or not. The tool watch side, the design, the movement, the history. Everything fits on this watch. I just convinced myself to buy it actually.
This is a great watch, yes it’s heavy but well balanced, the sweeping second hand is poetry in motion, I chose this watch over the new 2022 model, basically they where chalk and cheese alongside each other, this has charisma and is quiet subtle, the new Superocean looks like a dress watch, very bright and blingy, and no date anymore, strange move Breitling.
I have a 6.5” wrist and my large Breitling watches fit great because the lugs curve down nicely. I like my Rolexes too, but admittedly the lugs are very straight and feel and look much ‘bigger.’ I’m surprised to hear you knock the helium escape valves and super-cars. You miss the point.
2 years ago I obsessed about which to buy between the 44 Superocean and Seamaster. I had already owned the new Aquaracer that resembled the Seamaster (looked awesome on NATO plus only paid $1400 new). I ended up selling it to fund another. Anyway.. After obsessing over the decision like my life was on line line, and technically I was facing death, with the possibility of my gf finding out. I did choose the Superocean over the Seamaster. And although I pretty much wished I bought the Seamaster a month later, I still love the Superocean, and don't see myself selling it. I should note that if I would've bought the Seamaster, then pretty likely I would've thought "damn I wish I would've bought the Superocean". Fun times goin on in my head. I did end up buying the Seamaster recently. It fits absolutely perfect and is close to flawless. BTW inflation has drove the price to $5400. I had a hard time negotiating a good deal with my AD, but in the end they were in understanding I was in fact risking my life with my purchase, and weworked out a pretty good deal 👍. The Seamaster IMO has an art value that no other timepiece has, if ever you guys are on the fence, just pull the trigger, and be careful not to receive death 💀
Iv had the superocean 42 since Jan 2019 and i must say the build quality is fantastic for the price of the watch. Iv banged it a good few times on brick walls, desks, door handles etc as its my daily beater and the watch has always come out on top! The chronometer is true to its word as mine gains 1 second per day! The only draw back for me is the 38h power reserve but i suppose i cant really complain as it cost me £2200 new from goldsmiths.
Wow, great video. How is it you come out with a video of a watch that i am currently thinking about? First was the IWC xviii, now this. Our wrists are exactly the same size, my wrist is just a hair over 7, between 7 and 7.25. I think these wear very small, am i right? I tried on the 42 but it felt like a 40? Or am i imagining this. Is the 44 too big?
I had the 44 in black too, I still miss it to this day (well, a friend is happy with it now, sigh). I may get it again though, before these aren't available anymore with the new ones just launched (tiny hands imho, but I need to check them in person though). There's something about this watch that just draws me to it. Nothing really special about it, but it's an awesome watch to wear. Maybe I'm broken too :)
The angled center links are disturbing, I am curious as to any reason to do that. other than that cool watch and you cant go wrong with an eta 2824-2, as long as you've got other watches with eye candy on the back
The Breitling professional 2 bracelet is fantastic. Super comfortable, and very well machined. The off center links are pretty cool and different from the usual oyster style.
Great review, You're Terrific, thank you. Retail price is going to make people shy away from it. I like the bezel insert isn't rubber. I like the dial. Guess I like the whole watch. I have 2003 SO and yes the exterior AR coating does scratch, but I can only see it under certain light, and with my old man glasses on, so no big deal.
Maybe have a look at the new Longines Hydroconquest or the older one (both are available in stores). Great watches, based on a "higher level" movement (eta2892), although not cosc certified and with definetely weaker lume, but they cost less.
The Superocean 44 is an outstanding diving watch. I recently purchased it. It is gorgeous and built like an absolute tank. The 44 adds a nice amount of heft--not too much though. Fits well under a suit jacket as well.
I just bought a blue Super Ocean 44 in Aruba for 15% under retail at 3600 - probably could have found it a little cheaper in the US but I got a free Breitling hat with it and I know it's from an AD. I was looking at the Omega Planet ocean but for 6600 I couldn't pull the trigger on it and frankly the Breitling looks and feels better.
What a great video. You took a watch I would utterly dismiss and made me actually want one, and with a bit of humour too. Take my sub you magnificent bastard.
Please share with us where you can get that watch for 30% off list with full warranty like you mentioned (brand new). I just purchased a brand new avenger from an out of state AD. I looked high and low for the best deal with a full warranty. Best I could get was 18% off...
What a great review. I can't wait to see you do a SMP 300, unless you already have. That happens to me often, the creator is upset I haven't watched all 1600 of their videos and remembered them all and I'm like, who are you again? But I'd remember if you did it. Probably. Very fair comment. One other small complaint I have is the lack of colour matching with the date wheel (not an issue with the white dial version).
38 hours on the B17 (2824-2). I bounce back and forth on whether the date window should be framed or not.
I here you, I have the 44mm in all blue with blue rubber. I have 10 watches from all brands and this one has grown on me the most. Just fun solid watch. Love it and for price point say no more
But will never be selling mine
Does the 44 wear big? My other watches are 43mm and I’m not sure if 42 or 44 would be best for me
Always thought breitlings were big and gaudy until my friend let me try on his used superocean steelfish he was tryna flip.
I felt the same way about the subtle charm that the SuperOcean has when compared to other luxury divers. Great video!
Thanks for watching!
Enjoyed the review of your white dial Superocean.
Its a funny thing isn't it? As a package its pure subtle class for a Diver. The right proportion of Utility and Style. There is something about the simple down that was just right, because if you explained it to me before you did it, I wouldn't approve it. :)
I have the 44, sits lovely on the wrist with the wider lugs, beautiful watch to own and enjoy
I love the white dial with blue accents in 42mm 😌
I could listen to you talking for hours. Creepy I know. It helps that your script is informative and humorous. Keep it up.
The dry humour in this is fantastic. Well done!
Thanks
Agree, yeah subtle details you don't see at first put this brand into a high category of fine watches, imho.
Weirdos make the world go 'round.
I have the yellow one in 44 and I'm loving it. I changed the metal bracelet to a black rubber strap and its perfect for summer fun in the beach ;-)
So good!
Good looking watch. I've been thinking of the 44mm yellow with a yellow rubber strap. Summer fun!
That would look so good!
@@YoureTerrific So I just called the Breitling Beverly Hill boutique... Apparently they don't make an XL yellow strap (I have a 8.25" wrist).
I'm now very sad!
My condolences, big fella.
I have the yellow 44 with rubber strap deployment clasp. Absolutely love it, hardly take it off. many comments.
Out of the competitors you showed, the tudor is the one id choose over the 42mm breitling. I love my breitling chrono. Though.
I bought the 42mm blue. And I absolutely love it. Got a decent discount as well. I liked the Tudor blackbay 58 too but was not ready to wait endlessly to get the delivery
Great choice
I got blue 44 for just under $2k three years ago. I had an issue with the size at firstbut swapped the metal bracelet with a nato. Not only did it make the watch wear smaller but it complimented the blue dial. It's been a daily ever since
new or used? that is a steal either way
@@panamericaco used
Love the video. The 44 size and the whole design makes this watch to a good alternativ to a Rolex Deepsea Sea Dweller…
I have the older 42 Abyss and I like it more than my Submariner, it has character in every detail. And it’s just as accurate.
Great content btw, thank you 👍
Great points. The only thing lacking is the power reserve. Other than that COSC ETAs are better in many cases.
Absolutely agree.
So well written and filmed, fantastic work
Nice review, Mate!
I just bought the 42 blue! Video in the works.
The Breitling is a beautiful watch. I like it much better than the others you mentioned. Nothing wrong, best taste.
Best review on this watch currently on the internet! I agree, in person it wears smaller for sure.
Best bang for the buck!?!? $4k for an ETA2824-2 movement you can get plenty of high quality in house movement watches at that price range…
Thanks for reviewing this, love the 1000m of water resistance because why not?
I love this watch, it just makes me happy, especially in the yellow.
I bought this exact watch. I totally love it. I get compliments on it every time I wear it.
The presentation is awesome as it shows a real watch look. Really a model for others to follow
I Love almost all of the Watches You like
42 blue is really good.
Underrated comment
This watch is in a class of its own when you consider it’s price and brand recognition.
Wow didn’t know how much lime those things have. I like how Brietling uses AR coating. I love it on my Seamaster. “Basically a dress watch” hahahaha. That super ocean is a great watch.
The dial is beautiful and the big numbers on the dial makes it look small but still looks a great watch. The blue dial is stunning 👌👏
300m - basically a dress watch. LOL!
💧
"...Am I right?" Ha ha ha that one made me laugh, too. 😁
The Tudor Pelagos in blue ! Best bargain on the market.
Yeah. I just don’t care for the titanium on that watch.
@@YoureTerrific Titanium is special, like it or not. The tool watch side, the design, the movement, the history. Everything fits on this watch. I just convinced myself to buy it actually.
@@guillaumerohmer Ha, outstanding.
“Like to clean the crystal on your jeans” 😂😂
“You monster”
The bezel colour is dlc ?
@@jovnard1040 Yes, i believe so
if a power reserve lasts 24 hours plus an overnight, that's all I'll ever need.
The 42 does wear like a 40. I agree. And I love it.
@@YoureTerrific. So would you say the 44 wears like a 42?
@@chelious1973 Yes
@@johnfeet5476. Got the 42. Wears like a 40, looks better on my wrist than the 44, lighter to boot. Running +1 seconds a day.
Dear YoureTerrific
MM300 Lume VS Breitling Superocean 44 Lume, Whos lume longer and brighter ?
Thank you so much🙂
Thanks for the review, the 42 inch is my grail
The helium escape valve is there for the people who actually work with their watches. For the rest of us, it's just pretty neat.
Loved the review! I agree the superocean line looks really nice! You should make a review on that new Tag Heuer Aquaracer soon!
Would love to, just need to borrow one.
Longines hydroconquest?
Good one! Thanks.
Well done!
My brother has the same model and color. Clean simple watch
Bro I own the yellow and let me tell you this iteration of the Superocean 2 holds the kind of wrist presence Tudors would love to have !
I have the 42mm version and trust me when I say, you want this watch.
I do indeed
Beautiful piece. I'm concerned if it fits with 6" wrist
What a great video. You took a watch I would utterly dismiss and made me actually want one, and with a bit of humour too. Take my sub you magnificent bastard.
One competitor for this watch you forgot to mention, and that is 'Squale' they make the best dive watches in my opinion.
Those seem great.
Please share with us where you can get that watch for 30% off list with full warranty like you mentioned (brand new). I just purchased a brand new avenger from an out of state AD. I looked high and low for the best deal with a full warranty. Best I could get was 18% off...
Do you know the steel bracelet code for this 44mm superocean 2? Is is the 162A professional 3?
What a great review. I can't wait to see you do a SMP 300, unless you already have. That happens to me often, the creator is upset I haven't watched all 1600 of their videos and remembered them all and I'm like, who are you again? But I'd remember if you did it. Probably. Oh am I supposed to be YELLING!?!?! WHY AM I YELLING, YOU'RE THE EXPERT!
I haven’t reviewed one because it seems like everyone else already has. But if someone offers to loan me one, I probably will.
This video made me google "Breitling Superocean 36mm". I didn't know Breitling even knew sub 40mm watches still exist. Thanks.
They look great too.
