I have the X9s and love them, butbthey not newrly as universal as i would like them to be. Q9 seems like a nice option, but there is also X9 WB. I also really like the Servotec springiness, so i guess X9 WB would be better? What are some skiis from other brands to cinsider? I was a bit disappointed in X9s as they are really easy to scratch from the top. Are the Q the same?
I can't tell if the Q is any better or worse when it comes to scratching. In the 75 mm width, I really like the Nordica Spitfire 74 or the Rossignol Hero MT.
The Q9 is the narrowest and most race-like. The 9.8 has the same build but is wider, and kind of on the wide side for a ski like this, as it makes it pretty heavy and lumbering--you need to be prepared to push into it in order to generate power and acceleration in carved turns. The Rally is somewhere in the middle--energetic and strong but still very grippy and agile. If you want the most speed/precision/performance, go with the Q9.
How close in comparison is the q9 to the s9? I got out on the s9 the other day in 165cm and absolutely loved it! Will the q9 have similar edge hold? Considering the q9 over the s9 for a little bit of versatility in the increased width underfoot. Is the build burly enough to ski short? I am 6’2” 260lbs and would love to ski the 168 to get into a shorter radius but not apposed to the 176. Thanks! I posted this same comment on you website but I wouldn’t go through.. sorry if it’s a duplicate!
Comments on our site won't go through until we respond or approve. The turn radius is the bigger difference, with the Q9 more amenable to longer and more sweeping turns. The edge hold and the power are very similar since the build is nearly the same, it's just a shape difference. I'd go 176 based on your stats and application.
Thanks for a review! I’m toying with the idea of buying a pair of Q9 but handing my rental skis today I spotted something named “Q9I” (or i or l) - they seem to have more of anthracite trim but what I can’t find any further info on them - would you have some insight into this? Thanks!
Iam thinking about buying the Q9 or the Forza 70, what is the biggest difference? I need a ski for softer conditions...beside my Head E-Race and Stöckling SL.
The Forza has better softer snow applications than the Q9. I like the Forza because it's a bit lighter and more mobile. You can vary/change turn shape and style a lot easier on that ski versus the Q9 which feels a lot more planted and heavy. I think you'll find more difference with the Forza with your current skis, and it sounds like that's a good thing.
Q9 are as a heavy tanker on the Barents sea..very stable and reliable but heavy and much less nimble. Very difficult in the powder and muldy slopes but great on well prepared ones!
Hey, I am currently using atomic x7 168cm (I am 188cm tall) and I like short and medium curving. Would you suggest buying this as an upgrade and will it suite my style or would you recommend something else? Thanks
This is a nice progression from the X7 as it keeps the waist width pretty narrow. Depends if you're looking for a wider bodied carving ski or keeping it more narrow for firmer snow. Either way, the Q9 makes very clean and round short to mid-radius turns at a very high level of performance.
I'd rather ski the Deacon in soft conditions. It has a long, yet low rocker profile that brings softer snow into the discussion quite well for such a strong carver. The Q9 is a lot more like a traditional race ski and does not excel in softer conditions.
@@SkiEssentials That's why I like Q9 a lot more on groomers, but I didnt ski neither on soft snow yet. I suppose the extra 9 mm and a rocker helps there.

Iam thinking about buying the Q9/Q9.8 or HEAD e-Rally, what is the biggest difference?

is this ski skiable with a weight of 65 kg, 177cm and being an advanced skier, or will it be too exhausting. And what size would you recommend?
It's pretty sturdy, but I don't think it's particularly exhausting. I'd say the 168 is good!

I don't see any difference other than the Q9i is not a US model--might be a simple graphic difference.

Hi, i m a skier for 40 years, with a snowboard experience between. I have 60kg and 5'7''. Wich lengh you recommend for the q9?
I think the 168 is the way to go here. Have fun!

How Q9 compares to Deacon 84 in soft conditions. Which ski is stiffer?
I'd rather ski the Deacon in soft conditions. It has a long, yet low rocker profile that brings softer snow into the discussion quite well for such a strong carver. The Q9 is a lot more like a traditional race ski and does not excel in softer conditions.

Nice!))
Why is the color the same as for 2023 model?
The Q9 was new last year, so most of the time a ski manufacturer will keep the same graphic for two years, but rarely longer than that.
Looks nice. How does it compare to the 22/23 model?
Same ski!
It is the same as 9x wb ?
Same footprint, and I'd guess it's the same construction other than the Servotec being replaced by the Revoshock.
