The problem with him being in the passing is that, he states that he has everything he needs (Excluding the cola) . There is no possible reason why he would try to go to wherever the passing and sacrifice occurs. And even if he tried to go there he would have to outrun a stock car. The devs reused his model because 99% of people don’t look at where he is nor knowing he actually has a model.
The model was originally used for the fallen survivor, but the infected was scrapped before the game’s release so it got re-used for Whitaker. It later ended up being added again in The Passing, so technically the fallen survivor is the original use of the model, and Whitaker is the re-used asset.

Dude the US air force bomb the entire area there. He miss his chance to go with he 4 survivors and his chance of survival automatically turns 0. he'll die on that place because of the constant bombing and if he survives the bomb run he'll still die on the hands of the military or CEDA when the area was clear of infected, because they can't risk one single immune/carrier alive. Remember when the 4 protagonist escape alive aboard the helicopter? The pilots become Infected because of them being a literal walking virus.

For the 4 survivor's case. They are a lethal carriers of the green flue and they didn't even know it. Remember the helicopter that Nick, Ellis, couch and Rachel borded in the final map of dark carnival? It crash in the map called swamp fever, because the pilot becomes infected and began attacking them. The same case happen to the previous survivors like bill, Zoe, Francis, and Louis.
It's definitely a reused model (Valve does this A LOT). As others have mentioned, Whitaker said he was properly barricaded atop his rooftop, and there is no way he got to The Passing's location faster than the survivors did. On top of that, there was once some promotional artwork of Whitaker for a Steam sale over a decade ago, and he looked *nothing* like that.

Something a lot of ppl for get is that the virus is airborn,and that the only reason the characters we play as havent turned is because they are some of the lucky few to have immunity,now is it more likely that the gunshop owner has immunity,or that he outran a car to a town mines away while in a probably close to braindead state. And another thing,there are multiple of these "Surviver zombies" in the chapter,most ive ever seen is 3 in the same map.

In L4D2 after the Military takes over CEDA's operations you can see some posters take encourage everybody thats alive to bear arms and gear which might explain why we see so many fallen survivors in urban areas or rural zones like Sugarmill. Or like everybdoy else says that VALVe reused his model because of not really everybody saw his model.
My theory is that, since all of the survivors are carriers, whoever touched the colas may indirectly responsible who infected Whitaker since a simple touch of it will result them turning or he was actually bitten and thought everything is okay. Le me with some imagination: After the Gunshop owner fired his rocket to make a path for the survivors to pass he realize something.If the survivors can manage to escape and find the Evacuation site,then so can him.He's expert at guns since he's the owner of the gunshop and he know 1 or 2 things for surviving.After a few minutes of thinking,the Gunshop owner decided to leave his shop and go to find the Evacuation site.With he's skills and knowledge at guns,he manage to easily pass throught the dangers and hordes of zombies.After traveling miles and fought countless hoards of zombies,he manage to get to the Bridge.As he exploring the place,a witch suddenly pop out of nowhere and infect him.As he about to turn into one of them,he pick all of he's stuff and strap it in his body so that whoever survivor see and kill him,they will get the items he have that they can use to survive.The gunshop keeper,all alone in the alley.Bleeding heavily and slowly turning into a zombie.He looks up in the dark sky,looking at them as the rain slowly pour in the place.He just smiled for the last time while thinking and hoping that the Survivor who delivered the coke to him are all in the Evacuation Center. -An imagination of mine 😁

Fun fact The fallen survivor's running away script was actually came from cut special infected called the Screamer. It's a special infected that scream after running away from the player. While the Screamer was removed, it is canon that, the screamer exist in L4d and it's the one who responsible for the Horde we heard when there's a event.

He didn't leave or turn, it's just a repurposed fallen survivor model. He's only visible for a few seconds, a quick glimpse of a man you'll never see up close instead of an empty room or a black void.
Whitaker is basically a cloned version of the Fallen Survivor Zombie. But instead, his model has Human Eyeballs so he would look like a survivor on Dead Center

The survivor zombie is not the same person, at least not necessarily since there are multiple of them that can be found and the fallen survivor is but another survivor who was prepped bu wanst immune like the survivors we control.
The fallen survivor was actually scrapped before l4d2 launched (you can see him in the game's intro when rochelle is shooting a horde with the 50 cal machinegun) then valve decided to use the model for the withaker since you weren't really meant to see him anyway, but in the end valve decided to add the fallen survivor back with the passing dlc.
This is explained in the comics, actually. The survivors in Left 4 Dead aren't immune to the virus, they ARE the virus, and everyone who gets near them turns. It's the most messed up thing about L4D. Whitaker would've survived if it weren't for them

Whitaker is a unique character in Left 4 Dead 2's DLC "The Passing." He is not a fallen survivor zombie or a copy of himself, but rather a character who has become infected and needs to be killed by the player.
Fallen survivor is an unusual infected, they 100% appear in the passing although I am almost certain the game's "director" has a random chance of spawning them in the Parish and/or Dead Center, uncertain wether they spawn in the other campaigns.

The Fallen Survivor isn't Whitaker. Valve just used a cleaned up model of the FS as a placeholder. Likely to save time (and money)

OR, they reused a model that people playing the game normally would never have seen.
He didn't leave or turn, it's just a repurposed fallen survivor model. He's only visible for a few seconds, a quick glimpse of a man you'll never see up close instead of an empty room or a black void.

Whitaker is basically a cloned version of the Fallen Survivor Zombie. But instead, his model has Human Eyeballs so he would look like a survivor on Dead Center
I feel this was Valve making a reference to the 2004 movie Dawn of the Dead. Andy was the gun shop owner who barricaded himself in, gets food delivered to him and later becomes a zombie

The survivor zombie is not the same person, at least not necessarily since there are multiple of them that can be found and the fallen survivor is but another survivor who was prepped bu wanst immune like the survivors we control.
The fallen survivor was actually scrapped before l4d2 launched (you can see him in the game's intro when rochelle is shooting a horde with the 50 cal machinegun) then valve decided to use the model for the withaker since you weren't really meant to see him anyway, but in the end valve decided to add the fallen survivor back with the passing dlc.
I still believe to this day that the guy was trying to use the cola as a way to make a cure lol. Why else would he be so insistent on it

This is explained in the comics, actually. The survivors in Left 4 Dead aren't immune to the virus, they ARE the virus, and everyone who gets near them turns. It's the most messed up thing about L4D. Whitaker would've survived if it weren't for them
There's a picture of Whitaker somewhere, he has a long moustache. The model used in the campaign is more of a reused asset to spawn the rocket or something like that
Whitaker is a unique character in Left 4 Dead 2's DLC "The Passing." He is not a fallen survivor zombie or a copy of himself, but rather a character who has become infected and needs to be killed by the player.

its because he drinks the cola which the survivors used beat zombies with that's why he became a zombie

I always worried that if I bashed any zombies with the cola I'd end up infecting him. I kept trying to do runs where I'd try to protect the cola.
Fallen survivor is an unusual infected, they 100% appear in the passing although I am almost certain the game's "director" has a random chance of spawning them in the Parish and/or Dead Center, uncertain wether they spawn in the other campaigns.
I don’t think anyone even noticed his character model honestly. I’ve played the game for years and not once realized you could see him. I think they just reused the model
