Not sure who this interviewer is, but he's one of the best North American hosts I've seen. He lets his guest talk, responds sensibly, doesn't have a huge ego, yet is casual enough to make it sound like you're eavesdropping on a normal conversation.
Q, a Canadian CBC production has always been great. Jian Gomeshi was a fantastic interviewer too until he left in disgrace for all the sexual harassment and sexual abuse allegations
@@guibox3 The Jian Ghomeshi interview with Tom Petty is one of the best in music history. Yet he also allegedly behaves like a psychopath. Possibly two very different sides of this former CBC Studio Q host.
I love the fact that lots of commenters are not just happy to see Bruce, but are also blown away by this awesome interviewer - Really happy that good journalists get respect where its due more and more these days.
Jesus Christ, this interview was extremely awesome. Way too often does it seem like the interviewer is passively nodding at all the answers; not this time though. Great job!
If there's anyone on earth that is truly worthy of respect and admiration, it is Bruce Dickinson. So brilliant and multi-talented and on top of all that he is very down to earth.
I'd like to meet him. Seems like ANY DUDE ya might meet. Grounded in reality. And not dilluded by his fame or that of the band. Be nice to drink "Red 'n Black" and just talk to the man.
The only thing wrong with this interview is that it isn't 2 days long. Just incredible, interviewer is excellent, and you can't help but admire Bruce for so many reasons, as well as all of Iron Maiden. What a treasure.
I have never heard Bruce talking in so open way - about his life, the band, Steve's amazing and profound lyrics, about his illness...He seems to become a humble person. I liked him so much and like him him twice more now! And really, The Book of Souls, has an amazing lyrics. You can feel that power energy and the cruel reality of daily life, as well. We are not going to live here forever - but in fact, we will live forever:-) Life after death goes on!
+Marek Strapko I think he opened up due to the quality of the interviewer, who only seemed to speak to ask the right questions to allow Bruce to keep speaking.
Yes n he's never done drugs. I seem to remember him saying once that he tried cannabis in the early days n didn't like it. He's escaped so many metal/rock clichés. A one off for sure. He's achieved so so much over almost 50 years.
Great, great interview. This has to be the best radio interview we've seen/heard done. Never interrupts, great questions and Bruce is a superb guest that doesn't go on and on because he's in love with the sound of his voice. Need more like this. We wish he and the band we'll.
The ENTIRE BAND should be granted the title, "Knight of the Realm". And by QUEEN ELIZABETH II, while she is still here. "GOD SAVE THE QUEEN! God SAVE IRON MAIDEN." A prayer from an American.
Excellent interview. Dealt with Prostate cancer last year and beat it (different cancer than Bruce of course) but happy to hear he's on the other side of it. Earned a sub on this one.
Firstly respect to the interviewer Shad - what a lovely guy & does an amazing job. Bruce may be a pilot but is metal through & through. His tenacity to overcome his illness and boldness mentally & physically is astounding. I worried for his voice back on the road but you would never know this happened!
Don't know the guy conducting the interview but he's one of the best I've seen. Very astute young man with a natural gift for bringing content out of the interviewee. Excellent stuff.
I've just discovered this interview with Bruce after spending Saturday 8th July 2023 at the 02 Arena in London watching/listening to Iron Maiden rock the place down. I can tell you for sure, his voice was totally on point. Great interview.
On of the best american hosts i have seen really. So polite, and he let's his guest talk finished, and he ask real interesting questions! When I saw him, I judged him to be a terrible interviewer, probably because of his style (i know it's shallow)....but he delivered great -and so did Bruce ;)
Bruce Bruce one of the most multi-faceted eclectic and diverse persons that I have been inspired by.He's a fencer, singer, pilot, songwriter, mediocre football player, father, husband, and front man for the band that's going to continue touring and recording after the maiden calls it a day!!!
Around 11 minutes in, he described Metallica perfectly. They made three awesome records in a 4-5 year span (KA/RTL/MOP) and that became their bedrock. They should take more time of their records (like Death Magnetic) to get that bedrock sound back instead of rushing through albums. Bruce is a genius.
Great interview and a perfect host, who knows what ist important for an interview. Choosing good questions. Right mixture between seriously and with humor (what belongs in music ,) ) and he ist listening to the answeres and takes position to it. He is in the whole thing and not working blindly through a (boring) catalouge. Great thing. This is the way what I understand under the term interview and radioshow.
he had EVERY REASON in the book to hate life and everyone, but instead even with cancer he said "Lets show this world what i can do" which is the most badass thing you can do. UP THE IRONS
This may sound unusual to some, but as a hip hop artist/producer, iron maiden has probably inspired me more than any other artist, group or band. I'm getting into more sample based music, bit not in the classic sampling sense. I create my own melodies and then choo them up. But I don't chop them the way most people chop Samples. And that's sort of where the iron maiden inspiration comes into play. They dared to be different. And not only did they dare to be different, they dared to be extremely different bringing bruce I to the band. It turned them from a punk rock band to a heavy metal powerhouse that would eventually become a force to be reckoned with. I think far to many bands and artists nowadays are too afraid to break the mold. They're all stuck on a hamster wheel. It's why most music these days sounds the same. This message isn't really to fans of music but to musicians. Don't be afraid to be different. Iron maiden and Bruce weren't afraid and neither should you. They're probably the most successful indie band that ever existed. There's a lot to learn from their history. It's definitely a master class on the indie music business. Regardless of what type of music you make there is a lot to learn from these guys.

Seeing Bruce talk about Steve's songwriting was really an awesome segment of this interview! The part about the ambiguity makes a lot of sense if you've seen Harris interviewed (or if you're a careful observer of Maiden lyrics), but nonetheless it's great to get this inside glimpse from this brilliant band's other lyricist.

"Tears Of A Clown"
All alone in a crowded room
He tries to force a smile
The smile it beamed or so it seemed
But never reached the eyes, disguise
Masquerading as the funny man do they despise
The false smile maketh of the man
Glass empty or half full
Try to make some sense or sorrows drown
All looks well on the outside
Underneath the solemn truth
There’s something that inside has died
Tomorrow comes tomorrow goes
But the cloud remains the same
Wonder why he’s feeling down
Tears of a clown
Maybe it’s all just for the best
Lay his weary head to rest
Was forever feeling drowned
Tears of a clown
