    Grand Junction Geometry Train chase GONE WRONG

    The video came out good! Glad to see 2 of my clips in there.
    The only thing I just want to point out though. The MBBs that were leased to CT Rail were not painted. They were given a wrap that would go over the original MBTA paint. If you lookup some photos I’m sure you can find at least one with the wrap pealing off the sides

    At 7:26 , do trains normally pass under this office building? Or was it for just this exercise? That’d be crazy if it did.

      Yes but not MBTA as far as I know. That building is part of the MIT campus

      Equipment moves only, not in revenue service. It’s on the Grand Junction line.

    • @BostonByRails
      @BostonByRails  3 месяца назад +1

      Yes! Almost every day atleast 1 train goes under it. The MBTA owns the tracks and uses them to transfer equipment 6x per week. Amtrak also uses it to transfer equipment to their Downeaster service

    Thank you, this does my old heart good. 40+ years ago, i was supporting a DOT Kendall (now Volpe) Economist who was trying to optimally allocate the scarce resource of the original Atrak Geometry car. The limited color gamuts of early Color Xerox copiers and CalComp plotters didn't mesh nicely when producing our Amtrak Atlas! Seeing MBTA using a Geometry car several times a year is delightfully non-scarce. ❤ (Wish i had a copy of that dataset ...)

    good to know I'm not going crazy because I stumbled upon the Geometry Train as I was working my last two weeks at my old job in Boston, I was walking by Track 4 at Readville on my way to the Providence Line on Track 3 and saw this weird consist of MBTA, Amtrak and CTrail cars going through the station and thought it was an oddball set of cars. Now I understand why it exists.

  • @MatthewMello
    @MatthewMello 4 месяца назад +1

    That 4 car consist to make track speed is a Keolis/MBTA rule for their trains only. All foreign lines operating on MBTA track is to run by their equipment handling rules.

    each time i see the CTRAIL cars in mass all i think about is them going on the housatonic even though it will never happen, even just from pittsfield to Canaan. if that did happen the entire mass section would be full of railfanns catching this extremely rare move/fan ride.

    Wow, that is something special. Won't it have to go back to the south side? If so do you know if it went back already or if it sill is yet to and maybe when? Amazing video as always!

    I gotta hand it to you man, when I go on a chase, I'm lucky to make it through the intersections alive either in a car or on a bike. It's not a fail if ya see something and live to tell the tale (with your proof obv) lol
