This is the story of the birth of modern chess - when the possibilities of chess as an art, a science and a sport all converged.
The point of convergence was a young boy from Louisiana named Paul Morphy. At a time when America was seen as a backwoods nation with little cultural history and even less intellectual impetus, at a time when chess was considered the exclusive property of a few European countries, at a time when the game was played successfully by a handful of men wizened by years, Paul Morphy, in the brief span of 19 months and with seemingly little effort, defeated conclusively every player he met.
While today few non chess players even know his name, he was one of the most famous celebrities of his time and within the hallowed halls of the chess playing community he is considered by some as the greatest chess player of all time.
But this diminutive, unassuming boy rose to fame almost out of nowhere and once he secured his place in history, he retired back into that hazy unknown, shunning the public eye, never again to play serious chess. Not only was he one of great practitioners of the game, but also one of it's greatest enigmas. He's been given the sobriquet, The Pride and Sorrow of Chess.

Lol 😂😂😂😂
Its hard
@@royallamoniquecosmicheavye4456 that opens it up for you know what...🤣
Nice😆😆😆
This comment is pinned to the king
Doesn’t help to study the endgame if you can’t get to it...
Noobs against Morphy?
2nd move = "we're in the Endgame now"
You destroyed someone who already is
Haha
He was an expert on the end game: and it really was the end of his game.. :)
The fact that he was blindfolded and playing 7 other games is insane.
Ya I cant even stand still, blindfolded
morphy was the absolute GOAT in terms of raw talent. no contest
It's not a big deal bro! Modern Super GM's can play 20 players blindfold.
@@football_ix_lovee yes blindfolded exhibitions are common but morphy pulls off the coolest moves blindfolded
@@football_ix_lovee When did that happen? I have seen one super gm player play one opponent blindfold and it decreased his playing strength but he still won. I think your number of twenty opponents at same time, you might have dreamed that one.
8:04 Medo starts barking...
Feel free to pause the video and try to guess who was at the door while I give you a couple of seconds...
So, for those of you who were able to do it congratulations on figuring out that it was not the mailman, and for those of you who just want to enjoy the show, it was Jelena.
ha
Doesn't she have her own key?
Well,tbh,.by instict,I knew it wasn't the Mailman.
@@ralph0149 I thought the same thing.
@@ralph0149 Well so do we assume that Medo will bark to those doesn't have a key, and will not to those who have it? Medo must be really smart after listening to agad good stuff everyday lol
8:24 and it was at this moment that we were all disappointed that it wasn't the mailman
if it were he would have to converse with the mailman as obviously that's what you do when you see a mailman
But we should all be pleased it was Jelena.
@@TheMattOliveira Unless you have an aggressive dog, in which case he probably dropped it outside your door and made a run for it! 😁
That moment that Antonio doesn't even bother to cut a pause to help his dog, and you realize that ALL OF THESE videos are done in one take. That's talent.
That dog has a name. Medo. He has fans all over the world.
and Medo is member #1 into the channel
He who doesn't like dogs has no soul! #DogLivesMatter
I love that these videos are "raw", no cutting, editing,...
@@alpha007org Funny how my innocent remark summoned a fierce defense to a non existent attack against the dog.
@@felipedeornelas8054 Truth be told. I answered below your comment because it had a lot of upvotes. I think nobody was attacking you. I didn't know the dog's name.
Mr. Preti's photo looks like one of those illusions where you see an old woman or a horse when looking sideways, or whatever
"It seems like good things will happen for you, but nope, they will not."
- Agadmator 2021
Morphy's games frequently show how chess can turn mere deep calculation into art. How beautiful, how elegant was that final attack?
And he was blindfolded :o
@@ex59neo53 How the hell do they do that?
Mere deep calculation?
Its just a board game. And you happen to admire it. Theres no need for all these dialogues.
@@SebinMatthew you've found yourself on the wrong channel then my friend
"Here you're facing Morphy, he's blindfolded and just look at this position. Surely good things will happen for you, but nope they won't." Now that's amazing commentary.
8:08 - Medo was shocked by the power of Morphy move .
11:41 - timely intervention by cat .
Only excellent subscribers watch all the way to the end and get to see the kitty
Jean-Louis: Monsieur Morphy, you should know I'm Preti good in the endgame.
Morphy: Then I shall crush you in the middlegame.
"Attack! Always attack!" Medo
What a beautiful, elegant, and unrelenting assault
Well put
Nice bunch of adjectives you put together!
11:41 And it was in this position that we have a completely new pet
😂😂
Unbelievable finish, can't imagine doing that blind.
I can’t imagine doing much at all blind, least of all play 8 games of chess simul.
Oh wait, he was blindfolded?
@@jaydead8825 Pretty much, he was in a room, and the players were in a whole different room.
I couldn't do it with my eyes open.
@@jaydead8825 He's blind and playing 8 games at once
11:03 The deadpan delivery of "Nope, they will not".
That's high comedy.
The Incredible, Paul Morphy, love this in lockdown.
How are you still locked down?
Other (lesser) streamers may be embarrassed by the dog going off in the background but not Agad! He just teases an amazing move and leaves us hanging. That's the good stuff indeed!
it's 4 am right now in malaysia and im about going to sleep..anndddd agadmators with his favorite line..
Same 😂
same buddy gmt +8 things
Every time I see a Morphy game, I am so sad that we have so few games of his to enjoy. He was just magical over the board. It was a great loss when he quit the game.
Did Morphy not talk to the ladies at the same time in Cafe de La regence during this blindfold?...even more humiliating.
Accidentally started watching the vid in 0.5 speed... That's epic
Hhheeeellllloooooo eeeevvvveeeerrrryyyoooonnneee!
Its like he is drunk haha
A hero, a legend, a drunk old bastard.
very epic....laughed for nearly half an hour lol.
how do you accidentally do that :))
"It never hurts to know a little bit."

Wow! This game literally just finished guys! Agad lightning fast with the uploads as per usual 🙌
This was the best chess game I've ever seen...... Paul Morphy, what a legend.
Morphy wiped the floor him.
The sheer beauty of Mr. Morphy’s games would cause any lover of chess to simply rejoice in the advanced abilities of a player of his capacity. Truly ahead of his time and it’s breathtaking. The most talented chess player of all time, EASILY
What you say is 100% true, but his name is Morphy.
@@dr.bluesfield3629 yes stupid autocorrect
Video 6 of begging that we award morphy the coveted MorphyHead™! He is worthy!
I wonder if Medo's barking is a strategy to keep the tension
Nothing better than a video of agadmator in the evening
Always nice to see a Morphy game.
Especially when Morphy just smashes them
He does this blindfolded, many games in parallel.. and here agadmator explaining his moves to me one by one yet I can't keep up..
Cracks me up every time Meadow interrupts a recording. 😂
*Medo
I just don't want this "Good stuff" to get over anytime soon.
I love these amazing Morphy attacks where he's once slight error from disaster at all times.
I don't comment very often, but watch all your videos...And I'm barely a beginner, but love the game...But I digress!... Yours is the best chess channel by orders of magnitude over most (all IMLTHO). Love it...Thanks man!...And I truly hope your recovery from the recent health issues are going perfectly.
Excellent. Loving the Morphy games... keep them coming, please.
Thanks for the good stuff!
Morphy plays in great style by walking away from the board and answering the door. Classic!
The Dog increasing the suspense
#suggestion for merch design: front side: "Just give me a second..." back side: "...nope, wasn't the mail man."
8:24 actually, I thought it was the dog, not Jelena. Little do I know
The Morphy Saga is even better than the Star Wars trilogy. Yes, I went there.
If you mean Ep 1-3 I would agree
The good stuff!
(Glad to be back, btw).
*Rubs hands*
"Let's see what Morphy gets up to this time," he says to himself.
That is one heck of a game. Wow!
Good stuff never fails.
I tried to follow the game while blindfolded but I lost track of the movements after e4.
Wow! I've been watching your videos for what seems like an eternity right now but this particular game made me make my third comment ever on your videos. My first one was a joke at you but I think it fell flat. Nonetheless I'm not an expert on chess by no means but I think this game for Morphy really stood out. You mentioned in the credentials of his opponent so I assume he has significant experience. So either Morphy just toyed with this man or torched him on purpose just to show off a little bit or this man should not have even attempted to sit across Morphy for a game, blind folded or not. I found this to be one of his more beautiful games of chess. Call me crazy but I don't care. Keep up the great and inspiring chess videos!
This channel is the best in RUclips !!!!
Nice vid!
Man, Paul Morphy was a goddamn badass. It sounds like he was the one to spawn that chess trope of the guy playing tons of people at once sometimes blindfolded, like in some movies.
Daily dose of good stuff taken 👍🏻
Same here Levent
@8:18 BRO! That pillow above the couch is fire xDDDD
Wanted to say I really appreciate the prelude with some history on Mr. Jean Louis Preti. It never hurts!
I can't play a single game this good while looking at the pieces, and Morphy does it blindfolded while playing 7 other games!
great stuff :)
Let's build up to the climatic move...and pause to check the door. Don't ever change Antonio.
After I checking yt for Agadmator's new vid every hour...FINALLY 😆
Truly the good stuff
I'm trying to figure out who is more cruel: Morphy for that brutal ending, or Agadmator for leaving us hanging like that!
What is the name of the Chess Cat? Was he looking at the game and thinking: "You call that an attack? Watch me sink my claws into Antonio's leg!"
Watching this channel has helped my chess immensely. I went from 700 to 1450 in rapid and nearly beat a 2000 player. Although, I'm sure he didn't take me seriously being over 500 points higher.
wow morphy was really just showing off!! killer attacks!
Wonderful
a work of art
the good stuff is the best thing on the internet
Amazing and beautiful chess from the blindfold master. Shouldn't Agadmator be wearing a blindfold to honour Morphy's exhibition? :-)
Daaamn this was brutal
For a second I thought it was the hoodie guy at the door
11:35 'and it was in this position that Agadmator became startled'
Hi Agadmator,
You super nicely pronounced the fmaous "Café de la Régence" ;)
Congrats to you !
These Morphy games awesome, but a thought occurred. How many interesting games did this guy play? Gonna run out at some point right? Oh no, now what??
He'll start a new saga. Probably Karpov or Kasparov or Polgar saga
That final attack by Morphy was absolute artwotk
This is just brutal
Love you :)
Brilliant game 🙂
I love that you are so humble when you are wrong👍
@Peter Mortensen yes. What game finished first
Happy days!
Agad, could you explain in a future video how you make these videos. What i’m curious about is how you seem to know all these games so well, because even though these moves are programmed, you still seem to know all the tricks in every position in every video, like, how. Would be very interesting to hear!
“A bishop pair from hell” love your zingers.
Get some!!!
Agad just an opinion you should make a video on the books a chess players should check on ( books which you think are really good) . As you have a lot of subscribers it will help a lot of chess lovers
Again love your work man big fan ❤️❤️❤️
I love murphy style and yeah he got all right to show of he is the best
AWESOME MORPHY!!!!!!!! AWESOME BISHOP PAIR!!!!!!!!
The dogs bark and Morphy moves on.-ancient Romanian saying
Ah, the cat gambit! nods knowingly.
In a blindfold? Just incredible..
He practically was playing down a rook and a knight that never got into the game
Morphy used his bishop to pin Preti's bishop and used his queen to pin Preti's queen. I've never done either one of those.
It was in this position, I skipped my work and start watching the video
Morphy games are very instructive for intermediate players.
Relentless attack
It's 1:35 nah I'll sleep after this...
3:48 Wasn't that the incident where you immediately resigned after it? Could have sworn that I heard you tell that story once.
Will, you ever release a vlog that revolves around Medo
Fear Medo!
8:04 it was in this position the dog got crazy before Morphy gets fancy
It sounds like he was stronger when he was blindfold
morphy's world tour beating other chess players is better than those travel bloggers who just clickbait everything
Wow!!
With that hairdo, Morphy was invincible.
