  • What is a confidence interval? It is a guess, and educated one. It is a "parameter catcher" and you hope to catch the true parameter.. but you never know if you actually did, because you don't know which p-hat you randomly got!!!

Thank you! I had been struggling to understand the theory behind confidence intervals but the following line of thought you used did the trick for me.
"_Start off_ by _supposing_ that you know μ. That tells you what the distribution of x̅'s will look like (Gaussian around μ)! Suppose that you happened to choose an x̅ that is -1 SDs from μ. When you construct a 95% CI, it'll contain μ. Suppose you happened to choose an x̅ that is -3 SDs from μ. When you construct a 95% CI, the CI won't contain μ. Repeat this line of thought for different x̅'s and you'll see that the constructed CI will contain μ for all of the x̅'s between -2 and 2 SDs from μ, which is 95% of the x̅'s."

You are a great teacher. I would like to nominate you as one of the best teachers in statistics. You are enthusiastic, you like teaching and most of all you know how to clearly make people understand the concepts. I wish there were more teachers like you out there. You are providing a great service to students.
Unfortunately, colleges/schools are full of so called teachers who do not know a thing about teaching. Just because they have PhD it does not make them a good teacher. Actually, many of them don't even like teaching. Colleges and schools should be more careful in their selection process. Such teachers become a source of annoyance to the students.
