If you enjoy this, there is Lithuanian guy, who have a e30 project also, he is doing everything even better, and showing everything from better angles. :)
This bad boy finally got sent to church, and it came back as holy as you’d expect. Was needlessly worried about the roof, but you were way ahead of me.I agree, there’s not much as satisfying as blasting things clean. It’s almost as satisfying as watching these videos. Thanks again for sharing your journey of restoration with all of us!
This is why I love older cars, because to do a full strip down like this project of yours takes both time and money to do, but in the end it feels like an accomplishment to have done all that work to restore the vehicle to original factory new quality.
This is incredible. This car will be even better than new, and I'm sure having these videos as a log will make it that much more gratifying. Keep it up!
As someone who's worked on cars, and rusty ones in particular, I understand how long it takes to go through this process. But I still want more videos lol. Keep up the great work!
My body, produced in 1985, has the same problems, as well as someone unsuccessfully welded the rear arches, and the internal wing over the adsorber in the rear right arch also rotted. The same holes in the legs of the driver and passenger. Also rotted shelf under the battery. These are standard car data problems. I look and I am glad you are doing everything perfectly. For welding, use semi-automatic welding and welding mix with argon and carbon dioxide. The arc becomes completely controllable. The seam is smooth and clean, without pores.
There is something almost hypnotic about watching a car being sandblasted, though the sins it often reveals aren't much fun. Still, if you're going to do a resto, i've always believed that going back to the bare chassis is the right way to do it. Great video, thank you!
Beautiful work and proper dedication to the project! Make sure the chassi is not warped before you put it all togheter. The pre facelift hard worked E30s have a tendency to sag.
time to undo all of the rust damage that the rainy UK weather did to your Bimmer! hopefully BMW Group Classic offers repair panels that will restore the shell to what it was the day it left the Munich Body shop!
at least your government doesnt bring any reagents to melt the snow like in moscow they do. You really should search some videos about ours repairing jobs. Most of the cars we deal with you would call dead
I actually have seen a video of someone repairing a ZaZ Vida (a Chevrolet Aveo in the US) that looked like it was rear ended at 90 MPH and completely collapsed the trunk area.
@@digitalrailroader our cars are a separate topic for conversation. Shitty and thin metal. Nothing to hope for. Even bmw with zinc on their carcass are dying when covered in salt for 4 months of wet winter
It’s not the rain that does the damage, it’s the grit/salt they put on the roads in the winter. If you avoid driving a car over winter until they’ve stopped gritting and the rains washed the grit away (which can take ages because they put so much down) then they hold up ok unless you live by the coast.
I feel for you! I am surprised with that large volume of sand that the process seems to take so long. I sand blasted my jeep frame with a regular sized sand blasting gun and it took me a whole summer and not sleeping and blood shot eyes to get it to the grey primer. Cheers nice to see someone working hard
There needs to be a replica of that body in stainless steel. a lot heavier I suppose but no rust problems anymore. Alternatively galvanising it would also be a rust preventative measure. Good job so far!
I am not a fan of BMW however I am a gearhead and a fan of other peoples passions mind blowing job you have done on this car awesome vids very inspiring!
Love your videos. Just a tip. I owned a soda blast firm in the UK. The sand grit can cause surface rust and warpage. Soda is the way to go. Get that shell sealed asap buddy. The rough texture is a place where moisture sits on.
The comments about your left-hand drive car going to a right-hand drive country ( didn't read them all) I think are pertinent. Since this entire restoration appears to be a labour of love, to me it is frustrating to watch all this fabulous discovery of your talents for detail in restoration on a car which will be dangerous and distracting to drive. I see left-hand vehicles here in Canada occasionally, and while the vehicle itself may be precious on all sort of levels simple everyday practicality is not there.
Awesome. I have a silver 1986 2 door 325i L6 manual with only 120,000 miles on it. The dashboard is perfect and the roof liner is perfect. I paid $500 for it from a friend who's uncle was the original owner and he babied it. My friend was moving and couldn't take it with him. I've already had a $6,000 offer on it, unsolicited. I love your videos. Oh, one thing I found out. I had to replace the rack n pinion on it and for the same price the rack n pinion off of a new BMW Z fits perfectly. Cost exactly the same as the stock one
This reminds me of a friend who was childless. He put all his energy into rebuilding his spilt-window Corvette from the ground up. When he finished, it was immaculate. Then his wife announced that she was pregnant. He was happy but cautious as he wouldn't be certain until the child was born that he would, at last, be a father. On the day of her birth, he was so elated that he had a few too many drinks with us at the local watering hole and disappeared before we could take the keys from him. He wrapped that beautiful car around a concrete street lamp and broke several bones in the process. When he came to, his perfect Corvette was nothing more than a mass of unrecognizable wreckage, but the proud papa took it all in stride and his daughter is doing well. Now he just drives recent model BMWs. True story!
I did not watch your full video previously, but started to get e30 part restoration videos one by one in my recommendations. Suddenly I started to think that someone will have a clean restored e30 someday) subscribed! Keep us posted!)
To do this he will have to weld firewall, and overall cut and weld a lot in motor section, which will make it less hard structurally. It's better off just to find a different body with a left sided steering column
Are you putting it back to factory original or going to make some upgrades on brakes and suspension or ?? You have a drive that I lost long ago but love your videos PEACE:)

Restore It seal the bare metal with your primer or a epoxy primer so it won't rust ( in a few days /weeks surface rust will start building up )

Nice part is the car is completely stripped so he can plasma cut without fire risk

I see seas of grit, bad repairs too
I see them removed for me and you
And I think to myself what a wonderful world

i dont think thats good for the paint

Think of the weight savings
respray my dude
@@luuk3213 gonna need to resand everything because after sand blasting surface is very rough and it need double amount of primer or resending
@@el_kuks well, that wasn't my point. My point was that it'S gonna get resprayed anyway, so preservign the paint doesn't matter
Respect for pulling the trigger and stripping it down to the bare metal. Really rooting for this one.
Now's the perfect time to convert it to left-hand drive like the Car Gods always intended it to be. 👍
