I’m glad you were able to do a client without gloves while experiencing minimal irritation to your hands. Also I hope you find a good allergist who can help you get to the bottom of this so you can continue to do what you love in comfort. 🙏🏾❤️

It's sad that you had to go through that to get the last dermatologist to do an allergy test. It's hard to find good doctors that really care and want to help patients these days. Many just give prescriptions that don't work instead of getting to the right of the problem. Props to you for observing the products/product and the side affect it caused. I pray that you will continue to heal. Blessings to you. 🙏🏾❤️

Still also dealing with the same issue as well. I’ve just compensated by using less water and soap and trying my best to moisturize with hydrocortisone. It’s a just a bandaid on a wound, but also idk what to do. I feel for you though, because in your line of work, avoiding water and soap isn’t an option. It’s been 4 years for me. The hyperpigmentation/lichenification definitely eats at self esteem a bit.

I’m happy to hear that things are improving, even if slowly. I do hope the culprit is just Aphogee, so then you can eliminate it and only focus on healing. I’m sending you lots of healing energy. I hope all ends well ❤

I think it’s wild that a derm would know that your a hairstylist - assuming you must have told her that’s your profession,
and advising against a allergy test. Then giving it to you after you demanded it AND STILL not testing for cosmetics.
That’s so crazy to me 🤨 - that would literally be one of the first things to put on the list.
Hope it continues to get better Nerada!

Was in the hospital with my mom and had to wear gloves. Having them on long term would make my hands turn black. I do wear gloves when I do my hair but gloves can also intensify the allergic reaction from products etc. Meaning I am allergic to salicylic acid, willowbark, aspirin, etc. Even with gloves on those products would make me break out and often more quickly. I was not using those products on myself but thought I could do my daughter's hair with products that contained those ingredients. Other culprits for me are hand sanitizer, any type of antibacterial products like dish detergent, soaps, soaps in public bathrooms, cleaning products, etc. Also for me the reaction dictates that I take meds by mouth (allergy med, pepcid, and a steroid). Also because of the contact dermatitis some of the ingredients in topical cortisone and other creams can be a part of the allergy that I have to cobalt and disperse blue 106. It is a lot to digest but is workable. Another thing to maybe watch out for is feathers. Same reaction and intense itching. When you stay at a hotel or airbnb or even buy new pillows or linen, watch for feathers.

I hope you find answers and relief soon. I’m going through issues with my face. It’s so hard when you feel dismissed by doctors. I hope the allergist can help pinpoint the chemicals you react to.

I have the same issue with my hands. It started after C-19 and it flares really bad with foam hand soaps. I’m not a hair stylist but I use the aphogee leave in and it does not affect my hands. For me I think detergents have changed after C-19 and certain cleansing agents cause my hands to blister and break out. I hope it gets better for you!

For me the itching that surpasses my hands is usually when I spray a bathroom cleaner, even eye glass cleaner can cause a problem. Now that I am irritated, alcohol can cause a problem on the back of my hand but not the palm of my hands. As far as healing, I think if you take an allergy med, it will heal faster. Benadryl does not work as well for this type of reaction (for me), I take sometihng else that starts with hydroxy and ends in zine, not sure if I can put it on here but a google search will lead you to it.
