Informative and articulate video! Very well done.
From a former AA flight attendant (17 years), you did a great job conveying the important information, how pay can vary, why, and how much control the FA has over their earnings.
I appreciate that you didn't put a distracting background and/or music with this video. This is one of those topics where people really NEED to hear what you are saying and not be distracted by fluff. Keep up the great work!
This video has been so helpful! Thanks for your transparency!
Great video. I learned a lot. I didn't eve realize you have music in the background until I read the comments below.
Okay first of all I love your hair is so pretty. Secound of all a flight attendant job sounds fun because you get to go to different countries and different states.
It really is the best job in the world (at least if you ask me)!!
Thank you for being super informative!
BLESSED beautiful intelligent happy holiday season
I've been on many airplanes, but never have I had a flight attendant this hot.
Being a flight attendant is literally a childhood dream of mine. Even though im in nursing school right now, a tiny part of me is like THIS IS SO COOL😃😃😃😃
Build for Glory seriously my dilemma right now! I am in nursing school but have always thought of becoming a flight attendants for a bit.
Follow your passion. If you’re not 100% committed and invested in being a nurse, you will burnout quickly and want out. It’s a very different but very mentally and physically demanding job. Good luck with whatever you love!
I've had several attendants that came from nursing or the medical field. Its very common. I don't think the money is as good and some days you're going to feel like a babysitter for certain passengers, but its a different kind of lifestyle with more days off every month and travel benefits.
Build for Glory be both
Filippina hu?
Thank you for all the info, love your channel
Always so informative!!!!!!
Kat...Have you done a video on the benefits of regionals vs mainline? I have a CJO with a regional starting in May...getting a little nervous as I seem to hear that mainline is the way to go from most of the FAs I have been studying. Thanks. You're the best.
I have not but I can definitely try to shoot a video comparing the two and my experience with both!
Very interesting 🤔. I almost didn't watch this video, even though I love you, because it felt like I was being Really nosey! 😔😕. Tfs 👍🏾
Wow! Thank you for the information ❤️❤️.Love the make-up.
I turned down a position as a flight attendant in 1986, I missed an opportunity to see the world
Thank you. oh my God, you are really helpful. love you channel
Contract? Lucky girl...here 35 years with a Major without one! Not employee fault. Cannot afford to retire. Go girl Save all you can...Time goes soo fast.!
I have tatts and applied to literally every airline.... so happy i found u
Thank u for breaking this down! I looked into this a while back last I checked they started $13.50... there’s no way I can live off this... but I can see how flight attendants can make their money....
thank you so much for the useful information. u have covered each & every details , they are very useful. Great content
Thank you so much!!
I love this kind of content! (I’m a newer subscriber!)
What lipstick is that though? I need that. Lol.

Came across your videos and had to subscribe, I have an interview next week and your information was very helpful in pros and cons and understanding everything about AFA Thank you🤗
I really appreciate it and I'm glad you're here! Also, good luck at your interview that's super exciting!!
Omg I have an interview next week with a major carrier too. That’s awesome. Good luck with everything. 🙂

Good luck to you as well!! I hope you do great!
I love your hair dark more so than the red, you’re beautiful no matter what color, just thought I’d offer my unsolicited opinion 🤣
Great video; very informative
Thanx for the info. I've always wondered...
Awesome information! Enjoyed your video. I worked in the airline industry but only on the ground. I tired for the airline when I worked there but didn't qualify because of my height. 😭
Thank you so much!! How tall are you??
your make up in this is so pretty :)
you're so brave.. i almost panicked with the turbulence. o-o
I love your video ...It is very informative from your point of view and what you experienced ...You started and title your video as the "HOW MUCH $$$ ... And I loved it...it IS NOT misleading and very informative. The only thing I am not sure about it ...was the "ON-CALL " RESERVE / ON DUTY ..meaning ...How many hours in a 24 hours clock per day one person can be on-call and how many day will that last? ... Thanks
excellent commentary.... finally someone got it right;)
these videos are amazing. my daughter made it to Dallas, her interview is tomorrow. fingers crossed. I just do not know why she is so scared. she's been in the restaurant business for 4 yrs and always got promoted faster than what they said on interviews. managers love her. one said, "I never have to ask her to do anything, she's the best, I wish I had 10 of her"
UPDATE: she came home from interviewing with AA in Dallas and felt good. We rehearsed her honest answers to the questions they provided and I role played as an AA person to alleviate any nervousness on FaceTime for 2 hours night before. I binged all of your videos for 2 days and love your channel. It helped us prepare but also understand if there are 10 openings and 1000 applicants, it is what it is and to stay positive and keep applying. If you are ever in LA on a layover let me know cuz I'm buying you dinner!!!
Did she get it?!!
Shelia we don’t know yet. I think they follow same plan like United. When she went to interview with United in Houston a few weeks ago they said 7-10 business days. Then sent a generic “not right now” thank you for your time email.
Janet Dungan well good luck to your daughter! Keep us updated!
@@samboone7687 got another email that they needed her diploma, so we sent that. still waiting.
Thanks this video helped me alot🤗❤
Yay so glad to hear that!
Can I make a suggestion, please, please, please do not use background music. It's so distracting and so very unnecessary.
Yes it was one of the first videos I made so I was still learning how to edit.
N Bee I like the music, but maybe something less poppy
@guess what well dang, tell us how you really feel.
@guess what they asked nicely, and your reply was so rude!
Personally, I have chronic illnesses, and I have difficulty hearing speech when there's background music going on. Because it's ok for you, doesn't mean it's ok for other people with hearing issues or other disabilities!
I didn’t even notice it?? Until I read this comment.
Get portable lighting. I know a lot of airlines don’t pay you unless you are in the air. Does the airline pay for your hotel room if you have to stay overnight? What are the minimum ages for F.A?
I worked for Labor Market Information in the Dept. of Labor and Employment. Your answers were more forthright than when we called the airlines! Fascinating!
Not a makeup expert, but damn yours is A+ fire
Hello there love your content ! I was wondering is there flexibility to attend school for your masters while working as a flight attendant ? That is, where the schedule for school is already set in stone lol. I hope you see this question! Thanks again !
My question exactly
Heyyyyy!! Im in Charlotte!!! Thanks for this video Im very interrated in making a change but I'm afraid financially
You're very welcome! I hope this helped!
Always been super curious about this and it was very informative, thanks. Also, absolutely nothing wrong with the background lol
Your nails, lipstick, eyes, and shirt all match!!
Haha thanks!!
Just came across your channel and love it already! I’ve always wanted to become a flight attended I’m not actually from the US I’m from Scotland! Is it hard to get a job as a flight attended as I see so many rules like you have too dress and look a certain way?
One of my best friends was an attendant for years. Including overseas. She said flight attendants live together because you can’t afford to live alone. You only get paid for the time actually in the air. All the waiting time is unpaid.
I feel like that depends on the airline.
When I was flying a million years ago I don’t remember the salary, but it was higher than my brother who was a lawyer. What we did get that you didn’t mention was 1 perineum for every meal we were away from our homes, approximately $ 4.00 breakfast, $ 9 lunch $ 15 dinner, though we mostly ate first class food, 2 a second language doubled your daily pay, 3 transportation costs if they gave less than 4 hrs notice to you if you were on reserve plus scheduled to work that day. 4 a parking spot at the airport 5 dry cleaning experiences even though our uniforms were wash & wear? 6 the airlines reserved and paid for all our rooms (private). Plus we got way longer layovers, if we went to Europe or Hawaii or Japan etc you got at least 3 nights. I’d go on but I’m exhausted I’ve been coughing all day so good night
Uh, "...1 perineum for every meal..." ?
Lewis Byrd
Wow that sounds great. It’s not like that anymore. Not at all. Lol
That must have been pre de-regulation.
Just being nosey but I found it all fascinating. I had no idea there were so many different scales and such.
You can make 6 figures as a flight attendant. I know quite a few who do. You’ll have to work more and be at top out pay or close to it to do so but not impossible at all. I’m on 3 year pay for my airline and will make about 50k. Averaging 12-14 days off a month if I’m trying to work a lot. Once I reach top pay and new contracts are in place I’ll easily make 100-115k working about 100-120 with per diem, profit sharing, and incentive pay. Pay is nice once you stick out the first few years and get off reserve where you can really control how much you work etc.
Really? I thought the pay was so bad that it made me just run away from ever pursuing a job ad a flight attendant
triky5384 when you start out and are on reserve it’s harder to make decent money. Definitely are able to make a decent living once you get a line (major airline) . So many different variables to consider when talking about pay one of those things you have to just stick it out in the first few years cuz it gets much better. (Feel free to message me if you have any questions)
I have a question. I want to work at delta. I want to have off at least 2 days a week, is that possible?
I love how your nail and lip color coordinates 💕💕💕💕
Haha thank you, it's the little things!
Love new hair style
💜 your hair extensions girl ....👌
I am excited and scared all at the same time to try and apply to be a flight attendant! I have always sucked at pushing the credit card my job has.
If you’re stationed in an expensive city (aka New York), is the starting salary more? Or is it still the same as if your first base is Charlotte?
Leah Gonterman the pay is the same regardless of where you are based. At least it is with American Airlines.
Probably depends more on how big the airline is or where their main ports/airports are.
They have supplemental earnings like 300 extra for NY city per a flight attendant
@@nicoleneokunola6049 WRONG ‼️
A flight attendant working for a large carrier can make, from working the least amt of hours; (those that fly for the flight benefits) $20,000.... to over $200,000 a yr if they are flying 160+ - 200 hrs a mo. .... International, Purser, Language, high time efficient trips. $130,000 a yr is just under $11,000 a mo. 160 hrs, 5 wks of vacation $69.00 an hr.
D Carboni A lot of it depends on number of years someone has worked for the company and which company they are working for. Because this will also determine pay scale, whether they’re a reserve, and what type of trips they can hold (I.e international). That’s why it can be hard to place exact numbers and varies greatly from flight attendant to flight attendant.
Moo
If you fly over 120 hours a month you are never home and your health and mental health goes down the drain. Most flight attendants fly their normal hours and do this job for the lifestyle, not so much to get rich. Flight attendants are wealthy in travel life experiences. The wealth lays in being worldly people.
@@cassandra2685 Thanks for sharing this. My physical and mental health are down the drain, but I'm in Texas and have yet to visit immediate family in the EU that I grew up without. I'm wondering if it'd be worth the trouble to go for this kind of a job, especially when ITTT does teaching English certifications for $300-400. Some countries do free or discounted plane tickets. Just more factors. I would like to go back and forth often, but I actually am very afraid of flying 😥
Thanks for this video KAT =)
Thank you for the information Kat. Very informative. I am in the interview process with an international airline. Do you see many FA's that are older, such as myself? I am 48.
I've seen older flight attendants, go for it!
When I went to training my roommate was 60. She definitely didn't look it. A male classmate was 64.
I think one of my customers from recent years is a coworker of hers. Nice lady who's in her mid-50s. Stayed in good shape and looks really awesome in uniform :) Definitely Mom vibes in a good, comforting way!
Thanks for this video! Could you do one about how to become/apply to be a flight attendant?
I have an entire series on my channel already if you are still interested!
The walls looked pink in the background. On a lighter note your hair looks awsome.

Hey love you video! Let’s support one another
It’s not about the background. It’s about the content. 😚
Exactly
66 dollars ..ok .who knew
Thank you!!!!
Not sure how anyone with real bills can 'afford' this job($30hr x 75hrs month = $2250 = $27k/yr). This seems like a 'part-time' job for someone semi-retired or that has someone else carrying the financial load.
Just think how little those employees who are not in front of the passengers make. I made $10/hr as a full time baggage handler, $20/hr as a load controller 😱
That’s more than a lot of ppl make in a year... more than I make with a full time job. And I have “real bills” lol
Lmao i live with 1k a month and i have real bills, rent, other payments...
She does have a husband with a good job and she does RUclips and whatever else she got going why do you care what she can afford and fyi people all over have real bills and make way less sometimes people just need to shut up sometimes
It’s like you completely disregarded the part of the video that she said people can take more hours or they work other jobs...
I never understood why anyone would fill out a credit card application on a plane and give it to the flight attendants. All your info and SS numbers on it and the risk of that info being compromised. Am I missing anything? Is that specific info left off the application until a later date? I am curious as our recent flights were really pushing the credit cards. Thank you! Ps love your long hair in these older videos. (Edited for spellcheck word)
Exactly -- why I never sign up for credit cards. Airline cards all have hefty annual fees, so you are not really getting any free miles out of them, and then they're going to sell your information to other banks and you'll get an avalanche of junk mail out of it as well. They are the worst cards to apply for. I have one through Costco that pays the best cash back money of any card you can get.
yaimavol So true with the junk emails. Curious what are they paying for cash back on the Costco card? I have Cap one cards that pay you back 1.5% with really high available credit amounts. I have family that have airline CC ‘s and they put all their monthly expenses on it and pay it off each month so they get a lot of free mileage and upgrades? It’s with a major airline. IDK they seem to pay triple price for their airline tickets with this perk vs me shopping for a deal each time.
@@g-bgcg Yep, in the age of Orbitz you can get cheap flights if you book early. Costco cash back is according to this formula:
Gasoline 4% HUGE for me and that is good at ANY gas station
Restaurants and all Int'l purchases 3%
Costco purchases 2%
All others 1%
Also no int'l currency change fees
Now, you do have to pay $ 60 for the annual Costco membership, so you could say there is an annual fee on that card.
yaimavol cool. Thanks for the info, I will have to check it out.
@@yaimavol - there are some free ones, though. Not the best but not the worst.
hey i had a major question for you because i'm out of the us, i'm from the caribbean would i be able to apply for american or united airlines if they come to my country or no? i have my us passport and visa.
Same here
I have an odd question: are there other airline jobs involving travel that are not flight attendants? Maybe this is outdated, but it used to be expected that flight attendants were called "stewardess" because they were all young ladies. If you are a man, or if you are older (I'm both) and you'd like to travel and make money while doing it, what kinds of opportunities are "out there"?
I am old enough to remember when the deregulation was implaments, 1978 I believe, I say the pay for all flight crew start to fall, they did try with pilots, but it back fired with the senior pilot. As soon as the government suspended the garrentee to small town like iron mountain MI, pop 8000 2015, or Ladysmith WI, 20.000 , these tows became part of the feeder spoke system , that take alot of time to explain. These are now called regional airlines. In the last 45 years, the airline industry has talked apart, after the virus is over , this will be totally different.
Well you could do 4 turns a week worth 10hrs each Mon-Thur or spilt it up Mon/Tue & Thur/Fri and get 40hrs a week, but you probably would have to pick up some of those turns since you probably will only get assigned 100 hour max. I flew 233hrs one month and it is doable you just have to really really really work your schedule.
Oh my god what lipstick are you wearing?! I want one exactly like that!
I want to know this tho lol
Lips and nails+++++
How long would I have to fly regional before applying to a mainline airline? And would you happen to know the best paying regional airline? Thank you so much 💕💕
I’ve recently applied to be a flight attendant and I have an interview any pointer on how to ace the interview
Did you make it?
No wonder they are kind of pushing you into signing up for credit cards
Holy crap! I made 15.90 and hour when American was TWA 30 years ago!!
Shannon H. American was never TWA. TWA became American in 2001. Let’s not get that twisted! 🤣
How do overnight stay works? Like does the company pay for your over night stay if you end up having the fly out the following day again?
Ooooo. That’s good
Yes, they pay for our hotel stay and transportation
Orange lipstick looks great on u
I have so many questions! I’ve always wanted to be a flight attendant, childhood dream! But I am a single mother. My questions are:
1) which mainstream do you work for?
2) is it easier to get on with a regional and gain experience before going main stream?
3) are you able to be a reserve flight attendant only?
1). She flies for American.
2). No. Regionals have nothing to do with the idea of being “entry level” Apply with a major carrier. A puddle jumper pays a poverty wage.
3). All depends on seniority. At least it did when I flew. If her airline does rotating reserve you will have do your fair share in a year’s time. We didn’t use the terms regional and mainline. I guess she means express airline and major US carrier. But when I flew the two had nothing to do with one another.
Awesome video!
I really appreciate it!!
good video
Hi Kat, love your videos. ?? Whats are the chanced of getting hired and live in my current city? Grand Rapids, MI. How is the BASE City Determined? thank you.
For the longest ever. Being a flight attendant was always my dream. But my dad didn’t care for it. So i went to college got a Degree and another Degree. Now i have this huge debt and jumping from job to job because i am so unhappy. Now i am 34, 2 children and wondering if this is still a possibility for me. It is so hard. My mom says go for it, but starting over is extremely nerve-racking.
Kat, you are very well spoken, please go back to college and get a Masters in Marketing, Work in entertainment marketing
Can you start out as mainline or is it better to start regionally to get that experience before you apply for a mainline company?
How would you go about applying and what airline would you recommend
Same I want to apply to but I don’t know where to go
Same here. I know I can look up the airline online to apply, but I would like to start off on the right foot with this neat company you work for.
Kat, so what examples of airlines are regionals? Southwest, delta be mainline? Regional be spirit airline?
Andrew delta, American, and united are mainline
Southwest, jet blue, and spirits are budget
Airlines that fly planes smaller than 100 seats for mainline are regional (SkyWest, endeavor, etc)
Jacqueline Talley gotcha. Figured I was close. Thx for clearing that up
@@jacquelinetalley6072 Good explanation, but I would call SW a mainline airline now.
I love your vlogs
Thank you so much Rebecca!
So interesting, I‘m a flight attendant in Europe and things are pretty different actually
I would love to know what it's like over there!
How is it different :)
I enjoy your info, and your up upbeat positive attitude.
Would being a flight attendant be hard with a little one at home?
How do you keep record of your time? How do you know your pay is accurate?
Great question! Usually they have a record for you to look at to compare with your paycheck, but it's always good to keep your own personal record of your trips and hours as well!
I’m wondering about the commute from Charlotte. I heard it’s a nightmare with so many airline commuters there.
Depends on the time of day and day.... They're doing so much construction at the airport that sometimes it can be hard to get into the departure and arrival areas even in the parking lot shuttle. It's getting better and hopefully in the next few years it will all get done...
YOUR ALRIGHT KAT, HI THIS IS MARIE REYES. JUST USING MY SONS PICTURE, THIS IS THE KIND OF JOB I WANT, I'M LEARNING FROM FLIGHT ATTENDANT VIDEO'S FIRST, BUT I HAVE THAT PERSONALITY ALREADY, I HOPE I SEE YOU AROUND, I WOULD LOVE TO BE INVITED ON YOUR STUDIO, HAVE A GOOD DAY
I have dreamed of being a flight attendant my whole life! I have been a hairdresser 21+ years. I am really looking into applying. I am worried because I would need to commute since my family can not be uprooted at this time. I would still work doing hair in my off time. Is this feasible for reserve flight attendants? What do you think about commuting? I would think I could manage this if I could get a base somewhat close to where I live.
I won't even begin to lie, commuting is tough! It takes a lot of planning, a lot of extra time traveling and being away from family, and depending on where you live and where your based you may need to take more than one flight. But commuting is doable. Many people do choose to commute. You may not get based near home right away so try to look for an airline that has a base near your home so you can eventually try to transfer. If being a flight attendant is your life's dream, you'll find a way to make it work I promise! Just like many other flight attendants do.
I have a question. What’s the pro and the con of being a merry flight attendant? Can someone answer please
How much does flight attendant school cost? Also, can the training be done on line?
So, from what you say, i´d deduct that a flight atendant should earn betwen US$ 18.000 (regional flighst with no extra)...until about... US$ 50.000 a year (international flight working 100%)?
I have three careers and this is one😊
What are the other 2?

As a new hire and in reserve with 75 hrs guaranteed, can I just keep it at that level of hours while I get the hang of things in the first months? And slowly pick up more flights? I’m on phase 3 for f2f in Minneapolis and feel I would get the training part but am just nervous about feeling overwhelmed
Can you be a flight attendant with acne? This is my biggest concern since I have acne and some scaring 🥺
Sorry if this has been answered, but how much do you typically need to work minimum to keep benefits/ health. :) thnks
Can you do this part time? Or just a few trips per month?
Can you please give more details about what are some of the second jobs flight attendants may have?
Sure! Some do special projects through their company, some bartend, some sell products on the side like (lipsense, oils, tupperware, etc), some do youtube like me, some actually work directly with other companies that are flexible with their schedules, and more.
Oh cool! But would it be alittle difficult for reserve flight attendants to have a second job ?
@@dewdropsweetthisle2753 It can be challenging depending on what you are choosing to do for sure.
I think something like driving for Uber Eats would work perfectly for a second job here. You make your own schedule and can be working while you are waiting to be called out. You literally just pick up food and deliver it. If you haven’t picked the food up you can cancel and go off line to head to the airport or home.
Who decides who the lead flight attendant will be on each flight? When can a flight attendant start being the lead? Also, who can work in first class?
It’s always been my dream to be a flight attendant. But now I’m 38 and have three kids so I don’t know how that would work. What kind of experience would I need to get a flight attendant job Kat?
I'm 40 and it's my dream also I don't think you need much of experience. I think you just need to go in there and WOW them, as a very small percentage of people that apply actually get hired. I would suggest joining the future flight attendants groups on Facebook they're super supportive and super helpful. Good luck babe 💋.
