Her spike action looks so effortless yet could easily reach 80+. Also once she is in the air, it looks like she could hit the ball to go anywhere on the court. Amazing range of fire power !

One point should be noted is, in this video, most attack by Gong were set by YaoDi. We can see that Yao manage to create good chance for Gong, as Yao manage to fake the blockers, so Gong just need to face one blocker, or there is a large gap between blocker. So, I think this video can be a tribute to Yao as well.
In China’s volleyball system, opposite spiker is usually not a top quality attacker, which is contrary to EU system. So Gong is considered NOT BAD, but definitely replaceable... China’s main attacker is usually outside spiker.
thats not true, in chinese system, the opposite need to be a good receiver, there is no opposite spikes in the world who can receive serve as good as she is
@@hudiemi NO. China (at least Lang Ping) requires outside striker (主攻) to be a good receiver；it does not require opposite striker (接应) to be a receiver . That's why Gong's position can be replaced by Zhang, but not the other way around. you might get the English-Chinese interpretation wrong.
@@hudiemi that is correct. Even in the 2000s, China's system uses a receiving opposite i.e. zhou suhong, zhang lei, and zheng chunlei. Zhang Changning can be moved to the opposite because she receives. This system provides relief to the open spikers like Zhu Ting, who, although passes, is hidden from the serve receive in certain rotations wherein the OPP, like Gong takes on the role. This is the reason why Liu Yanhan has struggled to make the Olympic roster. She can't pass. Lang Ping puts a premium on passing, including for her opposites, whereas American and European teams usually user their right side hitters for blocking and attacking i.e. Slotjes, Boskovic, Egonu, Drews
