The real Mandarin was responsible for the events of the first Iron Man movie. If you go back and watch the movies, you'll see hints of the real Mandarin influencing various events. For example one of the people looking to buy the shrinking technology in the first Ant Man movie had a Ten Rings tattoo on his neck.
