Such a great discussion! Bret’s best advice during this talk was to beware of the teacher who says there’s only 1 truth. I’ve had readings in placidus, whole and equal and although some major planets change houses the interpretations all provide deep insights to my life. Utterly fascinating how they uncover different things that are true and support me in my growth and self understandings

How true! I have Aries ascendant and also Moon and Mars. But depending on what house system I use, I either have those two planets in Aries 1st house or Aries 12 house. Those can have very different interpretations! But I’m learning that being the complex individual that I am - one shows my natural tendencies and the other my goals and personal achievements. This is very enlightening. Thank you both 🥰

@@monika2231 sure! My natal birth chart for whole signs shows Aries rising, with Moon 4 degrees and Mars 7. If you delve into these interpretations I would be self confident, fiery, a leader, outspoken, impulsive (Which I am) . Other than impulsive I’m none of these. In Placidus it drops my Moon and Mars back in the 12th house, but still in Aries. In fact almost half of Aries is in the 12th. My nature seems more 12th house. Introspective, introverted, rather be behind the scenes, does not like the spotlight.
For me, this means in this lifetime I’m to learn confidence, identity and pushing forward. My grandmother always told me to take up for myself and I’m still learning to do that. So I can see both interpretations are me, it’s just my natural tendencies and comfort zone is the Placidus way .

I am a cartographer....resolution, scale, subject matter.... there a thousand ways to represent a spatial area and the information. Astrology is a map...a representation. How do you want to present the information to what audience.
If houses throw you totally off....there is always vibrational astrology 😉....which is very related to the all different charts used in Vedic....and why I love the system they use ( but not so into the vedic definitions...but that's my thang) .
The beauty of a chart is it is a guide map...

Whole signs are a seeking of symmetry and beauty and order. Reality is reflected better by uneven house systems. APC, a variant of Regiomontanus is deeply insightful into the way things are. Whole signs are a hoped for striving but a kind of fiction perhaps...

This was delightful to listen to. Thank you for your patience with people like me who are slowly learning astrology. I am old and my exposure had been sun signs. To discover how rising signs and other planets were important too was an adjustment. Then came the house systems! Major roadblock!!! Love how Brett, an astronomer and astrologer, explained things. I have a Libra stellium that changes from the 7th house to the 8th house depending on the system. I have intercepted houses in some systems. I was searching one concrete answer and learned in this discussion there isn’t one. There can be a combination. Thank you for this.

Thank you so much Amanda and Gemini Brett for this class. I learned soooo much today and was waiting the whole series for this class really because I had studied and learned my natal chart so much on the placidus house system then one day I printed out a whole house natal chart and my planets had moved houses!! So I was confused. Now I know not to panic. I prefer looking at the actual sky every night and day here in Spain where there is no light pollution and Gemini Brett confirmed that this was really good and OK too. Now I will see the Sun rising, peaking and setting over the mountains here with a totally different perspective in relation to the day and my chart and the houses! In our tiny rural villages here we still have rods on the walls of building to tell the time by. I love the teachings he gave us, especially about watchers and so that was where watches came from for our Northern Hemisphere!! Simply fascinating. OMG there is still so much to learn about astrology but as always Amanda you continue to pull nuggets out of the bag with these videos and I am so grateful for all you give us. x

My first reaction was "is he Gemini?" The second was "oh, he is kinda familiar" - he can't stop moving just like me🤣 I am Gemini Rising too, with stellium in Gemini and have always wondered why I can never sit still, and always multi-tasking!
I relate a lot to what he said. 1. I also have my MC in Aquarius and a large 10th house (I questioned why it is big comparing to others. Now I know.) 2. I echo what he said about not to be fixed in thinking this is the only/right way. There are always other perspectives worth to explore and research. Gemini is always curious 😀 That's how we look younger than our actual age!

TU Gemini Brett & astro hub!!! the detail & keeping it understandable was nail on the head! [me- slightly embarrassed - 7 months late after begging for this extra episode!! lol!!] much #astrology #gratitude ... in hindsight, looking at eclipses Nov 2021 - May 2022 that heavily hit my chart & LO's ... equal house (and often wholesign) tended to show the life area where it was hitting that everyone could see, whereas placidus (which has been my main one up until now) tended to show the area of life it was hitting where I felt it 'emotionally' more so - it was more obscure in a way - like it would be happening in equal 4H affecting my family life (LO) but in placidus it would be hitting my 2H (confidence, self-esteem, feelings of safety/ security - which the level to 'how bad' or 'good' that felt was probably quite private, only known to me exactly (it did 'turn around' half way through the eclipses, but was devastating to begin with re these 2H issues!) ... similarly the other node of eclipses would hit my 10H in equal & w/s (though one of the W/s was 12H) and the spotlight was very much on my role in the world/ reputation/ how I was known at those points in time, but in placidus they would be hitting my 9H - where I was relying very heavily on astrology -one of my belief systems& my belief that it was all for the highest good/ part of our path/ that things would work out ok (in the early ones I was hoping for this - in the latter ones, due to positive developments, I felt as I had confirmation of this! thank you universe xxx) ... hope this helps anyone s an e.g ... going forward I think I'll work with Placidus & equal most & probably still check wholesign as it's easy too (I would use Porphyry as per Michael De Baker's work , if looking up intercepted signs - which equal cannot offer as 'interceptions' don't exist in equal - rather like the honory house system Gemini Brett mentioned - some maybe more suited to 'specific astrological queries) ... will certainly be giving more weight to equal than I did previously (Elsa Elsa & Frank Clifford rating it originally piqued my ears to equal - but i couldn't see the difference to placidus until looking at the eclipses in hindsight - I tried during the 2022 Mars in Gemini never ending retrograde - but I just thought 'well it sort of fits either - I couldn't see the difference with clarity) - it's funny one of the devasting incidents above happened when Pluto entered my 12H in equal - literally on the cusp (though I can trace other more 'emotional' 12H incidents back to when pluto entered my 12H a little earlier in placidus - the pandemic naming one! but that was pretty big for everyone I think!lol!!) Thank you again so much for putting this series on & including a 13th episode!

Thank you for this lovely and illuminating video and discussion! I'm a numerology expert but rather on the beginner side with Astrology. I believe that a great assistance in helping both experienced and beginner astrologers having freedom in using different house systems would be to truly understand what's the unique perspective each house system offers into the person's life. Just like you beautifully described how Whole Sign focuses on the intention of the Soul or Placidus is more immediate, human experience, "feet on the ground" type of perspective. I would love to know about a few other popular ones. Then it makes it easy to alternate between houses in order to glean more particular information we are looking for.

As far as I remember, they always go with whole sign. The only time Placidus have worked better, is with the Lunar returns, that´s when I use Placidus instead. Extremely interesting and helpful conversation. I was born near the Canadian border, thus also have multiple houses (in Placidus) that are either 17 degrees or comprise almost two signs. But the thing I have noticed, is that the larger houses under this system do and have comprised more of my life than the smaller houses have. As is the case with close childhood friends that I grew up with and have seen/studied their natal charts.

In Placidus, it still works but the different NN/SN placement only started speaking to me after my 2nd Saturn Return.
While I use WS, I look at other systems and look at Placidus for interceptions to see if they speak to 🎉me.

I heard someone says choose a house system and stick with it, but I’m of the use a system that works for you as you learn and then explore to see what other systems might work opinion. To say choose one and stick with, I hope this person meant when you’re first learning.

You can see very clearly how the meridian shifts... THEN I changed his birth PLACE to LONGYEARBYEN (super far north) and it is the craziest thing I have ever seen in Placidus! THEN I changed his birth place AND date to August, and Quito, Ecuador. BOOM almost symmetrical horizon and meridian! This is a long comment, but I hope it proves helpful for other people with intercepted signs like mine in their chart!
If this is too long for some people to read, or if I've made it sound complicated, my comment is basically suggesting that, for people with intercepted signs and planet's in their natal charts, I have found that if you listen to different ascendant/rising sign forecasts according to the positions of your natal signs and houses, from the perspective of Placidus and Equal and Whole sign systems, these will push your natal and transiting planets into different natal houses, meaning you can often get a better understanding of current transits to your own natal chart when you incorporate more than one house system.
For me Gemini Brett has just confirmed that what I've been doing for a long time wasn't dumb! There's logic behind it 😊
I'm so relieved and slightly vindicated for having heard this discussion.
I felt I was being a bit dumb when I commented I think in your previous 12th house video, because I had written that I was looking forward to this episode, and that I've been using three house systems as they all seem to work for me.
Now perhaps I read someone's comment in a way they hadn't intended, but someone commented and it like they were being sarcastic, I felt like they were saying that I was perhaps cherry picking the best bits to suit me, that made me feel dumb, but having heard Gemini Brett talking about it I feel much better 😊
It really does work for me.
I have been so confused over the years by other people saying it's this system OR that system that I've not really relaxed into the way I read my own chart.
I kind of wish more people had intercepted signs because until you come across it in your own chart most astrologers brush it off as unimportant, but for me I feel that interception very much in my life, but note that this could be more for people like myself who has their North node in their intercepted sign.
For others they could have a stellium or their sun or moon, or even their Axis inside their natal intercepted signs.
Maybe this is why I sense I can feel it in my life more than others who brush off interceptions.
But there may come a time when an empty intercepted sign has a lot of activity with transits, ingresses etc, then I think understanding interceptions becomes important.
There's VERY little information out there about interceptions (maybe there's a whole book on the subject but I've never seen anything), so the two things I've heard about interceptions is that the intercepted sign and planets have a feeling of being blocked, hard to use the planet's therein, and the other thing I've heard once is that the sign and planet's therein aren't important this lifetime... this boggled my mind, I think in my case at least many people would say the north node and personal planet's are important, I definitely notice I have a passive Mars, I'm not very forceful, that could be the interception or that my Mars's is part of a gentler grand air trine with the addition of sextiles and a quintile, but I feel these and my natal mercury in Leo has taken me a lot of hard work to 'access' them in my life.
It's like 'over a long period of time, you have to work through the intercepted sign by hitching a ride and using the energy of transits passing through that sign' to unlock the gifts through hard work and perseverance!!
I'd love to hear Gemini Brett discuss interceptions, or someone else who uses them like I do.
I started to try learning astrology by myself over a decade ago because I couldn't afford an astrology reading.
But after a couple of years of hearing astrologers online and in books saying this system is the only way, another saying their system is the only way I became so disheartened, disillusioned and lost, perhaps it's my Virgo sun and Capricorn Asc that doing it the 'right' way was so important, and I just gave up!
But I did have stretches of time where I would dive in and out of self learning, I regularly listened to weekly and monthly RUclips astrology forecasts (trying to ignore their opinions of the house systems when the subject came up).
Over time I found that listening to three different Astrology Ascendant forecasts would equally resonate with me.
This I think is because of my intercepted house's, Aquarius is trapped within my 1st house Placidus, with my natal Mars 11° conjunct N. Node 12° to 14° depending on whether I use mean or true node.
So the 7th house then is obviously intercepted too, this is Leo for me and holds my S. Node and my Mercury at 29°.
Even now while writing this I've just had a revelation about my complex long and difficult relationship, because taking three house systems into account offers you so much more information.
And because I have three planets in Virgo including my Pluto/Venus/Sun conjunction, if the transits or aspects involve those, then I pay attention and see if the planet's energies show up in my life and in those instances I might listen to a Virgo ascendant forecast. My daughter has a Virgo ascendant and I found listening to that for her often resonates with me too having three planets in Virgo myself, so that's something to consider too.
And because I have the beginning of Pisces at the end of my first house Placidus, I even listen to Pisces Ascendant readings sometimes when appropriate, doing this I get to hear descriptions of natal planet's and transit's in my natal positions I wouldn't have heard had I only listened to Capricorn and Aquarius ASC forecasts.
I have to always keep in mind that having a 15° Capricorn ASC I'm careful not to listen to the part's of a Pisces forecast that talk about anything happening in their Capricorn 12th house in the 0° to 15° degree range, because for me personally these degrees of Capricorn in my chart are not in the 12th house in any of those three house systems I look at. But it's correct for transits to at least 4 other houses in my chart, and sometimes it pays off if I have natal planet's in those alternate houses.
Because of the current and upcoming planetary ingresses happening for Pisces Ascendant, it's been proving very insightful right now in my life, as Saturn is moving into Pisces, and until Saturn passes beyond my natal 10° Pisces Saturn will likely still be felt in a 1st house way for me.
Same goes for Aquarius with Pluto's imminent ingress, I'll listen to Aquarius ASC forecasts too, because Pluto will continue on in my first house but the information will be different to Pluto's transit through Capricorn as my ASC.
My natal chart is just a bigger jigsaw puzzle compared to people without intercepted signs, I just think perhaps I came into this lifetime with more lessons squeezed into one lifetime!!
I also listen to whole sign as this puts my north node and Mars conjunction in my 2nd house. Whereas Placidus and Equal house keeps my Mars/N.node in my 1st house.
It really has been working for me, although it is challenging to listen to three forecasts, my mind's eye scans my natal chart in my head from three different perspectives!
But if I follow forecasts often enough I have a good idea what planet's are where and which houses are more important personally at that time.
    ❤️

You can have NO IDEA how useful your comment has been for me (and I haven't even listened to Brett yet!).
I too have my North Node in an intercepted house, viz. Cancer in 8. As I read your comment, I already had several AHA!! moments, thank you so much! My Venus and Saturn are also in Cancer, additionally Saturn is unaspected. And the Node is conjunct my Vertex. Suddenly my whole weird life story seems concentrated in Cancer, and illumination about all this has only come to me in my 70's.
And that's all before even mentioning intercepted Capricorn in house 2, which tells a whole story by itself because it ONLY contains my South Node, which is the apex of a yod involving Mars and Pluto, and the South Node is the ONLY thing in the northern hemisphere of my chart...

Loved this...thank you! I've been studying Astrology for about a year now. In Vedic Astrology, I am an Aries Sun/Taurus Rising/Sagittarius Moon and, by Western Astrology, I am a Taurus Sun/Gemini Rising/Capricorn Moon. My Taurus/12th house contains my Sun (opposite Jupiter), Saturn (conjunct my Sun), Mercury and Venus (conjunct)...Mars is in my 1st house (conjunct Venus)...and Mercury, Venus, and Mars are all conjunct my ASC...with Neptune on my DESC (opposite Mercury, Venus, and Mars)...Moon in Capricorn/8th...North Node is at the highest place on my chart in Pisces/10th conjunct Pallas Athena and the star Deneb Adige. 💗💗💗

Yes! And astrologer Wendy Stacy does a BRILLIANT talk on this. She will be an Inner Circle teacher with us this year and I believe the talk she did is still available via ISAR. It's fascinating and a bit troubling that we are watering down the spectrum of expressions by having so many babies born between 8 and 5 on weekdays!

That I can cast a chart without doing the actual math is bliss as I am dyslexic and the math always sucked on paper even if I kind of understood the thing in my head, LOL.

In astrology, the nonagesimal point is the highest point in the ecliptic above the horizon at any given moment, lying exactly 90 degrees from the ascendant. It is different from the Midheaven, which is one of the four primary angles in the horoscope, representing the highest point reached by the Sun in its daily arc, or the southernmost point in the sky.
Typically, the nonagesimal is not necessarily higher in the sky than the Midheaven. The Midheaven, depending on the system of house division used, often marks the highest altitude that any celestial body can reach during the day at a given location, whereas the nonagesimal is specifically the point 90 degrees from the ascendant. The relative positions of these points can vary based on the specific time and location of a chart.

I like placidus, it's what I used when I first started learning and my chart is close enough to equal for it to have ever bothered me. I used to think it was silly to listen to whole sign, my moon is 9 leo and my asc is 13 leo, my mc is 7 taurus..I def do not feel like a 1st house moon person, and my cap sun is part of a 5 planet stellium in the 5th but that's split up in whole sign putting my sun in the 6th. Over 10 years of observing though I can totally see how both can be right or one more right at times. I think it's possible that we just miss other aspects and triggers that make the difference for one or both or multiple. Just like a transit over ones 10th might not seem to have ANY effect of their job but their home life is obviously affected or 7th or 2nd or wherever there's an aspect to.

This clear explanation of house systems (division of local space) is exactly why I was so confused by WSH as my first experience of Astrology. I was born 1 hour and 20 minutes AFTER sunrise - this is a fact of my local space. This means I have a day chart (above the horizon). However, both Whole Sign and the Vehlo-Equal version of house systems convert this to a night chart (below the horizon). WSH completely ignores the reality that I was born during the day and as a consequence, the accuracy of the astrology was really diminished. I would encourage anyone whose birth time is close to sunrise or sunset (and you use WSH) to look at whether or not it reflects when you were actually born.

If the ascendant is your 1st house related to your time of birth, then that must mean all the other houses are related to time, and the sign on your ascendant is related to your environment and all the other signs are environments,

I am super confused… counterclockwise versus clockwise?? I have read to move counterclockwise ?Clockwise makes much more sense, as house progressions descend… 12th house does seem more like it should be first house.. we are birthed fresh in from Source of Oneness trying to make sense of the illusory world and duality… in fact the 1st house would correlate better with self realization. Is this the astronomer’s view? Still confused but like this version better😂thanks for anyone that can bring the clarity 🙏
