I’m Sorry, I Have To Say Goodbye To Carshield

- Hey good people,
One of the most annoying things about working in the auto repair industry is having people try to negotiate your worth to fit their affordability. I get why people do it. Everyone has bills and families to take care of and they try to do the best they can to save where they can. However, I never understand why corporations, warranty and insurance companies do that. Cutting corners and trying to negotiate with the working man is not right. I hate to do it, but I'm tired of going in circles with that company.
I see why most shops don't accept them.
What are you guys' experience with Car Shield? Leave your comments below, I love hearing from you.

CarShield is famous for being a scam. I'm surprised anyone accepts doing work for them. To begin with, the defective parts epidemic means being very careful what parts you use. What do you do when a customer insists on only using OEM new parts or if not available as OEM, NAPA? Cutting corners on parts means repairs don't last.
I was really doing it for the people that have it, definitely not for the money. I hate turning them away but I have to now.
yes I have seen more defective parts lately, NAPA is no good anymore, they were sold to an investor group in Viet Nam, all the good stuff they had is gone, I get parts from Orielly and Wholesale warehouses
@JimSix-jo6hf Yup you're correct, they don't call it Crapa for no reason.
My shop always tries to stick with OEM as much as possible. Worldpac, XL parts and orielly pretty much only accepted aftermarket for us.😊
Napa is garbage I've had better luck with the AutoZone stuff when customers can't afford the OEM parts.
@@AlexTheCarDoctor I remember in one of your videos you were working on a RAM 1500 with the cam and lifters issue that was a car shield claim. You had they wanted oil samples and just replace one lifter when you told them it was better to replace all of them since the cam was damaged. I was going to consider them but my dad told me don't do it because they are a scam. After hearing it from you and they way you broke it down, my dad was right
But ice tee is saying Car shield is the best thing out there 🤣🤣🤣
And Tom Sellek is selling old people a reverse mortgage.. it's like they're only doing it to make money.

Your wife should cut up that old broken-down engine hoist. Don't forget you have kids to go home to. You're risking serious injury, especially since your wife bought you a new engine hoist!
Put that in front 😁
Car warranties are a scam, my shop declines people trying to get a repair with those companies as well. IF (and thats a BIG if) they're actually on board with repairing a vehicle, they dont want to pay full shop labor rate and try to dictate parts quality and price. Plus the service writer deals with immense hold times while trying to make contact via phone. All these add up to he a huge waste, everyone loses in these situations.
you got it right, just a scam last time I dealt with one I remember telling the guy THIS IS NOT A YARDSALE, it is a waste of time to even talk to these guys
Add Endurance to the list also.
Rockauto sells oem parts as well as cheap parts. They aren't Amazon that sells mostly cheap chinese parts and counterfeit parts.
Yeah but shipping parts back and cores are a pita.
Rockauto is great but if you have a warranty problem you have to box it up, print a label, and wait, customers are not going to wait for that, better to get parts from Orielly for customer cars, but my own projects have lots of Rockauto parts on them
@@JimSix-jo6hf Warranty of Rockauto, request warranty online, at the same time order new part and pay for it, get a label and send old part back. You get your $ back in under a week.
I worked at a United Auto Supply warehouse Rock auto shared a space with them they all good Chinese parts tbh
I can't stand dealing with car shield. Took them 3mos to approve a 13k ticket. I always tell them I don't accept outside parts. Also a .3 diag. Ridiculous
Blinker fluid lol. Must be for BMWs.
I’ve been an HVAC service tech for 25 years and much like with car shield they Also have a division that does home warranties AC systems washers dryers stoves fridges the structure itself, but they always find some reason not to pay or pay such a low amount that it’s really not economically viable for the contractor to do the job and a lot of times they want to use used parts And I’m not even talking about refurbished used I tell customers that they’re better off saving that monthly premium in a bank account because most of the time even with the warranty, they still come out of pocket a substantial amount the only warranties that are actually worth it are manufacturers warranties and even those are becoming problematic.
All the radio hosts push that car shield crap, screw them I rather just keep a little $$ saved up for repairs
Our shop doesn't accept any warranty company jobs. I don't think the car lot side even sells aftermarket warranties. Customers here want the lowest used car price, and aftermarket warranty companies don't pay off. For what they charge, you can purchase a good used engine or transmission straight out, on most cars. Got a 5.3 the other day, looks great $900. That's shop cost but those warranty companies are charging people $1400 to $2000 added to the price of the car.
I think I'm in the majority here, aftermarket warranty companies are a ripoff. They think they can pay the shop half the labor time like this is a Ford dealership, they crazy.
O'Reilly Auto parts wanted close to a $100 for a Chevy turn signal switch, I went through the Dealer and got the part for $60. Quick tip, you do not have to remove the airbag when you are just changing the turn signal switch. Just leave the car running, so you can maneuver the steering wheel back and forth to remove the screws to the steering panel. Note, if you turn the steering wheel and hear a clicking sound from the turn signal switch, that means it is good news. The actual part in the steering wheel column is working and communicating with the turn signal switch, but the switch is broken.
Retail stores always markup prices. I only go to there if I need a part right now otherwise I order from Rock Auto
Orielly seems to go after the pro guys, yes the retail prices are high there but retail customers take more time and have more returns and warranties, so the pro shops on the first call program can look up the part themselves and get that $100 part for $40
3:30 I'd be twenty feet away with a phone to tell the first responders how many mechanics still had a pulse.
Great video.
14:37 nice, blinker fluid lol
Call wait on hold for 30 minutes to not to get transferred to someone else and wait 30 minutes.. then tear down to fault, send an inspector out then tear down some more… I quit them 8 years ago..
I refuse all after market warranty companies at my shop, just not doing it sorry.
The crv is probably the door handle switch pretty common on those
Yup. My mom's 2013 CRV had this exact battery draining issue and it was deduced down to the Driver's side door handle assembly. Swapped in a used one from the junkyard. Bingo! No more battery drain. 😎👌
why didn't use the car lift over top chained and then lift
Dear Dr. & Mrs. Car Doctor.,
I am a diligent subscriber and try to watch everything you upload. You are my official auto technician except everything that's wrong with my vehicles you don't fix. 🥴
Where do I go when you turn me away? Who can I trust other you? I have a problem with my immobilizer. It has stopped recognizing the key. I will never go back to VW in Union City and don't advise anyone else to either. 😡😤
😞 I feel so bad. But I do have a mobile key guy who is good at that 👀
Alex is right, find a good locksmith, they are way better than a car dealer, they can make and program a key in just a few minutes
I had Car Shield for my 2013 F150. As the warranty was nearing its expiration, I carefully reviewed the coverage to ensure I could get several major parts replaced. I managed to have the radiator, transmission, and a few other smaller items replaced. However, I wouldn’t purchase their service again due to the increase in their prices.
nick here watching from PNW WA STATE im a mobile mechanic and you sir are a absolute hero. i love watching your videos i just started trying to do videos on my youtube channel, i gotta learn how to talk when the camera is on lol. love your videos tho MR AND MS CAR DR.. YOU ARE KILLIN IT 🙃
I had Car Shield a few years ago for my first KIA and they do not cover those little repairs that really matter. I spoke to my mechanic in Austell and asked him if they used Car Shield and he said he usually doesn't because they will not pay the industry standard hourly mechanic rate. I had an issue repaired for which I had to pay for and if the issue returned and was found to be covered by them, they would not pay it. Car Shield and Endurance put forth this great marketing plan; however, when you have an issue, they REALLY don't want to pay for it. You may as well take your car to the dealership, have the issue diagnosed and then have a reputable mechanic do the repairs because the dealership is going to charge you and arm and a leg as well as for your first born.
I would never buy anything from rock auto nothing. I tried to return apart that they sent to me and it was the wrong part and they tell me they can’t accept it back.
Hate that that happened to you. I personally ONLY buy my auto parts from Rock Auto. Good prices and quality, and everything works as it should. I personally haven’t had to return anything to them as of yet so can’t speak on that topic like you did but for me they are a definite go to
Skill issue
@@gmo4719 That's a bummer. I returned a set of motor mounts I got from them, as I no longer needed them (junked the car) and they took them back, no problem. I just had to let them take $7 out of my refund for shipping. But it was a heavy box.
Battery drain is actually pretty easy to chase down if you don't mind charging customer for diag time. Make sure they can pay. Take the battery loose. Put an amp meter between the battery and the cable. See how many amps the car is pulling just sitting there, off, nothing turned on. If excessive, like 5 amps, pull fuses till drain goes away. Headlights will pull about 10 amps and run a battery down over a few hours or so, so that is a guideline. 5 amps is like 1 headlight, take several hours to wipe out battery. If car isn't pulling any real current might be a funny battery. Seen that before.
Bill says “Feels like it was just yesterday when I was petting Hemi and admiring the boat.”
This is going to sound weird but on them power steering pumps I had got 4 of them in a row from napa and all leaked before they left my shop finally I put brake fluid in the last one and that fixed it. Ran it for 3000 miles then put power steering fluid in .
NAPA has some crap these days, best power steering seals are Everco my company Jims power steering in Akron has rebuilt over 50,000 rack and pinions and pumps with less than 1% warranty returns, the higher cost of the best seals and parts is a lot less than dealing with warrantys
@@JimSix-jo6hf true but I sold out in 2016 after opening in 1980 the people were getting to want more for less and want it now
I would of drive it under the lift arm and used that haha. Raise lift to max drive boat under, lower lift arm, attach chain, raise it up? Not being a smart ass it prolly wouldn’t work just an idea I had lol
Man I welcome all ideas 😂 you never know what works until you try it lol
Alex, I run my own shop and I have been doing the same thing, unfortunately declining jobs and giving the bad news we do not enjoy as shop owners, lets alone techs, we enjoy fixing things, that’s why we do what we do.
Everything on TV is bs
They have places here in Maine that do nothing but diagnose electrical problems. It can be costly but you know it will be right.
On those infiniti transmissions, specifically the 7 speeds; if a P0720 (output shaft speed) is present in combination with a P0500 (vehicle speed sensor); the TCM needs replaced. If just 1 id present, can usually get away with the 1 fix. When both are present, there's a failure inside the TCM. Looking abt $1900 for infiniti to do it.
The Infiniti G35,37 & Nissan 350-370z are known to burn oil. I had a 370z and it did burn a solid amount of oil until I decided to upgrade the cooling system then it was okay. Nissan says it’s normal for it to burn oil but I don’t see nothing normal about that.
My 2013 Terrain 2.4l (2017 engine) is having similar issues. I have to put oil in it damn near everyday. If I punch the gas too hard, especially from idle, white smoke blowing everywhere from the tailpipe. At first I thought it was the residue from the CRC intake valve cleaner and Seafoam, but I never thought about the valve seals.
Most likely, a clogged pcv system. They were so bad for it there was a recall and some states had class action lawsuits
@@SXSPRIME I removed the intake manifold and cleaned out the PCV hole and sprayed carb/intake cleaner through the little hole to make sure none of the vents were clogged and I installed an oil catch can. still drinks oil.
And they also want you to use refurbs parts.
Getting that boat engine out was nerve wracking lol.
that was a work of art or in this case a work of Alex, hey it worked that is all that matters LOL
Maybe the battery isn’t holding charge
It's improvising, every Technician needs to be able to do it or Work harder. (Engine hoist).
I been wanting a stern drive boat... But then I see this... I think I'll stick to outboards😅
And when I get some real money, I’m headed that way too
Hint: when replacing that engine use a skid steer. It’s much easier.
Carshield will always find an excuse to reject your claims even if you keep up with regular maintenance and the component affected has nothing to do with engine service intervals.
is that a Harley Davidson Ford F-150 back there 👀
What!!! y’all got blinker fluid lmao
I wonder if Chris fix watched this
Gatorade Time 😆👍🏼 FYI Dollar general has the 28oz for a limited time 3 for $4bucks
100% correct about electrical you will marry the car the persons sister and be apart of the family at thanksgiving 🤣
That honda it's the door handles.
Alex you might think about trying to find a guy that is a specialist in electrical diagnostics. to add to the team. probably will be hard to find a competent diagnostician these days however.
Alex I’m sorry to bother you but I just traded in my Subaru cross trek 2018 for a Chevy traverse 2019. My family is growing and I need something bigger while keeping my monthly bill he same. I put $1000 down. Did I make a big mistake? Is they’re any advice you can offer? With the price of Toyotas and minivans this seemed to be all I could afford for the growing family.
Can you just put us something to turn off the vehicle a switch but he's not using it so it doesn't drain
They’re the worst anyways!
6:50 You should make people replace the hood shocks.
12:00 356k miles and people say Nissan are not good cars.
It's bcs some nissans models are famous for differential & trans issues.
Yall got that blinker fluid I see 😂
Who puts their CRV in Econ, it's already slow and gets good gas milage lol
White smoke is coolant not oil blue smoke is oil
19:50 for the Car Shield stuff.
Also, Rock Auto is good. Not sure why RA was named negatively. They are great. But yeah, Car Shield sucks from everything I’ve heard.
I like Rock Auto. Especially for hard to find parts. I just don’t use them for the customers at my shop.
RockAuto is the absolute
Greatest especially for rural
Canada. Gives you economy
Options to OEM/Premium options shipped to your door significantly cheaper than parts store (non-shop cost). Local parts store MOOG sway bar link for my fusion $75CAD…Rock Auto $25.
Thanks for giving this info cause I almost went with them I’m glad I didn’t thanks Alex
that lift is scary AF😂😂
Man, i can't believe he blew his engine on that boat, haha
My boy got them waves 🌊
My car factory warranty almost up what's the best warranty company do you recommend??
None, just save the money in a emergency savings account
Did one repair through them and what an absolute nightmare it was. Cam and lifters in a gm5.3. Cam was destroyed i told them it needed an engine or this one fully rebuilt. I was told no just cam and lifters and they wanted me to cover any waranty. Fuck you that engine is full of metal
blinker fluid on tap!!
Car shield is trash I have witnessed at my job how they deny claims they denied this one lady because she heard a noise before her policy was active
i had carshield and they are a complete rip off they dont pay for shit they pick and choose what to cover leaving you with a list of repairs and alot of money you gotta pay its best honestly to just save money for auto expenses and be done with it or buy your own parts replace it yourself fr lol and as rock auto as a diy dude i do most the repairs myself and have zero issues with them best company for parts fr💯

Would you say Carshield is bad as a consumer aswell? Have had them for a few months but havent had to use them yet, should I just cancel now?
I’d say get a full understanding of what’s covered and what’s not, also ask what parts are they authorizing or sending in because they will send a part from Amazon
keep in mind it doesnt matter what insurance you have if the shops around you don't accept it
@@hundredlives3910 this is true… maybe some of us shops NOT accepting carshield could make them change their practices. Wishful thinking tho
CANCEL CANCEL AND CANCEL ❌❌❌
yes cancel as soon as you can, put that money into maintaining your car then you will have very few repairs, all you will get from these crooks is cheap amazon parts or used parts that will not last long, it is a scam, how do you think they pay for all that advertising?
What extended warranty company do you recommend
General
Fidelity warranty, also good for Roth IRA and more
None of them. Save your money for future repairs.
You say a Nissan titan is a solid truck...but what about a Ram 1500 Hemi?
The hemi’s are fine. You may get the Hemi Tick though.
@@AlexTheCarDoctor is that costly to fix ?
Stick with 99 to 06 GMT800's. This entails silverados, suburbans and tahoes or anything equivalent under the GMC or cadillac badges of that same era. You don't want a hemi.
The hemi tick is usually caused by leaking exhaust manifolds. My shop replaces the manifolds, gaskets and all related hardware. Ballpark about $1000 for the repair, parts and labor. They also can make a ticking sound in the valvetrain as well though. And that repair is definitely not cheap, several $1000s.
