You most likely will NOT find a O.E.M. service/repair manual for any new car nowadays. I bought the service manuals (4) for my 2011 Honda CRV (when new) because I do my own repairs. Those Chilton & Haynes manuals may no longer be in print form in a few years. You will soon have to get online service data to get wiring diagrams, etc.
Yeah I was gonna say the same. Seems like the auto repair world was a better place when you could get the manuals for your car. Now their even making it harder to change your own brakes or check the transmission fluid on these newer cars 😒
if i cant find a haynes or chiltons book for it, i wont buy it. nothing wrong with a 88 honda. the newest vehicle i own is my 04 ram 2500 and to be truthful, i dont ever want something new. the wife has a '12 escape and the best thing...theyre all paid for and running great because a guy can still work on them without "needing" a scan tool. i got my code reader and the interwebs and thats gotten me by just fine. love the channel, by the way. @@AlexTheCarDoctor
Gud catch bruh. I was definitely unaware of that fuse bank on the positive terminal circuit. Y'all a funny couple with a great vibe. Don't let the world ever step into y'alls living happy and prosperous.
Coming from a vet, to a greenhand; never recommended a neverstart battery to your customers. There are only 3 companies in the world that actually manufacture new batteries, neverstart, superstart, duralast, and a couple other brands; are all made by the same manufacturer, and are all crap. Get an interstate, or factory replacement. Interstate, and all the manu's, are built by same company. Stick with the higher priced batteries, for higher quality. And always do your research.

I went through the same thing with my 09 Cadillac cts-v, bought a new battery and went through two alternators because the shop said the alternators were the problem, I found out myself theres a wire that went from the alternator starter battery has a fuse on a 200 fuse the wire was hitting my headers and arcing and blew the fuse the fuse is riveted shut so you are forced to buy the whole new I got tired of spending momey so I just cut the fused out and a new fuse holder and put a 250 AMP fuse in it and rerouted the wire awy from the haeders. I only spent $10.00 to fix it myself, I told the shope and they gave half my money and now I have a brand new extra alternator sitting in my garage $380.00. They never knew to check out the wire. I wish you made this video last summer lol. But thanks for your help and the time you put in to making them...
That was a smart decision to use a bystander fuse as a test, to prevent your brand new fuse from blowing as a result of a dead short. $140 for the entire fuse bank is an irritating design. Old style fusible links were a lot cheaper than that.
Those lithium ion jump boxes are one of the best inventions for car owners ever. Incredible how small they are and how well they work. Most of the time they out perform jump starts!
Nice job, Doctor! No tick, that's good. 👌 It was 36 below with 29 mph wind and minus 13 in northwestern Minnesota this morning. 😢Old fat Dutchman loves ya!
At long as using a lower rated fuse, zero issues with testing. Never use a higher rated fuse when troubleshooting…if there is an amp draw issue or dead short, it will melt wires and potential fire. Fuses are sized to protect the wires.
LoL 🤣😆 Putting the engine back in my '03 Forester. Was testing without the alternator connected. Went to hook up the alternator and snap, crackle, Pop. There went the main fuse!! Working tired!
Had this issue twice, main cause was the MOPAR main big battery failing internally.. I have a 2017 WK2… V6 The batter junction fuse box on the positive terminal blew a fuse.. Only solution is to replace box and battery. And all is great, dropped in two AGM batteries VARTA Three years and running strong 💪🏻
I had a 2018 journey come in a few weeks ago, same symptom... no power. Noticed the ignition switch wasn't lighting up (the off, acc, run). Pulled switch out and found power coming from the underhood fuse box. Checked fuse, and it was good. Pulled up the fuse box to start checking for an open wire and found about 9 wires chewed by a rat. One of them being the power supply to the ignition switch. Soldered back and repaired all damaged wiring, and it was good to go.
Bought my '00 Grand Cherokee few years ago. Cheap. Was having charging issues and battery draining issues. They already threw an alternator at it. The real deal was the plug for the small wires was loose. Tighten them up, solved. The majority of the battery draw was the transistor/relay for the electric fan. Unplug the fan. It also has a mechanical fan which is cooling fine. It still has a battery draw issue. Leave it for 4-7 days and it'll be dead. Don't know what's up. I hooked up a trickle charger. No issues.
I can almost guarantee those studs on that aux batt hit the seat frame and shorted it out. I've been doing this 16 years and I've never seen a main big fuse blow from an alternator wire.
Awesome repair doc. Man ppl buy the cheapest part for their vehicles, and go cheaper on repair. But be walking around with Jordan's on 🙄 or $200+ pair of shoes.
@BlueDinnie True. I just be like, why go cheap on your car. That's one of your most expensive investments. Not to mention the one that gets you to and from the 💰.
@AlexTheCarDoctor man I see cars totaled all the time. Look at the tires, and they're bald. I was on a call once. BMW slammed again the Jersey barrier, spins out, and smashes rear in the pouring rain. He said idk what happened. I looked at the tires, and they were bald. I look at him and said it's those non approved DOT slicks you have on it. He didn't think it was funny.
Thanks. I’m glad you’re learning. I promise that’s the only reason I do RUclips. The bad mechanic might hate me but they gone learn something if they watch me too! 👨🏽🔧
Yeah, the stupid plastic oil filter adapter housing... it really isn't the plastic that is the problem, it is the tiny gaskets that only last about 80K to 90K miles. But you know I'll still be replacing the plastic ones with the metal housings. I get the Dorman kit that comes with all the intake gaskets, too. Once it is metal all you should ever need the next time it leaks is the gasket kit for the intake and oil filter adapter housing and the gaskets are cheap, the labor is not. And the second time around, at about that mileage you are probably going to end up doing the valve cover gaskets as well, that is if the vehicle makes it to that mileage.
Happened to me was working on my car on a Sunday and crossed mounted the terminals blew the main fuze.Soldered it back until the dealership had the part in stock then replaced it

question you said at the start she had draining did u happen to check battery draw after fuse was replaced i just dont see a fuse causing that issue so i am asking i figured someone crossed the terminals and it blew and only being one issue?
I assume what happened, the original batteries were old and worn out, causing it to go dead every morning or so, she tried replacing the batteries, arcing something out and blowing the main fuse, and after that she started throwing parts at it. so I did not find it necessary to do a battery draw test. my assumptions was correct. She haven’t been back.

Secondary battery for the electric water pump, electric oil pump, hydraulic pump(transmission/brakes)….because this thing has auto stop. It’s one of the worst things the automotive industry ever did.
Before i watch im gonna guess the TIPM or the battery cover has too much dust as has parasitic drain now or the stop start little battery is draining the main battery.
If they changed the alternator and didn't disconnect the battery what are the odds they touched the ground when they disconnected the battery from the alternator?
Whoever worked on the car before you gets a 'B' for effort & a 'D" for testing & execution. With newer cars you cannot afford a "Oops". That cheap, no-name alternator will cost them more in the long run when someone has to replace it sooner than later. It makes for more business for you!
