I have learned German from RUclips by watching actual German docus and Tagesschau. Not by watching videos how to learn languages. Also - translating subtitles on-the-fly is one of the best inventions ever. I was so happy when it finally came to mobile as well.
@@JessePierce-m7r It's very simple - on any video with subtitles go to Settings -> Subtitles -> Auto-translate and select the language. That's it :) but the level up is Language Reactor browser extension, which allows you to have subtitles in two languages at once with a lot of other helpful options as well.
Great comment there. I think so often people who have learned to do something well expect others to copy their approach because it worked for them and therefor it has to work for everyone else. Nonsense. We are all unique individuals. You can recommand strategies but please don't force them on me or talk down to me. We long for others to enjoy what we enjoy and for people to listen to our advices. You cannot force things on people unfortunately. They either accept your advice and implement it into their life or they don't. Of course simplifying our complex world will let you reach a larger number of people. They speak in general terms instead of differentiating between different types of people. Big corporations know there is a market, so we get gamefied language learning apps.
I watch polyglots videos ro motivate myself ngl. Its not my goal ro be polyglit, jsut learn italian, but it motivates me when nothing else motivates my depressed aa
I agree! I've gotten a lot of inspiration and helpful strategies from watching videos by polyglots (true polyglots, that is). I somehow stumbled early on to channels like the Polyglot Conference and Polyglot Gathering, and I learned a TON from them. But, of course, there are some videos and channels that are not very helpful, and sometimes even the most helpful polyglot influencers can get a bit dogmatic about their approach (and I'm not afraid to comment on those videos).
Love your take and the mental health behind all our language journeys, that all need to be thoroughly adjusted and personalized for each of us. Others' experience is helpful, but they're not you. Well said!
Thank you for plain sense as in common sense.. If common sense is common, then why is there so little of it? Fluency is not a sprint, it is a marathon. Very true what you said, that finding the right strategy is a skill and it is well worth creating. For example I speak 3 languages and into my fourth,. But I speak Pidgin in 3 other languages. German Pidgin is speaking Dutch with German chucked in as I progress. it really sounds like Pidgin Plattdeutsch, but I find it much more productive than learning German case structure in the conventional way. Some day I might actually speak German.
Sorry but it seems to me that you just demonstrated how RUclips videos about language learning are sometimes a waste of time. This was. 10 minutes for a couple of good points and a lot of rambling. I have found many very bad videos for learning languages, but eventually found some good ones. You are right about the 'famous' apps and YT sites being mostly boring and not helpful. What I have found most useful is sights that teach using the target language - at any level. It's a tough thing to do well, but those that do are what have worked for me.
I mean, I made this video for new language learners who don't know these things. If you already know all of this, of course it'll be boring for you. I'm glad you've found an approach that works well for you! Again, not who this video is for...I'm talking to those who haven't found an approach they like
Sorry if my comment was bit harsh. It just seemed a bit roundabout in making the points. I would also suggest to learners that good strategies not only depend on personal learning style but also how different the target language is from English. I’m just trying Spanish for the first time. Learning it is such a different experience than my years improving my Japanese skills. @@MultilingualMastery
@@kitsburrard5530 no worries :) yes of course, different language families is one of the many many many many different aspects of language learning. It's literally impossible to include every single variable in a RUclips video lol

No surprise. The mainstream will always be what it always was. The most successful videos won't be about teaching hard facts and knowledge and what reality is like. Entertainment is about illusions. Movie magic. Nobody talks like that, nobody can be that awesome and it's all about presenting a great result without really showing the work behind it. Exceptions confirm the rule. Of course "clever" people will "hijack" any topic like e.g. language learning and make an entertaining but ultimately not very educational and realistic video to garther views. Since the media market became flooded with endless waves of content, it gets harder to find the quality content you aim for instead of these mindless "can I learn a language in 7 days" challenges. We all know what kind of content draws in the bigger crowds and that other media creators will copy what is already successful. Many try to tell you that they know the best language learning method and why duolingo stinks. Still I love youtube for language learning but I also attend language courses. 🤗
How long can it take approximately for me learn Spanish as an English speaker if I dedicate 8 hours to it every day? Is it even a good strategy? Personally for me it’s 100% possible to put in even 10 hours every single day.
I mean, DO you spend 10 hours learning a language everyday consistently, or are you just thinking of every conceivable second in your life that you can replace with a language learning activity?
@@KingAbhishek98 gotcha. My advice is to lower your expectations. You're on the road to burnout before you've even started! Instead of focusing on how many hours you can spend and how long it'll take, think about which skills you want to build and which approaches you'll actually enjoy
@Alesti5how to do that ? I’ve been learning English 2 years now and I’m still stuck in B1 level. I still can’t remove English subtitles when I watch a series because I want to know every single words. I immerse myself everyday every activities I do are in English. I don’t really read because I judge that I read enough with subtitles. I don’t know 🤷🏻♀️ where I should ahead to. 😭 I probably really need a really good coach to guide me .
