LOL QUIT FREAKING OUT ABOUT ACCIDENTALLY COPYING! This video is more catered to people who have been doing it on purpose or planning to. Accidents are very rare, there are only so many poses and designs and things, and 90% of the time the other party is totally cool with it. Other times people are too senaitive and blow it crazy out of proportion when their original doesn't look like the accused piece at all, and are quickly told to shut their face. Just don't copy someone on purpose and you'll be totally fine :) Now get out there and make some art!
Another thing to point out is when you're referencing or copying another persons artwork you are also copying their flaws or errors. Which is why photo reference is better in the end
Thank you! I've been drawing since Highschool (2010), but I've been on and off with it between late 2013 to mid 2016. It was only around late 2016 to present day where I took it a lot more seriously because there's a vast amount of subjects and disciplines to understand :D
Someone had a candy corn bat and were telling a 14 year old fur that she stole her character because it also was a candy corn bat, and was raging with how it was stolen because they both had a white face and underbelly and small similarities and the young fur changed her character quite a lot but the other person was still angry because it had a white face and underbelly. She was also angry because the person the young fur commissioned was given a picture of the other artists candy corn bat as inspiration but she took it as theft and I felt really bad for the kid
Ah I remember when I was a young little furry and stole art. This was around 5 years ago when i didn't understand what art theft was. I had an artist come and message me about one of their art pieces I stole, and they asked me to take it down. Of course, I listened and took it down, and realized "Oh sh*t this is bad, I better stop. I wouldn't want my art stolen." PLEASE, people, i KNOW that drawing is not easy. It takes years of practice. If you don't want to/can't draw your OWN art, get a commission. Yes, money-spending, ew, I know. But stealing is such a no-no! I promise that if you practice drawing, you WILL get better. 100%, you will get better if you practice. Don't be that furry that just doesn't understand that art theft is bad; there's so many ways around that so you aren't in the red-zone :)
What EXACTLY has happened, can you please be more specific? Did you just download and claim the art as yours? Or you were trying to draw and had your art turned out quite similar? Or you had your character/art inspired by others? Because when we just say "art theft", we simply cannot get any details right about what has exactly been happening then. "Art theft" is just an umbrella term for any activities that includes unauthorized art activity. Also, the "art theft" in literal sense, it's when you rob a museum.
Rhi You dumbass, nearly the whole internet has google images for profile pictures. Are they claiming the art? No, so they aren't stealing now shut up thinking you know everything; people like you are a disgrace to the fandom.
People who do trace tick me off very very much. Honestly I find it completely pointless, not to mention how rude and disrespectful it is. For one people will instantly find out and then they'll probably come knocking at your door with a bus waiting to run you over. Two, it is technically plagiarism and if people get mad enough and some of the "wrong people" get involved and you're at least 17 or 18, you can get arrested for it. Three, as already said, it's actually probably over the label of rude. Many of the artists out there have worked their tail ends off to be where they are now, and to basically be too lazy or stubborn to work your way to that title and to think it's alright to claim someone's art let alone someone's character is a complete jerk wad type move. Sure, being a good artist takes time and we can't all be perfect with patience to get there, but stealing/tracing/copying doesn't get you any closer. You should never, EVER copy/trace or use someone's art/character(s) without their permission. Copying someone's Fursona/OC would technically be like copying their own child which would be very wrong and get you beat up on a curb. NEVER STEAL PEOPLE'S CHILDREN WICH INCLUDES THEIR CHARACTERS >:/
*A VERY IMPORTANT THING ABOUT REFFING PHOTOS:* IT CAN STILL BE ILLEGAL. you need to check the COPYRIGHT on the photo. if you go to the source website and it says "buy this photo for this amount", DON'T REF IT (unless you bought it that's probs ok) there are good places for free photos specifically for..whatever you want, including referencing! pixabay is my favorite, i think it was called. usage rights>labelled for reuse with modification.*
Ruby Dragon - this is all kinds of wrong. There is nothing wrong with referencing a work. So long as youre not copying or tracing. theres nothing wrong with referencing.
So, I have a true story. I was a part of an Amino community called Furry Families for a while, it was an ok amino, there were a few nice people and stuff. Then I made an informational post on what is defined as stealing artwork. A few members got on my case about this, one of them even saying that just because I'm a good artist doesn't mean I can tell others to be. I absolutely didn't do that at all, I only made an informational post because I found that the majority of people on that Amino had artwork of Furries from Google images. The post mentioned how taking a picture that looks like your character off of Google isn't okay because the art that the actual commissioner paid for was quite expensive, and taking a masterpiece off of Google is taking business away from the artist. A lot of the members were saying that they never said that they made it, therefore it isn't stealing. I don't believe that any of those young furries knew that what they were doing was wrong because they thought that as long as they give the artist credit, they can use anything as their profile picture. From my understanding, taking any digital art off of Google is theft because the commissioner paid a lot of money for it. Am I incorrect? They actually banned me from that Amino for standing up to this ordeal, I just need to know if I was in the wrong.
Note Block Fur right! I have a friend like that too, I love them and they're a super sweet person but I don't think they understand? Like some artists rely financially on their artwork!
I take down pictures for references which is also how I understand their style and artstyle and I slowly drew the base and then drew the baselines and so on it goes
I once discovered a person who traced art. She didn't even make it look real, she took the actual image and just added a completely differnet art style over it, so the image doesn't even look equal, and she claimed she made it all by herself. The most ironic thing about it is she told people not to trace or steal images as it was bad.
I use ref sheets quite often, but when I draw something with one, I adjust it to my own style. I only use them for faces, hair and anatomy. Occasionally I'll use colour pallettes as well, especially for a challenge to make an oc out of one.
I will be honest that I used to heavily reference an artist I like but I did it at home and it was never posted on the internet. I was starting and now I have found my style. The artist was Ava G animations and I thank her but now I have my own style.
Pocari I need your help for this problem because I really don't know what to do:( so when I just joined the Fandom I think I was about 11 or 12 I made character that Is A hybrid of a wolf and Hyena and I used some natural patterns like the dark brown face of the hyena ok and I didn't know about character called Ramiel and then I found out about them in facebook so I friended them and I was a little bit nervous so I didn't talk to them and then I posted about if I look like them and people told me that I don't then someone found out about it and told Ramiel and then they blocked me so now I can't talk to them what should I do????????
If ramiel just straight up blocked you without discussing, that was very immature of them. See if you can find a friend of theirs who can ask them about it for you
This is just me, and I might be unusually tough on people, but if somebody were to outright block me without trying to resolve their problem with me, I'd be inclined let them stew in their own stubbornness. However, you could try contacting them a different way, such as through another account or website, then explain to them that you are willing to resolve the issue, and see where it goes from there. If they ignore you again, the problem rests in their own hands, and they can deal with it when they decide to humble themselves.
i actually encountered Accidentally desame fursona. almost XD His name is Physics. we are both Yellow with white and skyblue, but the difference is he have black spots on his body, and brown hair :3 and now we call ourselves twins XD
Awww that's nice that you reacted to it nicely. I know some fursuiters which are twins. twitter.com/SnoFlu and twitter.com/SnowSpottycats (both are my friends) Burumun and Elecami FleurDiLis from Belgium (my ex-friend) and one girl The list could go on... Even my friend's fursona and one of my OC's, are similar in the way they are black kitties with a straight bangs and long hair. By the way there is probably one Japanese guy who looks similar to you. Don't know who though... Give him a hug!
Omg I was literally watching this video whenever I found out that someone had been stealing art and designs from my friends and I and posting them as adoptables on furry amino! Don't usually comment on youtube but the irony of the whole thing has me shook.
I was so bad when I was getting into the fandom. I would never steal art but I used to trace stuff all the time, such a bad 12 year old. Good video though, people really need to get this message!
actually your learning while tracing. If you trace a lot, then you learn your own style and it helps you understand how to do something. But don't post it online!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That doesn't really make sense. If you trace then your only learning how to draw other peoples art and style, where if you where drawing from scratch you learn to improve and be unique instead of just being a copy.
LunaticLeopard yes, I agree. Tracing can really help someone who’s just starting out. However, if you’re an experienced artist, you shouldn’t be tracing. Like come on.
I've traced a LOT but I know not to post it online. I did once share it to my online friend but I did say that I traced it and not to share it anywhere because that would say I made it.
Hermit Mochi, I think it’s ok to post what you’ve been working on. So long as you say that you copied it and that it’s not your original work, it should be fine. Be sure to cite the original. Lots and lots of artists copy paintings in museums to learn how to draw. You’re not passing it off as your original idea, you’re just learning and learning and improving a skill should always be encouraged.
These are the reasons why I never post ANY art I make it feels like, even though I draw from scratch and very rarely use any sort of reference (most of which are just textures and shading examples :ll), I'll somehow get in trouble cause it's similar to someone else's art =~= It's a scary place, the art community :c
HHHHHNNNNNNGGGGH YOUR FURSUIT IS CUTE AND JIGGLY I COULD DIEEEE AAAAA ❤❤❤ Anyway, great video, Pocari! I myself have traced and stolen art back on my early years in the fandom, but I've learnt how damaging this is to both artists *and* other furs, and now I do everything I can to educate younger furs on the subject :)
Uhm I've traced art when i was younger. And i have created my own style and learned things well So like Yeah Uhm Dont hurt me I never put the traces up anywhere i think
This is the same for me, but I did mostly ponies. XD I'm not really a furry. My friend recommended this for me. Anyways, I stopped tracing because I wanted to learn and make my own style. So yeah. :3
(YES I KNOW IM LATE!!) it’s okay to be heavily inspired!! But like ya don’t trace, and tbh I didn’t learn from tracing, I learned from RUclips, inspiration, and a LOT OF TUTORIALS!!! Tracing and being heavily inspired are two very very different things!!!
Tracing can be a good thing. When tracing, don't post it or claim it as your own. Tracing can help you learn the way the body moves, help you with proportions or learn how to draw a character. Of course don't claim the art as your own, that's stealing and extremely bad.
personally, i think that tracing is absolutely fine, as long as it is USED FOR LEARNING PURPOSES. i dont recommend just flat out tracing lineart, but rather, tracing shapes, skeletons, muscles, anatomy, etc - as long as you dont post these anywhere and use them for your own progress and learning, i think its a great way to learn :)
As someone who is just getting back into drawing, I am working on faces right now. I can safely say that I only reference stuff, as in trying to get a general idea of how to draw perspectives and then applying my own fursona to it. If I do anything with regard to artwork that isn't mine it is to study and figure out how something should be and then trying to draw my sona with my new understanding. I only reference to understand the perspective as that seems to be the thing I really struggle with.
3:41 Wait, that's not quite right, if you look at a bunch of way other people draw is and replicating is actually a _really_ good way to learn some of the basics and develop a style. The real trick is to coping a crap ton of different things. I'm not refering to referencing per se, but nothing is unique. Lot's of my style's is based on Silverfox5213, TysonTan, and Rick Griffen. If you look at my stuff, (most of the really good examples are in a drawing notebook hidden away somewhere near me), you can see a lot style simularities to these three people plus a year or two of trial and error of making things look nice, work nicely with 3D, and pulling style choices from even more artists better than me. It's _not_ an unfair way to know what work and what does, it's just easy way to mess up if don't make any effort to distigushish yourself. But I do agree that tracing whole things is really bad, but occasionally tracing small parts is okay. I might be taking from too much a techincal standpoint, since with CG art, reinventing the wheel is hard as hell.
I love your personality so much ^^ the music fits your character great. I suck at drawing but I have a thing for coloring stuff, my art teacher was fed up till she saw that I could color a pattern printout that looked like stained glass. Wish I could do more...have a Vaptastic day anyway.
I appreciate this one because while I've never even thought of stealing someone's work I think things like tracing or copying just dont ping in some people's head as a form of stealing. I love the furry community because for the most part people are very respectful of artists.
Take this from a Amino Furry artist- Do not trace at all! Even tracing to learn is bad, because you're learning to draw someone's art style. I've became a pretty decent artist, and I've never traced any online pictures. Also, as Pocari said.. *Do not use any art without permission* I've seen a lot of people on Amino get banned for using uncredited art. Not just in the Furry amino too. Please ask the artist if you can use the picture first and if they say yes, credit them! I'm done ranting now haha-
The only time I'll trace over an image is if I'm making a new fursona. I'll trace over it and draw on it, give it to an artist to use then once I get the artists image I scrap the traced one completely. It's just a starter and that's it xD
I actually recently tried to sell my personal suit on Etsy (with the intention of switching out the eyes and tongue so it was no longer my fursona) for some extra money as work cut my hours the last few weeks. Anyway, other than the eyes and tongue, my fursona has a very generic face and I had two people tell me I stole their fursona. I had to send them full body art work of my sona to prove that I didn't steal their character. It was mildly ridiculous as my sona essentially just has a generic fox face meaning it's not unlikely my face would match someone else's (his body is not generic in the least though and that's how I proved that I didn't steal someone's sona)
I accidentally stole art when I was younger bc I didn't know the etiquette. I do feel bad now that I'm older and drawing my own art, but I was younger and dumb.
i find this a very good video, for furries and non furries alike. I am in college for concept art and I saw these things going on in a our semi professional location. Like a surprising amount! Even in portfolios for applications! It is a huge pet peeve of mine. thanks for shedding some very well worded and carefully prepared for information for viewers! Being informed is the best way to avoid pain not only for yourself but others as well.
Not too long ago, I had drawn an emotion chart of a character that belongs to me. Then about two weeks later, my 8 year old cousin came to me with a piece of paper that had some doggo heads on it, and she told me it was a character that she made, after a little bit of inspection I soon realized that she had traced my art, and claimed that she had drawn it!! Not only that the dog that was on it was the same breed and colors of my German Shepard, Scout! After I had explained to her what she did wrong I drew her a ref sheet that she could do what ever with as long as she didn't say she drew it, but I did allow her to make copies of that one ref sheet so she can use it to make as many characters as she wanted! I'm honestly just glad she didn't post the traced art on Amino and get hate or get blocked MY the Amino team.
I can say that many new members have made the mistake of searching for "Fursonas" online. most of the the time it is without ill intent, and it is wrong. But I pray that they learn overtime. I did this exact same thing about 8 years ago when I finally joined. I'm glad a friend of mine pointed it out to me as well. There is more than one reason that I respect artists so much today. I'm more than willing to pay them to draw my characters. I like to see how they see my creations, not how someone else see's their own and take it. Have a blessed day my fellow fluffs! Thank you so much Pocari for the amazing advice and content. Keep spreading smiles and God bless!
Some more tips: if you referenced a photo, say it's referenced! If you are posting it on any social media make sure you have the original owner's permission. You should link back to their art too! Im on a social media and like 60% of the furs on there use stolen art from Deviantart and OH MY GOODNESS. Basically everyday we deal with another case of stealing on that app. Pocari I agree with you, if there is one vid every artist should watch it should be this one. Tip 2: if you are referencing a piece check the copyright on it, if its copyrighted don't reference it! And if you're on apps like furry amino post your own work! The rest of the fandom would love to see it!
@Emily Colbert it not. From someone that traced a few years back i can tell you it helped me alot with my art. There also a lot of artist that use to trace when they where younger and became amazing at art. The problem it when you post it and say " i drew this ahahahshajh "
@@gontathegentleman9833 idk, I just never traced when I was younger and I find my art pretty okay today. I post it on my other channel, DaggerFloofy Raptor. I just think that it’s better to reference and take little bits of the styles you like and mush them into your own and it’s more helpful in the long run. But, everyone has their opinion and side of the story so there isn’t anything I can do about that. Have a good day!
@@gontathegentleman9833 omg, finally someone who is FRIGGEN RESPECTFUL and didn’t curse their entire edgy teenage hood at me because I had an opinion ;-; good day lol!
My character Plastic was inspired by 2d from Gorillaz, luckily he's not an animal, most of my characters aren't based off of other people's fursonas but rather concepts
Nice and great video this bottle ep is awesome and helpful keep it up! Also art theft is huge in the fandom and is not cool they need to be creative and not steal.
If I heavily reference ( or copy for better understanding of anatomy) I don't post it. But I don't post often because I'm still learning how to digital draw with different techniques. I'm still making a style for myself and that is also why I am not posting much.
So, Ive had trouble in the past with drawing body bases and this one main artist makes these amazing female body bases and it said COPY ALLOWED is that okay to uses that base???
I have recently started making art and i suck at it and the only "copying" I do is how to draw pictures I free hand draw step by step picturing on how to draw anthro to get a feel for it and will hopefully be able to break away and make art without any help. Is that okay Pocariroo please answer to let me known
Is a sort of selective breeding of styles okay? If you take certain parts of a style you like but discard the parts you don't like, and then mixing that into a style then doing that process on different styles, is that okay?
would it be bad to reference proportions and pose? for example, if i saw a picture of a wolf furry doing a peace sign, would it be ok to draw, lets say, a lion in the exact pose from the same angle?
Both of these have happened to me and i have no idea what to do about them: 1. A person comes to me saying I've copied one of their characters but the only thing that's similar is the fact that there's a ball on the character's tail and some of the anatomy and they go huge rage hissy fit, block me, send white knights, and then proceed to write a huge journal explanation on why they don't care if characters are similar to theirs almost directly after the incident. Causing me to leave and make a new account and even change my style entirely so I would't be chased down :^) 2. A person comes to me saying a character of mine is similar to theirs but the time stamp on my character's submission was posted before their character's original piece. And yet they insist that I've copied them when I can't time travel and see their future character. [kinda makes me wonder if they made the drawing JUST to attack me?? haha]
Admittedly, I use to trace things when I was a lot younger (like back when I was 12-15 years of age). Never have I posted the images claiming that I've drawn them. As of late I've completely stopped tracing and do more anatomically structured drawings but I still retain the style of the characters I use to trace. Rarely have I ever actually copied someone elses art (if it did happen I'm completely unaware of it). However, as of late I haven't drawn much cause I've been suffering from a creative slump for the past couple months... it's kind of making me sad 😿
Just going to admit, I litterally used the top right picture of Falvi (I hope that’s right)’s art on Discord when I met my best (and now future bf) Friend, and I said all the time, I didn’t make it...and told them that I found it on Google...but I have totally changed and I believe have a ref sheet I colored in (sent a colorable ref sheet by a friend). I use that now, and even was able to have art made by a good friend...so that is one question...what happens if someone is caught ‘profile picture stealing’ but before they are caught, they have been realized to have an original ‘sona picture’?
As an artist who has never traced I can say that I personally have no problem with tracing as long as its purely for educational purposes. Tracing can help someone understand how the traced object works. If one was to post it though they would need to 1) get the permission of the original artist and credit them and 2) disclose that it's a traced image. Taht's my two cents on that. Referencing or "studying" a reference is a better way to grasp it and understand it but tracing can sometimes help too.
It really ticks me off when Artist A has a character with a *very* simple 3-color pallet design, Artist B creates a character of different species but close similarities in color and design, then Artist A making a giant fuss about it where everyone can see every blame and claim. Especially when the color pallet and design reflects off of something you'd see on a real animal.
guess i need to start looking up horse anatomy if i want to be able to draw my dutchie by myself and not trace ...pocari this vid helped me a lot because i am younger ...
Hello, I recently begin to draw, I saw a tutorial about how to make a simple fox head. I followed the basic shape of the head and then added my style and differences like hair and that stuff. Is that copying? Also I used nick wilde from zootopia as a "base" (I traced some guide lines over his head and then begin to draw my character over the picture since im drawing them on my phone) since one of the parts that I struggled to make was the muzzle of my character since the pose he was making was kinda difficult to achieve (for me since im not good yet) and also used his shoulders and the position of the eyes as a reference to make mine ones does this fall under copying or tracing? Ps: Im only using this pictures as profile photos on social media im not uploading them to sites like devianArt or furaffinity.
I made a fursona, that looks very similar to an existing "cartoon" character, I wanted him to be the same species in a similar art style, as well as having tinted sunglasses (Which are different in color and lens shape) and a comically long tail. I love his design, and the idea was for it to be inspired from different things that inspired me, I just hope that it's unique enough for it not to be a clone.
What if someone wanted to have a fursuit made in order to cosplay as someone else's drawn character and they put a badge or something on it that tells who the design belongs to, don't change the design or name of the character, and that it is a cosplay? Theoretically would it be okay then if a fursuiter did that?
So, say I'm not happy with the way I draw characters front facing and find another piece of work with a lovely style anatomy wise for front facing characters. I decide to reference this when I draw a badge commission. it doesn't look like the art I referenced whatsoever, it just has similar anatomy. What would this be considered?
There was a time when someone had a character that looked identical to mind. They contacted me about it and I just told them not to worry about it because I was going to make some changes to my character because she needed an update anyways. I made some changes and she approved and we both went about our way
Can anyone say if this is copying: When I tried to create some pixel art I looked at my profile pic ( it is not pixel art ) and tried to replicate the shape of the head. But JUST THE SHAPE of it. Does that count as copying?
Hay so what if you were taught how to draw by another artist and your style is similar what would you call that they wouldn't be the same but you could still sort of see some things like maybe how you do the shading or the eyes are similar does that have a name?
If I a RUclips I like draws a picture for their RUclips channel and I redraw it in my style as fanmail is that copying and can I post it online if I give credit

Ruby Dragon That's only if you plan to make edits to a photo in photoshop,or are using it possibly for any purpose that would make you money.

Also, I don't see a problem with tracing, so long as you don't post it and are only using it to learn.
2nd Lt. Cohiba Fox #Ashens
Pocari Bottle Episode, Brown Sofa Tat Edition
2nd Lt. Cohiba Fox WHERE THE HELL IS THE NEW POPSTATION WATCH
KainetheWolf I feel they'll be coming soon now that the Nintendo switch is out, the Chinese never disappoint.
2nd Lt. Cohiba Fox they never disappoint( tries to type a period but it turns into a comma and the screen cracks) Ohhh ...REALLY
ah ive had a friend accuse me of "steeling" there character when they had it for a week and i had mine for 3-4 year's
Oh my god I hate when that happens.
'Stealing'
my "freind" literally just looks on google for art and draws the exact same thing and says its her art I'm no longer her friend
coolcattaco coolcatnacho god I have friend that does that to -.-
Note Block Fur right! I have a friend like that too, I love them and they're a super sweet person but I don't think they understand? Like some artists rely financially on their artwork!
my best friend used to do that but now she doesn't anymore
my little sister does that but she doesn't post it anywhere. She doesn't know its bad. She's 7.
I take down pictures for references which is also how I understand their style and artstyle and I slowly drew the base and then drew the baselines and so on it goes
sometimes I have trouble with eyes so I look up pictures. is that ok? I don't do it exactly but it will be kinda close
costumes by shibü photo referencing is fine. It's when you're referencing off an artwork that you have to be careful.
That referencing it ok
I think it should be fine but to stay safe I would use multiple references and tbh it also helps to do more than one reference I think
finally I know who that artist is I see her/or/his art EVERYWHERE!!!!!
and I have never been able to find the artist thank pocari
I once discovered a person who traced art. She didn't even make it look real, she took the actual image and just added a completely differnet art style over it, so the image doesn't even look equal, and she claimed she made it all by herself. The most ironic thing about it is she told people not to trace or steal images as it was bad.
I use ref sheets quite often, but when I draw something with one, I adjust it to my own style. I only use them for faces, hair and anatomy. Occasionally I'll use colour pallettes as well, especially for a challenge to make an oc out of one.
I really love the Bottle episodes, they're a big help.
p.s. Your the best :)
See if you can find a friend of theirs who can ask them about it for you
Yeah she straight blocked me and I don't know anyone who is they're friend because she blocked me
This is just me, and I might be unusually tough on people, but if somebody were to outright block me without trying to resolve their problem with me, I'd be inclined let them stew in their own stubbornness. However, you could try contacting them a different way, such as through another account or website, then explain to them that you are willing to resolve the issue, and see where it goes from there. If they ignore you again, the problem rests in their own hands, and they can deal with it when they decide to humble themselves.
Volt Siano yeah I will try taking to them
Lujan AlLuhaidan just a question did you draw your profile because it is adorable
I died when Tracer showed up when you said "Tracing"
I remember going through some of these issues when I had Link made. I went and had the artist retry and now I'm sooo happy!
i actually encountered Accidentally desame fursona. almost XD His name is Physics. we are both Yellow with white and skyblue, but the difference is he have black spots on his body, and brown hair :3
and now we call ourselves twins XD
Awww that's nice that you reacted to it nicely. I know some fursuiters which are twins.
twitter.com/SnoFlu and twitter.com/SnowSpottycats (both are my friends)
Burumun and Elecami
FleurDiLis from Belgium (my ex-friend) and one girl
The list could go on...
Even my friend's fursona and one of my OC's, are similar in the way they are black kitties with a straight bangs and long hair.
By the way there is probably one Japanese guy who looks similar to you. Don't know who though... Give him a hug!
thats adorable.
Here when the comments were still just at 28!
(btw great job on the vid Pocari!!)
actually your learning while tracing. If you trace a lot, then you learn your own style and it helps you understand how to do something. But don't post it online!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*You're
If I ever try to use someone else's art as a reference, I always ask for permission and, if they say yes, I say that I referenced their art.
These are the reasons why I never post ANY art I make it feels like, even though I draw from scratch and very rarely use any sort of reference (most of which are just textures and shading examples :ll), I'll somehow get in trouble cause it's similar to someone else's art =~=
It's a scary place, the art community :c
HHHHHNNNNNNGGGGH YOUR FURSUIT IS CUTE AND JIGGLY I COULD DIEEEE AAAAA ❤❤❤
Anyway, great video, Pocari! I myself have traced and stolen art back on my early years in the fandom, but I've learnt how damaging this is to both artists *and* other furs, and now I do everything I can to educate younger furs on the subject :)
THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT VIDEO
Uhm
I've traced art when i was younger.
And i have created my own style and learned things well
So like
Yeah
Uhm
Dont hurt me
I never put the traces up anywhere i think
Comic The Wolf same here, I think 90% of furries have stolen/traced, etc. without realizing in their early fandom years
That's great! Atleast you found your art style!
I love your bottle episodes so much. Keep up the good work :)
Tracing can be a good thing. When tracing, don't post it or claim it as your own. Tracing can help you learn the way the body moves, help you with proportions or learn how to draw a character. Of course don't claim the art as your own, that's stealing and extremely bad.
S C A N D A L O U S C O U C H
personally, i think that tracing is absolutely fine, as long as it is USED FOR LEARNING PURPOSES. i dont recommend just flat out tracing lineart, but rather, tracing shapes, skeletons, muscles, anatomy, etc - as long as you dont post these anywhere and use them for your own progress and learning, i think its a great way to learn :)
Excellent job on this educational video
I've spent three years drawing and I still I'm not perfect. I'm learning.
"OMG THAT PERSON IS A RED FOX! HE STOLE FROM THAT OTHER PERSON WHO IS ALSO JUST A REGULAR RED FOX" lol
*Do not use any art without permission*
I've seen a lot of people on Amino get banned for using uncredited art.
The rest of the fandom would love to see it!
tracing isnt bad if your just tryin to learn , its bad if you post or claim
@Emily Colbert Exactly.
@@daggerdraws3551 have a good day to. Like you said it an opinion and i can respect that
@@gontathegentleman9833 omg, finally someone who is FRIGGEN RESPECTFUL and didn’t curse their entire edgy teenage hood at me because I had an opinion ;-; good day lol!
As an artist of 20 years, i must say, wheres the fun in tracing? Not only that, your picking up on whatever problems that artist has.
0:47 does I still count if you draw is and hang it up in you're room? Because I did that. -IT ISN'T MINE-
Hey what about if people trace it but never show it to anyone, or like public? My sister did this but only showed me.
Hello! Is it OK to use the little flame thing on your snout and that's it? I won't use anything else.
What is we traced the cut outs of those things I dont know or remember what there called but what if we used that to learn?
My character Plastic was inspired by 2d from Gorillaz, luckily he's not an animal, most of my characters aren't based off of other people's fursonas but rather concepts
thanks! I didn't even know that tracing a picture of you (with my kangaroo fursona) as my profile was considered bad... I'll try to change it soon! ❤❤
So, Ive had trouble in the past with drawing body bases and this one main artist makes these amazing female body bases and it said COPY ALLOWED is that okay to uses that base???
so can a fursona be in any stile, (like simple cartoony, anime, old cartoony, realistic) or dose it have to meet specific requirements.
I can't stop looking at that “Brush Damnit!” drawing.
Hey! NOTIFICATION SQUAD WHERE YOU AT!!!
I at LEAST made it to 3rd place!!! 🥉🥉🥉
KlopLeFab!!! HERE!!!
KlopLeFab!!! here!!
KlopLeFab!!! I'm late.
I'm in my house _>wo_
I have recently started making art and i suck at it and the only "copying" I do is how to draw pictures I free hand draw step by step picturing on how to draw anthro to get a feel for it and will hopefully be able to break away and make art without any help. Is that okay Pocariroo please answer to let me known
Is a sort of selective breeding of styles okay? If you take certain parts of a style you like but discard the parts you don't like, and then mixing that into a style then doing that process on different styles, is that okay?
On the subject of tracing, how do you feel about bases?
would it be bad to reference proportions and pose? for example, if i saw a picture of a wolf furry doing a peace sign, would it be ok to draw, lets say, a lion in the exact pose from the same angle?
Is it ok to trace the anatomy of something? Like if I find a picture of an animal and mark where the joints and bones are?
Both of these have happened to me and i have no idea what to do about them:
1. Causing me to leave and make a new account and even change my style entirely so I would't be chased down :^)
I love the look of your OC/Fursona/Fursuit
Thank you!!! I have people heavily referencing my art, and I do traditional art!!
0:34 Holding one palm up to signify "5" doesn't work if you only have four fingers.
It really ticks me off when Artist A has a character with a *very* simple 3-color pallet design, Artist B creates a character of different species but close similarities in color and design, then Artist A making a giant fuss about it where everyone can see every blame and claim. Especially when the color pallet and design reflects off of something you'd see on a real animal.
guess i need to start looking up horse anatomy if i want to be able to draw my dutchie by myself and not trace ...pocari this vid helped me a lot because i am younger ...
is it copying if i find the color scheme of someone elses work cool and i make my own lineart and use some of the colors like that?
I love your background ^^ especially the photo on the far left with the light blue background. Who drew that, if you don't mind me asking? :)
Is it okay to use it as a background for small devices like an iphone, or is it still stealing?
this might seem stupid but what about using bases??????
How was Cyclone Debbie?
in the middle of this I was like yo I should draw pocari so now I'm gonna draw pocari
Actually tracing something on to paper (not posting it obviously) and then drawing it facing the other way is a really good way to learn anatomy
What if you buy a Fursuit on google or Amazon?
Imaging porcoi roo busting down your door with an airhorn saying
Oooohhhhh we got a tracer
So, say I'm not happy with the way I draw characters front facing and find another piece of work with a lovely style anatomy wise for front facing characters. I decide to reference this when I draw a badge commission. it doesn't look like the art I referenced whatsoever, it just has similar anatomy. What would this be considered?
Probably just referencing, if you're not tracing and just looking at the anatomy that's fine.
Also if you're not deliberately copying the pose then it's just referencing.
There was a time when someone had a character that looked identical to mind. They contacted me about it and I just told them not to worry about it because I was going to make some changes to my character because she needed an update anyways. I made some changes and she approved and we both went about our way
it is oki when I use someones art as a reference? I only use it as a help for my sketching
Can anyone say if this is copying:
When I tried to create some pixel art I looked at my profile pic ( it is not pixel art ) and tried to replicate the shape of the head. But JUST THE SHAPE of it. Does that count as copying?
If you take an artwork and try to redraw it for practice is that considered tracing?
I was drawing a furry drawling while looking at a picture or my friend cuz he is suspended.... is that stealing..?
Hay so what if you were taught how to draw by another artist and your style is similar what would you call that they wouldn't be the same but you could still sort of see some things like maybe how you do the shading or the eyes are similar does that have a name?
If I a RUclips I like draws a picture for their RUclips channel and I redraw it in my style as fanmail is that copying and can I post it online if I give credit
Wait.. What about using free to use reference sheets?
I have a question. Is you draw something that looks similar to another drawing and someone accuses you, what can you do?
